  • Picks up seventh win
    Fried improved to 7-3 on the season in Sunday's 3-1 win over the Yankees, striking out four while allowing one run on six hits and no walks over six innings.

    Advice: Fried kept the Yankees off the board until a solo run crossed in the sixth on an Anthony Volpe double. Three of the six hits Fried allowed came during the sixth, but a timely double play ended the inning and kept Fried in line for his seventh win. Fried has now turned in eight quality starts through 15 outing, and in seventh of those starts, he's gone at least six innings while allowing no more than one earned run.   • Max Fried stellar against Yankees in win
    Max Fried shut the Yankees out over six innings in a 3-1 win on Sunday. He struck out four without walking a batter.

    Advice: Fried was great in this and kept the Yankees off-balance by mixing all five of his pitches. He didn’t throw one individual offering more than 30% of the time and was adept at varying his four-seam fastball, sinker, and curveball early in counts. He’s as steady and stable as they come.   • Rangers activate Mad Max for ’24 debut on Sunday
    Rangers activated RHP Max Scherzer from the 60-day injured list.

    Advice: Scherzer will make his highly-anticipated season debut on Sunday afternoon for the defending World Series champions against the Royals at Globe Life Field. The 39-year-old veteran right-hander missed the first few months of the year recovering from offseason back surgery, and a nerve-related issue in his thumb that sprung up during his rehabilitation process. He’s no longer an elite fantasy contributor at this advanced stage of his legendary career. However, he’s likely to have flashes of occasional brilliance, and make a tangible impact for fantasy managers, even in shallow mixed leagues, when healthy. Rotoworld Sunday, 9:15 am

    The Rangers activated Scherzer (back/thumb) from the 60-day injured list ahead of his start in Sunday's series finale against the Royals.

    Advice: Scherzer will make his season debut Sunday after having his start Saturday pushed back in favor of Jon Gray. Scherzer began the season on the injured list following offseason back surgery, and his rehab assignment was delayed due to separate thumb and forearm issues. In his last rehab start June 15, Scherzer allowed three runs on four hits and two walks while striking out eight over 4.2 innings. Sunday's start should provide clarity on whether the 39-year-old right-hander will work under any restrictions in his first big-league action since Game 3 of the 2023 World Series in October.   • Stuck with loss Saturday
    Eflin (3-5) took the loss Saturday as the Rays were downed 4-3 by the Pirates, giving up four runs on five hits and a walk over seven innings. He struck out six.

    Advice: Pittsburgh stung the right-hander for a run in the first inning and three more in the third, and while Eflin settled in after that, the Tampa Bay offense wasn't able to put together a comeback. Eflin's last quality start came May 7, and in six outings since then, he's stumbled to a 4.86 ERA despite a 1.17 WHIP and 24:2 K:BB in 33.1 innings.   • Goes eight scoreless frames again
    Gilbert (5-4) earned the win over Miami on Saturday, allowing four hits and one walk while striking out six batters over eight scoreless innings.

    Advice: Gilbert's superb stat line was just a tad less impressive than in his previous outing, when he allowed two hits and struck out nine over eight scoreless frames against Texas. The right-hander has been on a roll throughout June -- he's tossed four quality starts in four outings this month while posting a 1.21 ERA over 29.2 innings.   • Records final outs in win
    Kopech allowed one hit and walked one while striking out two across a scoreless ninth inning Saturday against the Tigers.

    Advice: Kopech entered the game with a four-run lead and allowed consecutive batters to reach base with two outs. He managed to escape to turn in his second consecutive scoreless appearance, though he's still allowed eight earned runs across his last 8.1 frames.   • Logan Gilbert hurls eight scoreless in victory
    Logan Gilbert allowed four hits over eight scoreless in a 9-0 win for the Mariners on Saturday.

    Advice: Gilbert issued just one walk while striking out six, and he needed just 92 pitches to get through the Miami lineup. The 27-year-old has not allowed a run over his last two outings, and he’s lowered his ERA to 2.71 thanks to those dominant results. The Mariners have arguably the best rotation in baseball, but Gilbert just might be the ace of that staff right now. He’s scheduled to face the Twins at home next weekend.   • Eflin goes seven, allows four in loss to Pirates
    Zach Eflin allowed four runs in seven innings and got the loss against the Pirates on Saturday.



    Advice: Eflin gave up five hits, walked one and struck out six. This was the longest of Eflin’s four starts since coming off the injured list and his second start in a row with at least six strikeouts. His ERA on the season is now 4.20. It’s safe to say Eflin hasn’t been able to repeat his breakout season last year when he won 16 games with a 3.50 ERA. The 30-year-old right-hander is set to face the Nationals at home next weekend.
