    • Nick Lodolo “aiming to return on Monday”
According to The Enquirer’s Charlie Goldsmith, Nick Lodolo (groin) will throw a bullpen on Saturday and is “aiming to return on Monday.”

Advice: Lodolo threw a bullpen on Wednesday and felt good, so the bullpen on Saturday could be the final step to getting him back on the mound in an MLB game. That will mean his stay on the IL was the minimum amount of time, so the Reds feel that a rehab start is unnecessary. Rotoworld Today, 9:17 am

    • Still on track for Monday return
Lodolo (groin) threw a successful extended bullpen session Wednesday and is set to throw off the mound again Saturday, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Advice: Assuming he comes out of Saturday's session without any hiccups, Lodolo will be set to return from the 15-day injured list to start against the Cardinals on Monday, the first day he'll be eligible for activation. The left-hander is working his way back from a left groin strain. Rotowire.com Today, 7:38 am

    • Comes up short in first loss
Skubal (6-1) took the loss Wednesday as the Tigers were downed 8-3 by the Royals, giving up four runs on six hits and two walks over five innings. He struck out six.

Advice: In a matchup of elite southpaws, Skubal wasn't able to keep pace with Cole Ragans and failed to complete six innings for only the second time this season in 10 starts, while tying his season high in runs allowed. Skubal also served up a solo shot to Nelson Velazquez in the fourth inning, just the fourth homer off him in 60 innings. Skubal will take a 2.25 ERA, 0.85 WHIP and 72:10 K:BB into his next outing, which lines up to come at home next week against the Pirates. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 6:26 pm

    • Decision on surgery coming next week
Whitlock is scheduled to visit Dr. Jeff Dugas in Birmingham, Ala. on May 30, at which point a decision will be made whether he'll require surgery to address his right elbow sprain, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Whitlock was originally placed on the 15-day injured list April 17 with a left oblique strain, but the health of his pitching elbow is now the Red Sox's chief concern after he sustained the injury in his lone rehab start for Triple-A Worcester last Wednesday. He's reportedly dealing with damage to his UCL, so while the early expectation is that he'll need some kind of procedure to address the injury, he'll first consult with Dr. Dugas to see if rest and rehab is a viable treatment plan. Even if Whitlock is able to avoid surgery, he's still likely looking at an extended absence and likely won't be ready to rejoin the Red Sox until the second half of the season even in a best-case scenario. • Tarik Skubal allows four runs in loss to Royals
Tarik Skubal allowed four runs over five innings on Wednesday in a loss to the Royals.

Advice: Fantasy managers were expecting a throwback pitcher’s duel in this one, but Skubal got in trouble right away on Wednesday afternoon as Kansas City struck for a pair of runs in the second inning before Nelson Velázquez took him deep for a fourth-inning solo shot. He finished with six strikeouts and only handed out a pair of free passes. He’ll bring a stellar 2.25 ERA, 0.85 WHIP and 72/10 K/BB ratio across 60 innings (10 starts) into a favorable home matchup on Tuesday against the Pirates. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:38 pm

    • Garrett Whitlock to get final opinion next week
Garrett Whitlock (elbow) will meet with Dr. Jeff Dugas next week to get a final opinion on whether or not he’ll require surgery.

Advice: Whitlock has been diagnosed with UCL damage in his elbow and surgery has been advised, but it looks like they want to hear it from at least one more doctor before he goes under the knife. The expectation remains that Whitlock will miss the remainder of the 2024 season — and part of the 2025 campaign as well — while recovering. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:06 pm

    • Simeon Woods Richardson goes 4 2/3 scoreless
Simeon Woods Richardson was lifted after throwing 4 2/3 scoreless innings Wednesday against the Nationals.

Advice: One more out would have put Woods Richardson in line for his second big-league victory, but Rocco Baldelli didn’t trust him to retire CJ Abrams for a third time with no one on base in the fifth. Woods Richardson is 1-0 with a 2.57 ERA in six starts for the Twins. He’ll face the Royals at home next time out. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:36 pm
    • Goes 4.2 innings vs. Nats
Woods Richardson allowed three hits and one walk over 4.2 scoreless innings in a no-decision against the Nationals on Wednesday. He struck out one.

Advice: Woods Richardson didn't have his best stuff Wednesday, though he still managed to hold Washington scoreless before he was pulled after throwing 77 pitches in the fifth inning. While he came an out shy of qualifying for a win, it was another solid effort overall for the 23-year-old right-hander -- Woods Richardson has now held opponents to two runs or fewer in six of his seven outings this season. Overall, he's 1-0 with a 2.57 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 26:7 K:BB across 35 innings this year. Woods Richardson is currently lined up for a home matchup with the Royals in his next start. • Victorious again
Woo (2-0) earned the win Tuesday, yielding two hits and no walks with seven strikeouts across six scoreless innings against the Yankees.

Advice: Woo's been excellent to start 2024, allowing just one run across 15.2 innings after missing the first month of the campaign with elbow inflammation. The 24-year-old still seems to be on a pitch count, as he only threw 77 pitches Tuesday and hasn't exceeded 80 pitches in a start this year. He's projected to make another start Sunday at Washington.
