• Game-tying homer Thursday
Bleday went 1-for-6 with a game-tying two-run home run in an extra-innings win over the Rockies on Thursday.

Advice: Bleday stepped to the plate in the 11th with the Athletics already having cut a four-point inning-opening deficit in half, and he delivered with a 409-foot shot to center with Abraham Toro aboard to knot the score at 9-9. It was the second consecutive game in which Bleday left the yard, and the clutch homer also extended the outfielder's hitting streak to six games. Bleday has impressively laced 23 of his 44 hits for extra bases this season, and all three components of his .243/.315/.459 slash line are easily all career bests. Rotowire.com 21 minutes ago

  • Sent to Triple-A
Atlanta optioned Williams to Triple-A Gwinnett on Friday.

Advice: The 27-year-old had his contract selected by Atlanta in mid-April, but he tallied just four plate appearances during his month with the big club. Joey Wendle was signed to a major-league contract Friday and is taking Williams' place on the roster. Rotowire.com 21 minutes ago
  • Gets MLB deal from Atlanta
Atlanta signed Wendle to a one-year contract Friday.

Advice: Wendle was released by the Mets earlier this week after hitting just .222/.243/.250 in 37 plate appearances but has quickly caught on with their division rivals. The utility infielder made the All-Star team with the Rays in 2021 but has produced just a .604 OPS in three seasons since then. Wendle will back up all over the infield in Atlanta. • Pops another homer Thursday
Davis went 2-for-6 with a two-run home run in an extra-innings win over the Rockies on Thursday.

Advice: Davis gave the Athletics' first rally a serious boost in the eighth inning when he left the yard with Seth Brown aboard and Oakland down by three. Half of Davis' four homers on the season have come in the last three games, and with hits in each of those contests, he's pushed his OPS (.618) to its highest point since May 8. • Might lose roster spot
Meneses could be optioned to Triple-A Rochester when Lane Thomas (knee) is ready to come off the injured list, Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports reports.

Advice: The 32-year-old has been an everyday player for the Nationals this season between first base and DH, but he's managed just a .234/.299/.299 slash line in 43 games with two homers and 24 RBI. Victor Robles is the more likely candidate to get booted from the 26-man roster to make room for Thomas, but Robles is out of minor-league options and would have to be exposed to waivers, while Meneses could be optioned to Triple-A without any risk of losing him. Jesse Winker would likely become the primary DH in that scenario. Rotowire.com Today, 8:05 am

  • Roster spot in jeopardy
Robles could be placed on waivers when Lane Thomas (knee) is deemed ready to come off the injured list, Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports reports.

Advice: Jacob Young has become the everyday center fielder, and while Eddie Rosario and Jesse Winker have been erratic at the plate, they could have trade value later in the season if they heat up at the right time. That leaves Robles, who doesn't have any minor-league options remaining, as the odd man out in the Nationals' outfield. The 27-year-old has done little to justify keeping him on the 40-man roster though, batting .087 (2-for-23) when he's been healthy in 2024. If the front office decides his defensive value as a fifth outfielder is worth keeping around though, Joey Meneses could be optioned instead. Rotowire.com Today, 8:00 am
  • Gets rare start Thursday
Williams got the start at third base Thursday and went 0-for-2 in a win over the Cubs.

Advice: Zack Short has seen the bulk of the playing time at the hot corner while Austin Riley (side) has been on the shelf, but Williams got his first start of the season at any position Thursday, although he didn't do much with the opportunity. The 27-year-old utility player has only two other plate appearances on the season, and he's still looking for his first hit of 2024. Rotowire.com Today, 7:23 am
  • Two hits in Thursday's win
Tromp went 2-for-4 with a run scored in Thursday's win over the Cubs.

Advice: The 29-year-old backstop has seen his playing time pick up lately due in part to a concussion scare for Travis d'Arnaud, and Tromp has responded by going 6-for-13 with three doubles and two runs scored while appearing in four of the last seven games. His time in the majors figures to be coming to a close, however -- Sean Murphy (oblique) has homered in back-to-back games to begin his rehab assignment with Triple-A Gwinnett and could come off the IL as soon as this weekend. • Begins rehab assignment
Martinez (hand) went 0-for-3 with a strikeout Thursday in his first rehab game with the Arizona Complex League Guardians.

Advice: Martinez began the season on the injured list with a right foot contusion but then suffered a fractured hamate bone six weeks ago while on a rehab assignment for the foot injury. The 22-year-old will eventually move up to a higher affiliate and is likely to be optioned to Triple-A Columbus once he's deemed ready rather than be added to the Guardians' roster.
