    • Zach Eflin surrenders four runs against Blue Jays
Zach Eflin allowed four runs with three strikeouts over six innings in a no-decision against the Blue Jays on Saturday.

Advice: Eflin had worked through three scoreless innings before the Blue Jays brought a run across to score on three hits in the fourth. Four consecutive hits to start the fifth inning would bring three more runs in for Toronto. Eflin would return for one more inning, ending his day after six with three strikeouts. The 30-year-old right-hander will take a 4.12 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, and a 44/4 K/BB ratio across 59 innings into a start against the Royals in Tampa Bay on Friday. Rotoworld Today, 2:57 pm

    • Getting breather Saturday
Gurriel isn't in the Diamondbacks' lineup for Saturday's game versus Detroit.

Advice: Gurriel has gone just 1-for-18 with nine strikeouts across his past five games, so the D-backs will give him a day to regroup Saturday. Jake McCarthy, Corbin Carroll and Pavin Smith will start across the outfield while Gurriel rests. Rotowire.com Today, 1:07 pm
    • Missing fifth straight
Riley (side) isn't in Atlanta's lineup for Saturday's game versus San Diego.

Advice: Riley said Saturday that he is feeling better, per Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, but he has yet to resume swinging a bat. The 27-year-old infielder also noted that the team has not talked with him about a potential move to the injured list; however, Riley wouldn't say that he would be back in time for the start of Atlanta's upcoming series with the Cubs on Tuesday. Zack Short, who will start at third base and bat seventh Saturday, has served as Atlanta's third baseman since Riley went down and should continue to do so until the slugger recovers. • Austin Riley not in Saturday’s lineup vs. Padres
Austin Riley (side) remains out of the lineup for Saturday’s tilt against the Padres.

Advice: Riley will miss his fifth straight contest due to left side inflammation. There’s a possibility he’ll be ready to go at some point later this weekend, but Atlanta clearly doesn’t want to take any chances by rushing him back too quickly. It’ll be Zack Short drawing another start at the hot corner in his ongoing absence. Rotoworld Today, 12:39 pm

    • Out again Saturday
Hoerner (hamstring) isn't in the Cubs' lineup for Saturday's game against the Pirates.

Advice: Saturday marks the fifth game in a row that Hoerner has missed thanks to his sore left hamstring. The Cubs have been hopeful that the infielder would be able to avoid the IL, but manager Craig Counsell said Friday that Hoerner may need to spend time on the injured list if his hamstring continues to bother him. Nick Madrigal and Miles Mastrobuoni will once again serve as the Cubs' middle infielders Saturday. Rotowire.com Today, 9:56 am

    • Deployed in eighth inning Friday
Suarez earned a hold against Atlanta on Friday, allowing two hits and striking out two batters over one inning.

Advice: Suarez has been one of the best closers in baseball this season with 12 saves (in 12 chances) and a 0.47 ERA, so his usage in the eighth inning against Atlanta was not a demotion. Rather, the right-hander was called upon to face the heart of Atlanta's formidable lineup, and though he gave up singles to Marcell Ozuna and Chadwick Tromp, Suarez managed to emerge from the outing with his 16-game scoreless streak intact. The 33-year-old should see most of his work in the ninth inning going forward, though Friday's usage is an indication that manager Mike Shildt won't hesitate to use Suarez in the highest-leverage situations prior to the ninth if the situation calls for it. • Nico Hoerner (hamstring) not in Saturday’s lineup
Nico Hoerner (hamstring) remains absent from the lineup for Saturday’s showdown against the Pirates.

Advice: There’s been zero indication that Hoerner will wind up requiring a trip to the injured list, but he’s out of Chicago’s lineup for the fifth straight game on Saturday afternoon due to ongoing left hamstring tightness. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day, but there’s a possibility the Cubs will have to send him to the injured list if he’s unable to return this weekend. Rotoworld Today, 8:38 am

    • Posts three hits Friday
Arenado went 3-for-5 with one RBI in Friday's 10-6 win over the Red Sox.

Advice: Arenado had gone 5-for-38 with no multi-hit efforts and a 1:10 BB:K over his previous nine contests. The third baseman hasn't stumbled as much as some of his teammates, but he's still in the midst of a down year, especially from a power standpoint. He's slashing .268/.323/.375 with three home runs, 22 RBI, 17 runs scored and nine doubles over 43 games on the year. Arenado hasn't hit fewer than 20 homers in a full-length campaign since 2014, and he's never slugged lower than .405 over a full year in his career, but he's got a lot of work to do to get back to those levels in 2024. • Robert Suarez faces heart of Braves lineup in 8th
Robert Suarez worked the eighth against the Braves on Friday and picked up his first hold by pitching a scoreless inning.

Advice: The Padres don’t usually play matchups with their closer, but they did tonight with No. 2 hitter Ozzie Albies due up to start the eighth. It all worked out perfectly; Suarez gave up a couple of hits, but he protected the two-run lead, and then Jeremiah Estrada locked things up against the bottom of the order in the ninth.
