• Garrett Mitchell’s rehab assignment nearly over
Brewers’ manager Pat Murphy noted on Friday that the final day for Garrett Mitchell’s (finger) minor league rehab assignment is on Saturday.

Advice: Murphy also told reporters that there haven’t been any discussions about activating the 25-year-old outfielder and optioning him to Triple-A Nashville. That means that the Brewers will have some decisions to make about their roster before the weekend is through. Rotoworld Friday, 3:27 pm

  • Rehab assignment ending soon
Manager Pat Murphy said Friday the rehab assignment for Mitchell (finger) will end Saturday and the team hasn't had discussions about optioning him, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Advice: The Brewers are currently dealing with a logjam in the outfield, with Christian Yelich, Blake Perkins, Sal Frelick and Jackson Chourio all seeing significant action during Mitchell's absence due to a fractured finger. Considering the injury and Milwaukee's outfield depth, it's possible that Mitchell will remain with Triple-A Nashville after being reinstated. However, Murphy's comments don't seem to support that possibility. Mitchell was removed from Wednesday's rehab outing with an unrelated hamstring injury but was able to suit up and play Thursday. Regardless of what level he ends up playing, Mitchell should be activated from the 60-day IL this weekend. Rotowire.com Friday, 3:00 pm

  • Not in Friday's lineup
Massey is absent from the lineup for Friday's game against the Guardians.

Advice: Massey was hit by a pitch in Thursday's game, so it's possible he's a bit sore. Salvador Perez will be the Royals' designated hitter while Freddy Fermin does the catching. Rotowire.com Friday, 12:59 pm
  • Contract selected by Colorado
The Rockies selected Schunk's contract from Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday.

Advice: Schunk posted an .811 OPS in his first taste of the Triple-A level in 2023 and has followed up with a .291/.339/.469 slash line through 69 contests this year. That production has come in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League, so those numbers can't be taken at face value. Schunk will be making his big-league debut when he gets into a game, and he should see some playing time between second and third base while up with the Rockies, though those opportunities could be limited with both Brendan Rodgers and Ryan McMahon currently healthy. • Rockies call up Aaron Schunk for utility role
Rockies selected the contract of INF Aaron Schunk from Triple-A Albuquerque.

Advice: Coco Montes gets bypassed again, even though he had 150 points of OPS on Schunk in Triple-A. Strictly a third and second baseman previously, Schunk has seen some time at shortstop this year to prepare for a possible future as a utilityman. The 26-year-old former second-round pick was batting .291/.339/.469 for Albuquerque. Rotoworld Friday, 12:41 pm
  • Idle Friday
Gordon is out of the lineup for Friday's game against Philadelphia.

Advice: Gordon will get a breather Friday after making six straight starts, collecting a hit in each contest. Bryan De La Cruz will play left field and lead off against the Phillies. Rotowire.com Friday, 12:28 pm

  • Jose Iglesias remains on bench Friday
Jose Iglesias is out of the Mets lineup in favor of Jeff McNeil for a fifth straight game Friday.

Advice: McNeil had a sac fly in five plate appearances during last night’s 12-2 rout, buying him at least another week of starts. Iglesias is hitting .400/.447/.457 in 38 plate appearances, the last of which came six days ago. He probably will get a start Saturday with the Mets due to face a lefty. Rotoworld Friday, 12:19 pm
  • Held out again Friday
Lowe (toe) remains out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Nationals.

Advice: Lowe hasn't played since suffering a fractured right pinky toe June 22. The Rays are facing a lefty in Mitchell Parker on Friday, so Lowe might not have been in the lineup anyway. If he remains out Saturday against righty Jake Irvin, a stint on the injured list may have to be considered. Jose Caballero is at second base Friday. Rotowire.com Friday, 12:07 pm
  • Brandon Lowe on bench again Friday
Brandon Lowe (toe) isn’t starting for Friday’s game against the Nationals.

Advice: Lowe hasn’t played since June 22nd after breaking his pinkie toe. He also battled an illness earlier this week. Tampa Bay is also facing a left-hander starter in Mitchell Parker. The Rays haven’t put Lowe on the IL yet so hopefully he can return to the lineup soon. Jose Caballero will get the start at second base and bat seventh on Friday. Rotoworld Friday, 12:03 pm
