      Tommy Edman, who is working his way back from wrist surgery, suffered a sprained ankle while taking grounders on Tuesday.

      Edman (wrist) sprained his ankle while fielding grounders Tuesday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

      Advice: It's not viewed as a major setback, but it's not ideal after Edman had finally been making some real progress with his surgically repaired right wrist. While the 26-year-old is feeling good physically, he needs some time before he's ready to play second base again. The Royals shifted Maikel Garcia over to second base and started CJ Alexander at third base Monday.       The Royals activated Massey (back) from the 10-day injured list Monday. He'll serve as the Royals' designated hitter and No. 5 batter in Monday's game against the Marlins.

      Advice: Massey has been limited to just 29 games this season because of a pair of back-related absences. He responded well to a recent pain-killing injection, however, and is ready to rejoin the Royals after completing a five-game rehab assignment with Triple-A Omaha this past week. There's certainly risk in another aggravation of the back issue, but Massey is worth picking up in fantasy leagues where available given how well he had been hitting before getting hurt (.835 OPS in 110 plate appearances with Kansas City).       Advice: Massey wasn’t expected to return just yet, but the Royals are bringing him back early with Adam Frazier down. Massey, who missed a month with a sprained back ligament, had played in five Double-A rehab games, going 4-for-21 with no extra-base hits, but he was still being limited to DH duties.       Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said Monday that Edman (wrist) could begin a rehab assignment soon, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.

      Advice: Edman has taken live at-bats from both sides of the plate in recent days and his surgically repaired right wrist has responded well. Since he's resided on the injured list all season, the 29-year-old would presumably require an extended minor-league rehab assignment before being activated, but he's tracking toward a return to the Cardinals before the All-Star break.
