• Starting rehab assignment
Gallegos (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Memphis on Friday.

Advice: Gallegos has been on the shelf since early May with a right shoulder impingement but has shown enough progress in recent live batting practice sessions that he's been cleared for game action. The veteran reliever had allowed 12 runs over nine innings before getting hurt, so the Cardinals could slow-play his rehab assignment to make sure he's sharp before they activate him. • Mets recall Nunez from Triple-A
Mets recalled RHP Dedniel Nunez from Triple-A Syracuse, according to the New York Post’s Joel Sherman.

Advice: Nunez is back with the Mets again. He has a 3.24 ERA and SO:BB of 13:3 in 8 1/3 innings in the majors this year. Nunez takes the roster spot left open when the Mets optioned Christian Scott. He’ll will serve as a bullpen option. Rotoworld Today, 8:16 am
  • Sharp in latest rehab outing
Francis (forearm) struck out five over 3.2 innings in his rehab outing with Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday. He gave up one unearned run on one hit and one walk.

Advice: Francis made what was likely the fourth and final appearance of his rehab assignment and should be ready to return from the 15-day injured list this weekend. Shortly before he was shelved with right forearm extensor tendinitis in late April, Francis had been working out of the bullpen as a tandem starter with Yariel Rodriguez (back), but with Rodriguez joining Francis on the IL soon thereafter, Alek Manoah had since settled into the No. 5 spot in the rotation. Manoah exited his latest start Wednesday with right elbow discomfort, and if he ends up requiring a stint on the IL, Francis could re-emerge as a rotation option in his return to the Blue Jays. • Starting rehab assignment
Brewer (back) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Iowa on Friday, Tony Andracki of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Advice: Brewer has missed the last couple weeks of action with a lower-back injury. Because he hasn't been sidelined long, his rehab assignment figures to be brief, provided everything goes according to plan. Brewer has posted a 3.09 ERA and 12:4 K:BB over 11.2 innings with the Cubs this season. Rotowire.com Today, 8:08 am

  • Back with team, activation imminent
Medina (knee) returned to the Athletics following his latest rehab start with Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday and could be activated during this weekend's series with Atlanta, MLB.com reports.

Advice: The right-hander has seemingly knocked off some rust with each of his rehab outings, even though his trio of minor-league appearances have seen him hit four batters and pitch to plenty of contact (14 hits allowed over eight innings). Nevertheless, Medina topped out at 100.2 mph and averaged 97 mph with his fastball in his Tuesday start, and he then proceeded to throw a bullpen session prior to Thursday's extra-innings loss to the Rays. If he doesn't show any residual effects from his busy week, Medina appears headed for activation at some point this weekend, although whether he'll immediately slot into a starting role on an injury-riddled Athletics rotation remains to be seen. • Throwing from 120 feet
Ferrer (shoulder) recently extended his throwing distance off flat ground to 120 feet, MLB.com reports.

Advice: Ferrer has been making slow progress in his recovery from a teres major strain in his left shoulder, an injury that first cropped up during spring training. He's been limited to playing catch for nearly a month, though now that he's upped his distance to 120 feet, he could soon be ready to resume throwing off a mound. Ferrer is likely still at least a couple of weeks from heading out on a minor-league rehab assignment and probably won't be a realistic option to return from the 60-day injured list until the second half of June. • Recalled from Triple-A
The Mets recalled Nunez from Triple-A Syracuse on Friday, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports.

Advice: Nunez has allowed three runs while boasting a 13:3 K:BB over 8.1 innings out of the Mets' bullpen this season. He will operate in middle relief. Rotowire.com Today, 7:52 am
  • Tough-luck loser Thursday
Ferguson (0-1) was charged with the loss against the Rays in extra innings Thursday, allowing an unearned run across 1.1 hitless innings. He struck out one.

Advice: Ferguson entered the game in the 11th with the score knotted at 5-5 and retired the side in order before returning for the 12th and inducing an inning-opening groundout that moved phantom runner Jose Caballero to third base. T.J. McFarland subsequently allowed Caballero to cross the plate on Richie Palacios' walk-off single, saddling Ferguson with the loss. The right-hander did at least bounce back from a rocky outing Wednesday, one that had seen him allow a run on three hits over two-thirds of an inning. Ferguson is likely to continue seeing work primarily in lower-leverage scenarios, and he holds a 4.50 ERA and 1.40 WHIP over his nine appearances this season. Rotowire.com Today, 7:26 am
  • Strikes out seven in bulk role
Alexander didn't factor into the decision Thursday against the Athletics, allowing four runs on seven hits over 4.2 innings. He struck out seven.

Advice: While his seven punchouts matched a season high, Alexander struggled initially after opener Shawn Armstrong delivered two scoreless innings. The southpaw allowed four runs in the third, including a pair on a Shea Langeliers homer. It's been a tough stretch for Alexander of late -- he's now given up 21 runs in his last four outings (24 innings). Overall, he's 2-3 with a 6.19 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 48:13 K:BB across 56.2 innings this year. Rotowire.com Today, 7:10 am
