      Fairbanks (2-3) earned the win Thursday, allowing one run on two hits over two innings against the Twins. He struck out one.

      Advice: Fairbanks was not needed to start the ninth due to the Rays holding a four-run lead, but a leadoff homer followed by the next two runners reaching base necessitated the call to Fairbanks. After inducing a couple of quick outs, Jose Miranda tagged him for a two-out game-tying homer that sent the game to extras. Once the Rays regained the lead in the 10th, Fairbanks stayed on to close out his own victory. The blown save was the second of the season for Fairbanks, who ran the gamut during the series with the Twins, suffering the loss on Tuesday followed by the blown save and subsequent win on Thursday.       Woods Richardson did not factor into the decision Thursday, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks in six innings against the Rays. He struck out six.

      Advice: Woods Richardson allowed single runs in the second and third, keeping the Rays at bay as he completed six innings for his fourth quality start of the season. It was also the ninth time in 12 starts that Woods Richardson left with a no-decision. It was the third time in four outings that Woods Richardson struck out six batters, including a couple of big strikeouts to end the fourth and fifth innings, each coming with runners in scoring position to keep the game tied. Woods Richardson has been solid throughout his first full season in the majors, tallying a 3.26 ERA and 1.14 WHIP through 12 starts with 52 strikeouts over 60.2 innings.       Castillo (6-8) suffered the loss Thursday, allowing five runs on eight hits and two walks over five innings against the Guardians. He struck out four.

      Advice: Castillo entered the fifth with a 3-2 lead but with two outs, a walk preceded a home run by Andres Gimenez, then another walk paved the way for a Josh Naylor double that saddled Castillo with five runs allowed and left him on the hook for the loss. Following Castillo's start on June 2, he was on a 10-game stretch of allowing no more than two earned runs. However, his last three starts have been more of a mixed bag, having allowed 12 earned runs over his last 16 innings (6.75 ERA) including five runs allowed in two of his last three starts.       Advice: Senga could progress to facing hitters in a live batting practice session at some point over the weekend, depending on how he comes out of his latest throwing session. The 31-year-old righty remains without a definitive return timeline at the moment, but he’s going to require several weeks of rehab starts once he gets to that point in his ramp-up process.       Senga (shoulder/triceps) threw another bullpen session Wednesday, and manager Carlos Mendoza said afterward that the right-hander's next step could be facing hitters in live batting practice, Julian Guilarte of SI.com reports.

      Advice: The Mets will likely re-evaluate Senga on Thursday and Friday, but if he feels fine physically coming out of his latest bullpen session, expect him to gain clearance to face hitters. Senga has been on the injured list all season, first because of a right posterior shoulder capsule strain before he experienced right triceps inflammation in late May.       Pete Fairbanks (thumb) blew a save while allowing a run against the Twins on Thursday, but worked two innings to get the victory.

      Advice: Fairbanks entered the game with a couple of runners on and Tampa Bay holding a 6-3 cushion. He was able to get the first two outs, but then gave up a game-tying homer to Jose Miranda to blow the save. He was able to get the final three outs after the Rays scored in the 10th, however, so he gets the win. The right-hander missed a couple of days while dealing with a thumb injury, so the positive is he was back on the mound and does at least get a win.     • Simeon Woods Richardson limits Rays to two runs
      Simeon Woods Richardson held the Rays to just two runs in his six innings of work, but he didn’t factor into the decision Thursday.

      Advice: The 23-year-old right-hander struck out six while walking two and allowing four hits. Woods Richardson struggled in his previous outing against the A’s while allowing four runs in four innings, but this was much more like the version we’ve seen for the majority of 2024.     • Luis Castillo struggles in start vs. Guardians
      Luis Castillo gave up five runs in five innings against the Guardians on Thursday while picking up a loss.

      Advice: Castillo allowed eight hits and two walks while striking out four. He gave up two homers in the outing; a solo blast by Will Brennan, and a two-run shot to Andres Gimenez in the fifth. It’s a disappointing outing for the right-hander, and it’s the second time in three outings he’s given up five runs in as many frames.     • Tosses quality start but takes loss
      Crochet (6-6) took the loss against Houston on Wednesday, allowing three runs on nine hits and one walk while striking out eight batters over six innings.

      Advice: Crochet racked up a hearty 19 whiffs and eight punchouts, but it wasn't enough to keep him out of the loss column in a contest during which he was supported with just one run. The fact that the three earned runs were the most the left-hander has allowed since April 24 speaks volumes about the quality of his campaign thus far. Crochet has tallied six consecutive quality starts and is tied for 10th in the majors with 10 total on the campaign.
