• Devin Williams (back) to throw bullpen Saturday
Devin Williams (back) is scheduled to throw another bullpen session on Saturday.

Advice: The 29-year-old hurler felt great after his first bullpen session, so he’ll continue to ramp up as long as he’s feeling good. He’s also tentatively scheduled to throw his first live batting practice on July 9, assuming that he doesn’t suffer any setbacks along the way. If things go according to plan, he could be ready to return to the Brewers’ bullpen immediately following the All-Star break. Rotoworld Today, 3:22 pm

  • Padres transfer Joe Musgrove to 60-day IL
Padres transferred RHP Joe Musgrove to the 60-day injured list.

Advice: Nothing has changed in the prognosis for the 31-year-old hurler, this was done as a procedural move to free up a spot on the team’s 40-man roster for Austin Davis to join the bullpen on Friday. Musgrove continues to recover from a bone spur in his right elbow and has been throwing off of flat ground in recent days. Rotoworld Today, 1:15 pm
  • Moved to 60-day IL
Musgrove (elbow) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Friday.

Advice: Transferring Musgrove to the 60-day IL opens up a spot on the 40-man roster for Austin Davis, who'll join the big-league roster. Though Musgrove began playing catch Monday, he still has plenty of checkpoints to hi before being cleared and likely won't be back in action until after the All-Star break. • Another bullpen coming
Williams threw 20 pitches during a bullpen session Wednesday and is scheduled for another 20-pitch session over the weekend, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Williams utilized his full arsenal during Wednesday's session and is on track to throw off the mound again this weekend. Additionally, Williams is scheduled to throw live batting practice July 9. Regardless, he should be back with the Brewers sometime in July. Rotowire.com Today, 12:47 pm

  • Nails down 14th save
McArthur pitched a perfect ninth inning and picked up the save over the Guardians on Thursday.

Advice: McArthur entered the game with a one-run lead in the ninth and needed only eight pitches to retire the side for his 14th save of the season. The right-hander has been very reliable as of late, hurling a perfect inning in each of his last three appearances while lowering his June ERA to 2.00. On the downside, McArthur has managed just a 4:4 K:BB this month over 10 appearances (nine innings) and hasn't recorded a strikeout in either of his last two outings. Rotowire.com Today, 6:15 am
  • Earns sixth save
Kopech struck out one while not allowing a hit or a walk during the ninth inning Thursday to pick up the save against Atlanta.

Advice: A fielding error is all that prevented a 1-2-3 outing from Kopech, who collected his first save since May 15 after having blown his previous three opportunities. Kopech carries an impressive K/9 rate of 13.0, collecting 48 strikeouts over 33.1 innings. However, he's also allowed 48 batters to reach base (1.44 WHIP), including allowing 1.9 homers and 5.1 walks per nine innings. Kopech is a piece the White Sox will strongly consider selling at the trade deadline and will look for more performances like he provided Thursday to help them maximize the return they might get for him. • McArthur picks up 14th save against Royals
James McArthur tossed a scoreless ninth inning and picked up the save against the Guardians on Thursday.

Advice: The save was his 14th of the season. McArthur has a 4.41 ERA after another scoreless outing. There’s no question that he’s the Royals’ best option for saves going forward. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:36 pm
  • Michael Kopech picks up save vs. Atlanta
Michael Kopech pitched a scoreless ninth to get a save Thursday against Atlanta.

Advice: Kopech didn’t allow a hit while picking up a strikeout. That’s the sixth save of the season for the 28-year-old, and the scoreless frame lowered his ERA to a still-shaky 4.59 on the 2024 season. Kopech is a trade candidate that could be playing elsewhere, but his fantasy value would be severely limited if he’s not a closer. Rotoworld Yesterday, 4:56 pm

  • Max Scherzer to start on Friday against Orioles
Max Scherzer (thumb) will start on Friday against the Orioles.

Advice: Scherzer came out of his season debut on Sunday with some relatively minor right thumb soreness, but it sounds like he’s ready to roll for his next outing on Friday evening at Camden Yards. The 39-year-old veteran was sharp last weekend in his season debut, striking out four over five scoreless frames against the Royals. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:59 pm
