Edman (wrist) will take live batting practice on Friday and Saturday at Double-A Springfield, Lynn Worthy of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Advice: If that goes well, Edman should be cleared to begin a rehab assignment with Springfield. Edman was recently set back a few days by a sprained ankle, but that appears to be a non-issue now. The Cardinals had been hoping to get Edman back prior to the All-Star break, but it's possible the little hiccup with the ankle last week will convince the club to push Edman's return back until the start of the second half. He's been out all season while recovering from wrist surgery. Rotowire.com Today, 9:30 am

    • Day off Thursday
Vaughn is absent from the lineup for Thursday's contest in Cleveland.

Advice: It appears to be a routine day off for Vaughn. The White Sox are giving Gavin Sheets a start at first base while Vaughn gets some rest. Rotowire.com Today, 7:20 am

    • Brewers bolster rotation with Aaron Civale trade
Brewers acquired RHP Aaron Civale from the Rays for SS Gregory Barrios.

Advice: It doesn’t come as a total shock to see another analytically-driven front office rolling the dice on Civale after he spent the first couple seasons of his career in Cleveland and Tampa Bay’s pitching development engines. The 29-year-old righty was phenomenal last year for the Rays following a midseason trade from the Guardians, but his strikeout rate has regressed back to previous level this year and he’s struggled to a pedestrian 5.07 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 84/27 K/BB ratio across 87 innings (17 starts). Even if the strikeouts don’t return, Civale represents an upgrade for Milwaukee’s injury-ravaged starting rotation moving forward, even if it’s a tough landing spot for fantasy purposes from a park factors standpoint. • Swats first homer of season
Marte went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run Wednesday in a 3-2 win against the Yankees.

Advice: Marte produced the bulk of Cincinnati's offense with his two-run blast in the second inning. That was his first hit in five games since going 3-for-5 in his return from an 80-game suspension June 27. Marte is batting .167 overall since being reinstated, collecting four RBI, five runs and two stolen bases across six contests. Rotowire.com Today, 12:28 am

    • Swats 11th homer
Vientos went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run Wednesday in a loss to the Nationals.

Advice: Vientos gave New York a 3-0 lead with his two-run shot in the fourth inning, though Washington rallied late to claim victory. The long ball was Vientos' fifth over his past nine games, and he's also tallied 10 RBI during that span. The third baseman has taken hold of the primary third-base role for the Mets with a strong stat line that includes a .297/.352/.579 slash, 11 home runs, 29 RBI and 26 runs over 159 plate appearances. • Unimpressive in return to majors
Scott surrendered four runs on six hits and two walks while striking out two batters over 5.2 innings in a no-decision versus Washington on Wednesday.

Advice: Scott was called up from Triple-A on Wednesday to log his first big-league start since May 30, but he didn't make much of an impression. The rookie right-hander tied a season-worst mark by allowing four runs, and he struck out a season-low two batters. It was an especially disappointing outcome for Scott after he retired 12 of the first 14 batters he faced -- six of the eight baserunners he allowed came over his final 1.2 frames, and he departed after giving up a three-run homer to Luis Garcia with two outs in the sixth. Despite the overall poor result, there's a good chance Scott will get at least another turn through the rotation with New York not having an off day until the All-Star break and with Tylor Megill recently demoted to the minors. • Two thefts in win
Kim went 1-for-3 with a hit-by-pitch, two stolen bases and one run scored in Wednesday's 6-4 win over the Rangers.

Advice: Kim has hit safely in 10 of his last 11 games, going 12-for-38 (.316) in that span. His pair of steals Wednesday were his first since June 20, and he's up to 18 thefts on 21 attempts this season. The infielder has added a .227/.335/.383 slash line with 10 home runs, 38 RBI, 46 runs scored, 10 doubles and three triples through 88 contests. One of Kim, Luis Arraez, Jake Cronenworth or Donovan Solano is likely to lose hold of an everyday role once Xander Bogaerts (shoulder) returns, which could be in about a week if he can get through a rehab assignment without setbacks. • Noelvi Marte slugs first homer in win over Yankees
Noelvi Marte walloped a two-run homer on Wednesday, powering the Reds to a 3-2 victory over the Yankees.

Advice: Marte kicked off the scoring on Wednesday evening at Yankee Stadium with a 111.5-mph rocket into the left-field seats off New York starter Carlos Rodón in the second inning. It was his first round-tripper in six games since returning from a league-issued 80-game PED suspension back on June 27. The 22-year-old top prospect continues to show flashes of massive fantasy potential, but he’s gotten off to a pretty slow start as he re-acclimates to everyday life in the majors after an extended layoff. It might not all come together this season, but Marte has the skills to be a four-category fantasy monster in the near future. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:09 pm

    • Jeffrey Springs strikes out six in rehab start
Jeffrey Springs (elbow) looked sharp in his latest minor league rehab start at Triple-A Durham on Wednesday, racking up six strikeouts over four scoreless innings.

Advice: The 31-year-old southpaw scattered three hits on the night and didn’t walk a batter. Springs was also efficient in this one, needing just 47 pitches (35 strikes) to navigate his four frames. He’s probably going to need a couple more starts to build up that pitch count before he becomes an option to join the Rays’ rotation, but we could be seeing him shortly after the All-Star break.
