      Nick Pivetta surrendered four runs in four innings Wednesday in a no-decision versus the Phillies.

      Advice: Pivetta walked four tonight. He’s issued 11 free passes in his last four starts after totaling two in his first five. Pivetta also struck out four tonight.     • Cristopher Sánchez pulled in fifth versus Boston
      Cristopher Sánchez was charged with four runs in four-plus innings Wednesday against the Red Sox.

      Advice: It was one run through four, but the Red Sox opened up the fifth with three straight singles, only one of them hard hit, and the decision was made to pull Sánchez. There’s a good argument that Sánchez deserves better at this point — he entered the game with a 2.71 ERA, and he had thrown just 67 pitches tonight — but the Phillies wanted to be aggressive with their bullpen usage tonight.     • Braxton Garrett struggles in loss to Mets
      Braxton Garrett struggled in a losing effort against the Mets on Wednesday night, giving up six runs (four earned) on seven hits over his 4 2/3 frames.

      Advice: Garrett punched out four batters on the night and didn’t walk a batter. Most of the damage done against him came via the long ball, with Harrison Bader crushing a two-run homer in the opening inning and Starling Marte added a solo shot in the third. The Mets also scratched out three runs in the second inning — helped by some shoddy defense by the Marlins. The 26-year-old southpaw got eight whiffs on 89 pitches on the night, posting a CSW of 24 percent.       Megill earned the save Wednesday in a 5-4 win over the Blue Jays, working around a hit and a walk while striking out one in a scoreless ninth inning.

      Advice: After Toronto logged three straight hits off Hoby Milner to start the ninth, the Brewers turned to Megill to shut the door. He got off to a shaky start, allowing two inherited runs to score after a hit and a walk, though he'd ultimately settle in and close out the 5-3 victory. The 30-year-old Megill has now converted Milwaukee's last three save chances while allowing just one earned run in his last seven appearances.       Trevor Megill tossed a scoreless ninth inning on Wednesday against the Blue Jays to record his 11th save of the season.

      Advice: Megill got the call to protect a three-run lead in the ninth inning after lefty Hoby Milner was unable to record an out to open the frame. He gave up a run-scoring single to Bo Bichette, which put the potential tying runs on-base before walking Danny Jansen to load the bases. He somehow managed to extinguish the fire and preserve the victory by striking out George Springer, getting Alejandro Kirk to fly out and coaxing a game-ending line-out from pinch-hitter Vladimir Guerrero Jr. It truly was one of the more impressive escape acts of the year.       Gray will start Wednesday against the Dodgers, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

      Advice: The Rangers had held off on officially naming Gray their starter for Wednesday's game since he pitched 2.1 innings in relief in Saturday's loss to the Giants. He's evidently bounced back fine from that appearance and will pitch on short rest versus the Dodgers.       Dunning (4-5) took the loss Tuesday against the Dodgers, allowing six runs on four hits and three walks while striking out two over 3.2 innings.

      Advice: Dunning dug the Rangers an early 3-0 hole after surrendering a three-run homer to Will Smith in the first inning. He kept the Dodgers off the board the next two frames but loaded up the bases in the fourth before being replaced by Jonathan Hernandez with two outs. Hernandez gave up a double to Mookie Betts, which plated two runs that were charged to Dunning. He's now given up 14 runs (12 earned) over his last 17 innings and hasn't pitched more than five frames since April 28.
