    • Giants activate LaMonte Wade Jr. from 10-day IL
Giants activated 1B/OF LaMonte Wade Jr. from the 10-day injured list.

Advice: As expected, the 30-year-old slugger will return to start at first base and bat second on Friday night against Landon Knack and the Dodgers. Prior to landing on the injured list in late May with a Grade 2 left hamstring strain, Wade had been hitting .333/.470/.426 with a pair of homers, 17 RBI and one stolen base through his first 166 plate appearances. • Batting second in return
Wade (hamstring) is playing first base and batting second Friday against the Dodgers, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Advice: Wade will make his return from a Grade 2 hamstring strain he sustained in late May. The first baseman played three rehab games and went 1-for-7 with three runs scored, four walks and two strikeouts. Rotowire.com Friday, 3:48 pm
    • Bryce Johnson starts against right-hander Friday
Bryce Johnson will start in right field and bat ninth for the Padres on Friday night against the Red Sox in Boston.

Advice: It’s notable because there’s a right-hander on the mound for the Red Sox on Friday night. The 28-year-old outfielder had started each of the first three games since he was recalled from Triple-A El Paso on Monday — but all of them were against southpaws. This could be an indication that the speedster is now an everyday starter for the Padres which would make him an interesting option in deeper mixed leagues. Rotoworld Friday, 1:03 pm
    • Getting break Friday
Palacios is out of the lineup Friday against the Nationals, Ryan Bass of Bally Sports Sun reports.

Advice: The lefty-hitting Palacios will begin the game in the dugout as southpaw Mitchell Parker takes the mound for Washington. The 27-year-old outfielder started every game of Tampa Bay's most recent series against Seattle, going 4-for-12 with four runs and two RBI. Rotowire.com Friday, 12:12 pm
    • Sitting Thursday
Canha is absent from Thursday's lineup against the Angels.

Advice: Canha had started Detroit's last 22 games but hit only .211 in that span. He had a 15.9 percent strikeout rate during that stretch -- lessening the reason for concern -- though he'll still get a day of rest. Gio Urshela is sliding to first base, Matt Vierling to third, and Adkil Baddoo enters the lineup in left field. Rotowire.com Thursday, 4:40 pm

    • Out of Philadelphia lineup
Marsh is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Marlins.

Advice: It's southpaw Trevor Rogers toeing the rubber for Miami, so the left-handed hitting Marsh will take a seat. Cristian Pache will be in center field and Kyle Schwarber will cover left. Rotowire.com Thursday, 11:50 am
    • Lamonte Wade Jr. coming off IL on Thursday
According to MLB.com’s Maria I. Guardado, the Giants will activate 1B/OF Lamonte Wade Jr. (hamstring) from the 10-day IL on Friday.

Advice: The veteran was placed on the IL at the end of May and will have missed about four weeks. Wade has a tremendous on-base percentage and will return to an everyday role against right-handed pitching. That will send David Villar back to the bench. Rotoworld Thursday, 11:27 am
    • Poised to come off IL Friday
Wade (hamstring) is expected to be activated from the 10-day injured list Friday, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Wade has been sidelined for the past month with a Grade 2 left hamstring strain but has been cleared to return after playing three rehab games with Triple-A Sacramento, going 1-for-7 with a 2:4 K:BB. The 30-year-old has slashed a robust .333/.470/.426 for the Giants this season and will go back to receiving regular starts at first base against right-handed pitching. • Hitting bench against southpaw
Conforto is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Cubs, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Advice: The lefty-hitting Conforto will hit the bench for the second time in the series as the Cubs send southpaw Shota Imanaga to the hill. The Giants will go with the right-handed-hitting Austin Slater in left field in place of Conforto, who had plated at least one run in four of his last five games. Rotowire.com Thursday, 10:19 am
