• On verge of rehab assignment
Middleton (forearm) through off the mound again Friday and is set for a rehab assignment next week, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Middleton is on the cusp of a rehab assignment according to manager Oli Marmol, who explained that the reliever will report to either Double-A Springfield or Triple-A Memphis for his assignment this upcoming week. The right-hander is eligible to return from the 15-day injured list May 17 and he appears to be on track to return from his forearm injury on or close to that date. Rotowire.com 8 minutes ago
  • Joey Loperfido riding the pine again on Friday
Joey Loperfido is once again absent from the Astros’ starting lineup for Friday night’s skirmish against the Tigers.

Advice: It’s the third time in four games that the 24-year-old slugger has found himself situated on the bench. What’s troublesome, is that two of those games have been against right-handed pitching. Through his first 21 plate appearances with the Astros, Loperfido is hitting .316/.381/.316 with a pair of RBI, one stolen base and a 7/2 K/BB ratio. Jake Meyers is starting in his place once again in center field and batting ninth against Casey Mize and the Tigers on Friday night. Rotoworld 9 minutes ago

  • Recalled from Round Rock
The Rangers recalled Anderson from Triple-A Round Rock on Friday.

Advice: Anderson will join Texas' bullpen as a replacement for Josh Sborz (shoulder), who landed on the 15-day injured list Thursday. Anderson has appeared in four games for the Rangers this season, allowing four earned runs across three innings while striking out five batters and walking none. He will likely be limited to low-leverage situations while in the big leagues. Rotowire.com 13 minutes ago
  • Mark Canha returns to Tigers’ lineup on Friday
Mark Canha (illness) returned to the Tigers’ starting lineup for their series opener against the Astros on Friday night.

Advice: The 35-year-old outfielder missed each of the team’s last two contests due to illness. He’s off to a decent start overall through his first 34 games with the Tigers — hitting .248/.367/.444 with five homers, 16 RBI, one stolen base and a 28/17 K/BB ratio. He’ll serve as the team’s designated hitter and bat third against left-hander Framber Valdez on Friday evening in Motown. Rotoworld 13 minutes ago

  • Ramping up activity
Matz (back) played catch off the mound Friday in St. Louis, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Matz has been on the 15-day injured list since May 3 while dealing with a lower-back strain, more specifically a protruding disc, but manager Oli Marmol said Friday that the expectation for the left-hander is for him to throw at a higher intensity Monday. It's unclear how close Matz is to returning to game action, but prior to being activated from the injured list, he'll likely have to make at least one rehab start with a minor-league affiliate. • Rob Refsnyder (hamstring) returns to lineup Friday
Rob Refsnyder (hamstring) returned to the Red Sox’ starting lineup for Friday’s matchup against the Nationals.

Advice: Refsnyder has been sidelined since May 5 due to a hamstring injury, but the way that the team’s schedule fell that only caused him to miss two games. He’ll serve as the Red Sox’ designated hitter and will bat second against Patrick Corbin and the Nationals on Friday evening at Fenway Park. Rotoworld 21 minutes ago

  • Brewers designate Corbin Martin for assignment
Brewers designated RHP Corbin Maritn for assignment.

Advice: Faced with a 40-man roster crunch on Friday, it looks like Martin drew the short straw this time around. The 28-year-old hurler hasn’t pitched in the big leagues since 2022 and holds a 6.71 ERA and a 1.89 WHIP over 57 2/3 innings in his career at the game’s highest level. Rotoworld 26 minutes ago

  • Moves to 60-day IL
The Pirates transferred Delay (knee) to the 60-day injured list Friday.

Advice: Delay will give up his spot on the 40-man roster in order to make room for Daulton Jefferies, who was acquired in a trade with the Giants on Friday. Delay was already expected to be out until July after undergoing knee surgery in April, so his move to the 60-day IL has virtually no impact on his return timeline. He has resumed catching during bullpen sessions, but he still has a long way to go before returning to the Pirates' lineup. Rotowire.com 28 minutes ago

  • Brewers transfer JB Bukauskas to 60-day IL
Brewers transferred RHP JB Bukauskas to the 60-day injured list.

Advice: The 27-year-old right-hander has been shelved since April 14 due to a right lat sprain, and now it looks like he’s going to be out for a while. While he’s making some progress in his recovery, he’s not close to beginning a minor league rehab assignment just yet. This was done primarily as a procedural move by the Brewers to open up a spot on their 40-man roster for Friday’s scheduled starter, Robert Gasser. Rotoworld 29 minutes ago
