• Zach Eflin starting on Friday against Yankees
Zach Eflin will start Friday’s pivotal series opener against the Yankees.

Advice: Eflin closed out the first half with strong outings against the Yankees and Nationals with a clunker against the Royals sandwiched in between. It’ll be Taj Bradley, Shane Baz and Zack Littell taking the ball for the rest of Tampa Bay’s four-game set against the Yankees before Ryan Pepiot draws the starting assignment for Tuesday’s series opener against the Blue Jays. • Astros tab Hunter Brown to start second half
Hunter Brown will start Friday’s second-half series opener against the division-rival Mariners.

Advice: It appeared almost certain that Brown would be demoted after a brutal nine-start stretch to open the year, but he managed to turn things around to finish the first half with an impressive 2.36 ERA over his final 10 outings since May 22. It’ll be Framber Valdez and Ronel Blanco to round out the first series of the second half for Houston on the road at T-Mobile Park. Rotoworld Today, 1:46 pm
  • Michael Harris II likely back in August
The Athletic’s David O’Brien reported that Michael Harris II (hamstring) is “likely returning by early August.”

Advice: The 23-year-old was diagnosed with a Grade 2 left hamstring strain on June 15th and is still working his way through baseball activities. Given the length of his absence, he will likely require a rehab assignment as well, which means it might be at least three weeks before Harris returns to the Braves lineup, in the best-case scenario. • Unlikely to return until August
Harris (hamstring) is still at least two or three weeks away from returning from the 10-day injured list, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.

Advice: The center fielder has yet to begin a rehab assignment as he recovers from a hamstring strain that's sidelined him since June 14. Harris was slashing a disappointing .250/.295/.358 prior to the injury, and in his absence, Jarred Kelenic has seized firm hold of the leadoff job. When Harris gets activated from the IL, expect him to hit in the bottom half of the order. Rotowire.com Today, 7:49 am

  • Not playing in All-Star Game
Correa (heel) was removed Monday from the American League All-Star Game roster and was replaced by the Rangers' Corey Seager, the Associated Press reports.

Advice: Though Correa is still expected to attend All-Star festivities in Arlington, Texas this week, his removal from the roster comes as little surprise after he missed the Twins' final two games before the break due to plantar fasciitis in his right heel. Dan Hayes of The Athletic relays that Correa's latest case of plantar fasciitis isn't as severe as his bout with the injury to his left foot during 2023 season, but it's not yet clear whether Correa will be back in action when the Twins return to action Saturday versus the Brewers. • Strong start spoiled
Gilbert tossed seven scoreless innings Sunday against the Angels, allowing just two hits and no walks while striking out nine. He did not factor into the decision.

Advice: Gilbert was magnificent once again and had another strong start wasted by the bullpen. Gilbert exited with a 2-0 lead that vanished in the eighth inning after two walks and a three-run homer by Jo Adell put the Angels in front for good. Sunday was the fifth time this season that Gilbert did not allow a run in a start and his nine strikeouts tied a season high. The 27-year-old will head into the break with a 2.79 ERA, 0.87 WHIP and 124:25 K:BB in 132.1 innings. Since he pitched Sunday, Gilbert will not be available to throw in Tuesday's All-Star Game. • Solid in abbreviated start
Scherzer didn't factor into the decision Sunday against Houston, allowing one run on four hits and one walk with six strikeouts across four innings.

Advice: Scherzer didn't complete five innings for the first time since being activated from the injured list June 23 and threw only 71 pitches after tossing 95 pitches in his previous start. Though he didn't go deep into the contest, Scherzer was very effective, with the lone run against him coming in the third on a solo home run by Jake Meyers. The 39-year-old has logged a 2.96 ERA and a 23:4 K:BB across 27.1 innings heading into the All-Star break. Rotowire.com Sunday, 9:22 pm

  • Dazzles in first rehab outing
Williams (back) struck out all three batters he faced in a perfect inning during his rehab appearance Sunday with High-A Wisconsin.

Advice: Williams has been on the shelf all season while recovering from a pair of stress fractures in his back, but he didn't exhibit any signs of rust in his first game action of 2024. He needed just 14 pitches to strike out the side and generated four swings-and-misses during his brief time on the mound. The Brewers may have Williams shift his rehab assignment to Double-A Biloxi or Triple-A Nashville for a tougher test following the All-Star break, but the right-hander may not require too many more tune-up outings in the minors if he continues to look as sharp as he did Sunday. Williams should eventually supplant Trevor Megill as the Brewers' preferred option to close games once he's reinstated from the 60-day injured list. Rotowire.com Sunday, 8:31 pm

  • Logan Gilbert goes seven scoreless in no-decision
Logan Gilbert shut out the Angels for seven innings, striking out nine, in a no-decision Sunday.

Advice: Gilbert allowed just two hits before leaving with a 2-0 lead. Unfortunately, it disappeared immediately in the eighth, as Ryne Stanek hurt himself on a leadoff walk and Austin Voth went on to give up a three-run homer to take a loss. It’s the fifth time this season that Gilbert has gone without allowing a run. He’s a worthy All-Star as he finishes the first half with a 2.79 ERA, but he won’t get to pitch in the game after working today. Rotoworld Sunday, 5:49 pm
