• Mariners activate Dominic Canzone from I.L.
Mariners activated OF Dominic Canzone from the 10-day injured list.

Advice: Canzone was hitting .219/.286/.531 in 14 games before going down with a shoulder injury. He was ahead of Luke Raley on the depth chart at that point, but with Raley heating up, he might take more of a backseat for now, at least assuming that Mitch Garver is able to return to the DH spot in the coming days. If Garver lands on the IL, both Raley and Canzone could start in the outfield against righties, with Mitch Haniger DHing. That is the alignment today, as Canzone is playing left and batting seventh. • Returns from IL
The Mariners reinstated Canzone (shoulder) from the 10-day injured list Wednesday.

Advice: The Mariners weren't expected to bring Canzone back from the IL until this weekend, but he'll end up joining the club for its series finale with the Royals after he checked out fine following his third rehab game with Triple-A Tacoma on Wednesday. Prior to landing on the shelf April 15 with a sprained AC joint in his left shoulder, Canzone had taken hold of a strong-side platoon role in left field. Those duties have largely fallen to Luke Raley during his absence, and though Raley has enjoyed a hot run at the plate of late, Canzone will step into the starting lineup in his first game back with the team. He'll man left field and bat seventh Wednesday against the Royals. Rotowire.com Today, 10:24 am

  • Not in Wednesday's lineup
Merrill is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Rockies.

Advice: The Rockies are sending southpaw Austin Gomber to the hill, so Padres manager Mike Shildt decided it would be a good day to give the left-handed-hitting Merrill a breather. Jose Azocar will patrol center field Wednesday. Rotowire.com Today, 10:24 am

  • Mariners send Sam Haggerty to Triple-A
Mariners optioned INF/OF Sam Haggerty to Triple-A Tacoma.

Advice: Haggerty was 1-for-15 since being recalled on Apr. 29. His versatility makes him a fair enough 26th man, but the Mariners don’t have much need for him right now. Rotoworld Today, 10:23 am

  • Swipes second bag
Outman went 1-for-3 with a double, a walk, a run and a stolen base Tuesday in a 10-2 win against the Giants.

Advice: Batting out of the No. 9 hole, Outman reached base twice for the first time since May 4 and knocked just his second extra-base hit since April 24. It's been a struggle for the outfielder in his sophomore MLB campaign, as he's slashing a meager .155/.256/.282 with three homers, 10 RBI, two steals and a 31.6 percent strikeout rate through 117 plate appearances. He's gone 2-for-22 with 10 punchouts over eight games in May. Rotowire.com Today, 10:09 am

  • On bench against lefty
Suwinski is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Brewers.

Advice: Lefty Robert Gasser is on the bump for Milwaukee, so the lefty-hitting Suwinski will retreat to the bench for the series finale. Edward Olivares will fill in for Suwinski in right field and will bat fifth. Rotowire.com Today, 10:06 am

  • Records steal in win
Freeman went 1-for-2 with a double, a walk, two hit-by-pitches, a stolen base and one run scored in Tuesday's 7-4 win over the Rangers.

Advice: That's a hard way to get on base four times, but it worked well to set the table for the Guardians. Freeman is still not hitting all that well -- he's batting .167 over 12 games in May, dropping his season average to .193 through 37 contests. He's made up for it with a passable .307 on-base percentage and 9.2 percent walk rate. The 24-year-old has added five steals, four home runs, 13 RBI, 21 runs scored and six doubles through 141 plate appearances. Manager Stephen Vogt is still trying to figure out who will fit best at leadoff while Steven Kwan (hamstring) is out, and Freeman is in the mix, having hit atop the order in each of the last three games. • Runs bases Wednesday
Thomas (knee) ran the bases Wednesday, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

Advice: It's the first time he's done so since being diagnosed with a Grade 2 MCL sprain in his left knee three weeks ago. Zuckerman notes that Thomas was not running at full effort but seemed to be moving at close to 100 percent. Running the bases is typically one of the last steps a player coming back from a leg issue takes before a rehab assignment, although it's not clear exactly when Thomas might be cleared for rehab games. • Lane Thomas runs the bases before game
Lane Thomas, coming back from a sprained MCL in his left knee, ran the bases at Nationals Park prior to Wednesday’s game.

Advice: MASN’s Mark Zuckerman said he wasn’t quite running at 100 percent but wasn’t all that far below that. Thomas has also been hitting, and barring a setback, he should return before the end of the month. Rotoworld Today, 9:49 am
