    • Austin Riley (side) out for 12th consecutive game
Austin Riley (side) remains out of the lineup for Saturday’s showdown against the Pirates.

Advice: Yikes. Riley has progressed to taking batting practice without any issues, but it appears the Braves don’t want to take any chances here. Atlanta manager Brian Snitker told reports Friday that he doesn’t expect Riley back until Monday’s series opener against the Nationals. The 27-year-old fantasy star hasn’t played since May 12 and will miss his 12th consecutive contest on Saturday afternoon at PNC Park. It’ll be Zack Short drawing another start at the hot corner in his absence. Rotoworld Today, 10:14 am

    • Sitting as expected
Riley (side) isn't in Atlanta's lineup for Saturday's game against the Pirates.

Advice: Manager Brian Snitker said Friday that Riley is likely to sit out until Atlanta begins its series against the Nationals on Monday, so the third baseman's absence Saturday isn't too surprising. Zack Short will continue starting at third base while Riley misses his 12th consecutive game. Rotowire.com Today, 10:10 am

    • MRI shows healing
Kelly (shoulder) underwent an MRI earlier this week, and it showed significant healing, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The results are encouraging, but the team will have multiple doctors review the images to be sure. Kelly was placed on the 15-day injured list April 23, two days after being scratched from a start, and then he was transferred to the 60-day IL on May 2. Rotowire.com Today, 4:27 am

    • Cristopher Sánchez limits Rockies to one run
Cristopher Sánchez held the Rockies to one run in 5 1/3 innings in a no-decision Friday.

Advice: Sánchez’s velocity has been great in his last two starts, though it didn’t lead to strikeouts tonight (two) at Coors Field like it did last time (eight) against the Nationals. Sánchez lowered his ERA to 3.15, but he remained stuck on two wins. Rotoworld Yesterday, 11:49 pm
    • Craig Kimbrel earns save after near-miss homer
Craig KImbrel picked up his 11th save with a perfect ninth against the White Sox on Friday.

Advice: Sort of perfect anyway, given that it took Colton Cowser robbing Tommy Pham of a homer to end the game. Still, even if that ball had managed to get over Cowser’s glove in center, Kimbrel did have another run to play with. It goes as Kimbrel’s sixth straight hitless and walkless appearance. • William Conteras goes 2-for-4, hits two-run homer
William Contreras went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and a walk as the Brewers bested the Red Sox 7-2 on Friday.

Advice: Contreras has been the NL’s third-best player to date — and top non-Dodger — while batting .337/.412/.538. If this keeps up, he ought to be treated better in the MVP balloting this time around. There was an argument for him as the NL’s fifth-best player last year, but he wound up 11th in the MVP balloting then. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:47 pm
    • Bailey Ober earns fifth victory for Twins
Bailey Ober threw five innings of two-run ball for the win as the Twins edged the Rangers 3-2 on Friday.

Advice: Marcus Semien singled and Corey Seager homered to start the top of the first, but those proved to be the only runs of the night for Texas. Ober wasn’t as efficient as usual in walking three and throwing 99 pitches in five innings tonight, but he got the job done. He’s 5-2 with a 4.33 ERA. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:06 pm

    • Earns victory over Rangers
Ober (5-2) allowed two runs on four hits and three walks over five innings Friday, striking out five and earning a win over Texas.

Advice: Ober coughed up a two-run shot to Corey Seager in the first inning but settled in for a solid outing after that. Despite striking out just five batters, Ober forced a season-high 16 whiffs, including seven with his changeup. He's generated at least 12 swinging strikes in six of his last seven starts. He owns a 4.33 ERA through 10 starts and a 3.02 ERA over his last nine. Ober's next outing is expected to come at home against the Royals. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:33 pm

    • Homers in win
Burger went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Friday's 3-0 win over the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Burger has gone 8-for-63 (.127) over 16 games since he returned from an oblique injury, with Friday's effort being his second multi-hit game in that span. He's yet to find a rhythm at the plate, and he was slumping just before the injury too. Burger is slashing .175/.211/.300 with four homers, 17 RBI, 11 runs scored and three doubles over 128 plate appearances this season, though he remains in a starting role for a Marlins team that has no plans to contend in 2024.
