• Justin Steele goes 3 1/3 innings in rehab start
Justin Steele (hamstring) was a bit rusty in his first minor league rehab start at Triple-A Iowa on Wednesday, giving up three runs on six hits over his 3 1/3 innings of work.

Advice: The 28-year-old southpaw walked one and struck out four on the day, throwing 41 of his 63 total pitches for strikes. Cubs’ skipper Craig Counsell told reporters afterwards that all went well with Steele’s start and that he’ll meet the team in Chicago on Friday to determine the next step. It had been anticipated that Steele would only require one minor league rehab start before he was cleared to return, and it’s looking like that very well could be the case. • Emmanuel Clase earns tenth save vs. Astros
Emmanuel Clase struck out one batter in a scoreless tenth inning to earn the save against the Astros.

Advice: After the Guardians took a one-run lead in the top of the tenth inning, Clase was called on to close it out in the bottom of the frame. He struck out the first batter, then got Mauricio Dubón to line into a double play with the help of an outstanding diving catch by Steven Kwan. Clase is up to nine saves with a 0.55 ERA, 0.80 WHIP, and a 16/1 K/BB ratio across 16 1/3 innings of work. Rotoworld 45 minutes ago
  • Triston McKenzie strikes out six in no-decision
Triston McKenzie allowed two runs with six strikeouts over seven innings in a no-decision against the Astros on Wednesday.

Advice: McKenzie was outstanding against the Astros on Wednesday. He had allowed just one hit across five scoreless innings before a double and a base hit brought the first run in for Houston in the sixth. Kyle Tucker led off the seventh inning with a game-tying homer. McKenzie finished the inning with two strikeouts, giving him six on the day. The 26-year-old right-hander will take a 4.34 ERA, 1.48 WHIP, and a 24/18 K/BB ratio across 29 innings into a start against the Tigers in Cleveland on Monday. Rotoworld 45 minutes ago
  • Justin Verlander pitches well in Astros loss
Justin Verlander allowed two runs with two strikeouts over seven innings in a no-decision against the Guardians on Wednesday.

Advice: Verlander had worked around four hits and two walks through four scoreless innings until the Guardians got to him in the fifth. Will Brennan led off the the inning with a solo homer to put Cleveland on the board. A walk and triple brought one more run across before Verlander escaped the frame. He tossed two more innings for the quality start, striking out two batters. The 41-year-old right-hander ends the day with a 2.08 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, and a 13/7 K/BB ratio across 17 1/3 innings. He’s set for a matchup against the Yankees in New York on Tuesday. Rotoworld 47 minutes ago

  • Solid in no-decision
Flexen did not factor into the decision Wednesday against the Twins, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks over five innings. He struck out four.

Advice: While the White Sox failed to hang on to a one-run lead after Flexen departed, it was another strong start from the right-hander -- he's now allowed just two runs on six hits in his last two outings (10 innings). Overall, Flexen is 1-3 with a 4.85 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 17:12 K:BB across 29.2 innings in a swing role with Chicago. With Jonathan Cannon back in Triple-A, it seems likely that Flexen will remain in the rotation for now. He's currently slated to face the Rays on the road next week. Rotowire.com 52 minutes ago

  • Trevor Williams tosses five shutout in win
Trevor Williams tossed five shutout innings with three strikeouts in a win over the Rangers on Wednesday.

Advice: Williams’ strong start to the season continued on Wednesday as he was able to keep a good Rangers lineup scoreless across five frames. He worked around plenty of traffic on the bases, giving up five hits and four walks while striking out three. The 32-year-old right-hander will take a 2.27 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, and a 22/12 K/BB ratio across 31 2/3 innings into a home start against the Orioles next week. Rotoworld Today, 7:26 pm

  • Andrew Heaney allows one run over seven vs. Nats
Andrew Heaney gave up one run with four strikeouts over seven innings in a loss against the Nationals.

Advice: Heaney was handed a tough-luck loss after giving up just one run over seven innings in what was his best start of the season. A double and a base hit in the second brought the only run in to score on Heaney. He worked around two more hits and did not walk a batter while striking out four. The 32-year-old left-hander ends the day with a 5.10 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, and a 26/9 K/BB ratio across 30 innings. He’ll take on the Athletics in Oakland on Monday. Rotoworld Today, 7:24 pm

  • Notches another save
Neris worked around a hit to pitch a scoreless ninth inning and record the save in Wednesday's 1-0 win over the Mets.

Advice: Shota Imanaga dominated the Mets across seven innings, and then Neris shut things down to secure his fifth save of the season. The veteran righty has pitched well since taking over closing duties from Adbert Alzolay, as Neris has allowed just one earned run over his last five appearances, lowering his season ERA to 3.27. While things could change at some point, it looks like Neris is locked in as the closer in Chicago for now. Rotowire.com Today, 7:15 pm
