      Advice: Though Cherington struck an optimistic tone about Bednar's health, the two-time All-Star doesn't appear to have a concrete timeline to return from the 15-day injured list. Bednar is first eligible for activation next weekend, but since he has yet to resume throwing since landing on the shelf, he wouldn't appear on track for a return in the minimum amount of time.       Advice: Skenes surrendered a leadoff homer to Jarred Kelenic on his third pitch of the game, but that was the only run the talented rookie allowed. The right-handed hurler matched opposing ace Max Fried with a six-inning, six-hit, one-run line, though Skenes was more dominant with 13 whiffs and nine punchouts. Skenes has gotten stronger as he's settled into life in the big leagues.       Myers allowed three runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out six batters over six innings in a no-decision against the Cubs on Saturday.

      Advice: Myers came into Saturday having given up one or zero runs in four straight starts, all of which ended with his name in the win column. The right-hander couldn't extend the win streak Saturday, but he still pitched pretty well to notch his fourth quality start of the campaign. June was a breakout month for Myers, who was actually optioned to Triple-A on the first day of the month following a poor start against the White Sox on May 31.       Houck (7-6) took the loss Saturday, coughing up eight runs (seven earned) on nine hits -- including three home runs -- and a walk over 4.1 innings as the Red Sox were routed 11-1 by the Padres. He struck out six.

      Advice: Manny Machado took him deep twice, while Jackson Merrill also chipped in a long ball. Houck had served up only two homers all season coming into Saturday, and even with this performance, the right-hander sports a 2.67 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 105:19 K:BB through 107.2 innings on the season.       Nola (9-4) took the loss Saturday, giving up three runs on six hits over 6.2 innings in a 3-2 loss to the Marlins. He struck out nine without walking a batter.

      Advice: The veteran right-hander delivered his third straight quality start and 12th of the season on 100 pitches (71 strikes), but Nola let a win slip through his fingers when he served up back-to-back doubles with two outs in the seventh inning, with both coming around to score the final runs of the game. Nola took his first loss since May 8, and he'll carry a 3.43 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 99:25 K:BB through 107.2 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come on the road next weekend in Atlanta.       Lowe went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run and a double in Saturday's 6-5 loss to the Orioles.

      Advice: Lowe has four multi-hit efforts over his last nine games, a span that also includes two of his four homers this year. The first baseman has never displayed elite power, but his .369 slugging percentage for the season is low even by his standard.       Nathaniel Lowe went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer in a loss Saturday to the Orioles.

      Advice: Lowe also doubled. The homer was a two-run shot that got the Rangers back in the game to make it a 5-4 score in the sixth. The 28-year-old has not shown a ton of power thus far in 2024, as his .262 average and .348 on-base percentage have been dragged down by just four roundtrippers and a .369 slugging mark over 214 at-bats.       Paul Skenes struck out nine over six innings of one-run baseball but didn’t factor into the decision Saturday against Atlanta.

      Advice: Skenes gave up a leadoff homer to Jarred Kelenic in the first, and from that point out he was essentially lights out. The right-hander scattered six total hits in the contests with two walks allowed and 61-of-102 pitches going for strikes. To say that Skenes has lived up to the hype thus far is an understatement, and over his last four starts he’s given up a total of three runs with a 32/4 K/BB over 25 1/3 innings.     • Tanner Houck struggles in loss to Padres
      Tanner Houck gave up eight runs — seven earned — over 4 1/3 innings in a loss to the Padres on Saturday.

      Advice: Houck has been fantastic for the overwhelming majority of 2024. There wasn’t anything fantastic about this outing, other than he gave reason for San Diego hitters to have some fun. The right-hander gave up nine hits with one walk, and while he was able to at least add four punchouts, they don’t compensate for giving up three homers. Houck hadn’t allowed more than three runs since April 12, so it’s fair to write this one off as a “pobody’s nerfect.” He’s scheduled to face the Yankees on Friday, and he’ll try and lower an ERA that jumped from 2.18 to 2.67 after this clunker.
