    • Shut down from throwing
Almonte will be shut down from throwing after receiving a second opinion on his right shoulder strain Wednesday, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Advice: Manager Craig Counsell noted Wednesday that Almonte "didn't get great news" during his second opinion, and the right-hander will decide whether to resume rehab through a strengthening program or undergo surgery for his strained right shoulder, Patrick Mooney of The Athletic reports. Before landing on the injured list in May, Almonte registered six holds and one save over 17 outings with a 3.45 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 20:8 K:BB across 15.2 innings. He was transferred to the 60-day injured list June 27, and the 30-year-old could be on the shelf for the rest of the season if he opts for surgery. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 3:03 pm

    • Yency Almonte gets bad news from second opinion
Yency Almonte (shoulder) did not get great news from the second opinion that he received on his injured shoulder.

Advice: The Cubs will have him shut down from throwing for a while before making a decision on whether or not he’ll undergo a surgical procedure of continue to go with the rest and rehab route. He shouldn’t be expected to return any time this season. Rotoworld Wednesday, 2:59 pm

    • Shifts to 60-day IL
The Twins transferred Stewart (shoulder) to the 60-day injured list Wednesday.

Advice: The right-hander has been on the shelf with shoulder tendinitis since early May, so the move to the 60-day IL won't affect his return timeline. Stewart has progressed to facing live batters this week and could soon begin a rehab assignment. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 1:53 pm

    • Twins transfer Brock Stewart to 60-day IL
Twins transferred RHP Brock Stewart to the 60-day injured list.

Advice: There haven’t been any setbacks in the 32-year-old hurler’s recovery from shoulder tendinitis, this was merely done as a procedural move to free up a spot on the team’s 40-man roster for the promotion of Brooks Lee on Wednesday. Stewart is tentatively scheduled to rejoin the Twins’ bullpen before the end of July. Rotoworld Wednesday, 1:42 pm

    • Requires rehab stint
Garcia (elbow) will throw a bullpen session Wednesday and will need at least one minor-league rehab appearance before being activated, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Advice: If all goes well, Garcia would be sent out for a rehab assignment following Wednesday's bullpen session. While it's unclear exactly how many appearances he'll need in the minors, manager John Schneider indicated Garcia would need more than one outing before rejoining the active roster. Once he's healthy, Garcia could take over closing duties considering Jordan Romano (elbow) will be shut down from throwing for at least six weeks. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 1:27 pm

    • Takes loss against Guardians
Kopech (2-7) allowed one hit and one earned run across 0.2 innings and took the loss Tuesday against the Guardians.

Advice: Kopech entered the game in the ninth inning with the score tied at 6-6. He allowed a leadoff single and threw a wild pitch to put the runner on third base before allowing a sacrifice fly to bring in the game-winning run for Cleveland. Kopech has each of the White Sox's last two saves and should remain the team's primary closer despite a 4.50 ERA and 1.39 WHIP in 36 innings this season. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 9:03 am

    • Michal Kopech takes loss against Guardians
Michael Kopech allowed one run on one hit in 1/3 of an inning in a loss to the Guardians on Tuesday.

Advice: Kopech entered the ninth in a tie game and allowed a lead-off single to Andres Gimenez. Gimenez would later move over on a groundout and then a wild pitch allowed him to advance to third where he was driven in by a sac fly off the bat of Bo Naylor. Kopech had allowed just one run in his last six innings and wasn’t particularly bad here, but the wild pitch highlights some of the inconsistency that he brings at the end of games. • Athletics designate Sean Newcomb for assignment
Athletics designated LHP Sean Newcomb for assignment.

Advice: Newcomb has been shown the door in Oakland after struggling to a 6.30 ERA, 1.70 WHIP and 7/8 K/BB ratio across 10 innings (seven appearances) this season. The 31-year-old lefty was a notable pitching prospect a few years ago with the Braves, but never quite blossomed into an upper-echelon starter at the highest level. Rotoworld Tuesday, 3:14 pm

    • Designated for assignment
The Athletics designated Newcomb for assignment Tuesday.

Advice: Newcomb made just seven appearances last year for Oakland and it seems that it will be the same this year as well. After posting a 6.30 ERA across 10.0 innings in seven games for Oakland, the 31-year-old will be looking to be claimed elsewhere. In a corresponding move, Tyler Ferguson was recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 2:18 pm
