    • A’s place Esteury Ruiz on IL
A’s placed OF Esteury Ruiz on the 10-day injured list with a strained left wrist.

Advice: There was a lot of celebrating in fantasy baseball circles when Ruiz performed well at Triple-A Las Vegas and hit two home runs in his first games after being recalled in April. However, the 25-year-old is hitting just .200/.270/.382 in 29 games this season with two home runs, five steals, and a 31 percent strikeout rate. He has been battling wrist issues throughout the season but also figures to profile as more of a fourth outfielder due to his low batting average and poor outfield defense. Daz Cameron was called up to take his place on the active roster. Rotoworld 23 minutes ago

    • Takes first loss Wednesday
Muller (0-1) took the loss in an extra-innings defeat at the hands of the Rockies on Wednesday, allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits over one inning.

Advice: Muller was entrusted with preserving a 2-2 tie when he entered in the 12th inning, but he faltered almost immediately by giving up a go-ahead two-run home run to Ryan McMahon with inning-opening runner Jake Cave aboard. Oakland would halve its two-run deficit in the home half of the frame but fall short of knotting the score back up, saddling Muller with his first loss. The southpaw sports a respectable 3.94 ERA and 1.18 WHIP, but he's allowed at least one run in nine of his 12 appearances. Rotowire.com 24 minutes ago

    • Goes four innings Wednesday
Gibson allowed three unearned runs on five hits and struck out three without walking a batter over four innings in a no-decision versus the Orioles on Wednesday.

Advice: Gibson exited the contest after a rain delay, and the Cardinals got him off the hook for the loss once play resumed. This was the first time in 10 starts he didn't walk a batter, though he was a little shaky with just 50 of 84 pitches thrown for strikes and one wild pitch in the contest. He's at a 3.81 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 46:23 K:BB over 59 innings this season, and he's allowed more than three runs just three times. Gibson is lined up to make his next start at Cincinnati. • A’s designate Jordan Diaz for assignment
A’s designated INF Jordan Diaz for assignment

Advice: Diaz played in 90 games for Oakland in 2023 but did not make the club out of spring and was hitting just .204/.288/.327 in 29 games in Triple-A with two home runs. He doesn’t play strong enough defense at any position, so he will always need to hit above league average in order to crack an MLB roster. Considering he’s only 23 years old, he figures to get a shot with another club but he needs to improve his defense and conditioning if he is to become an MLB regular. Rotoworld 25 minutes ago

    • Back up from Triple-A
The Pirates recalled Hernandez from Triple-A Indianapolis on Thursday, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Advice: Hernandez has been effective during his time in the Pirates bullpen this season, allowing one run with a 4:3 K:BB over 4.2 innings. The 26-year-old will provide manager Derek Shelton with another left-handed relief option. Rotowire.com 27 minutes ago
    • Bound for Triple-A
The Pirates optioned Suwinski to Triple-A Indianapolis on Thursday.

Advice: The lefty-hitting Suwinski has mostly operated as a strong-side platoon outfielder this season, but even against right-handed pitching, he's struggled to a .144/.256/.261 slash line over 129 plate appearances. The Pirates will send Suwinski to Indianapolis with the hope that he refines his approach and regains some confidence at the plate, but a return to the big leagues likely won't be imminent until he starts producing at Triple-A. In the meantime, Suwinski's absence could reopen more playing time at first base for Rowdy Tellez while Connor Joe takes on more starts out of the corner outfield. Rotowire.com 27 minutes ago

    • Pirates call-up LHP Jose Hernandez from AAA
Pirates recalled reliever Jose Hernandez from Triple-A Indianapolis.

Advice: he Pirates need more depth in their bullpen right now, so Hernandez will take the place of Jack Suwinski, who was optioned on Thursday. The 26-year-old left-hander has a 7.62 ERA across 12 games in Triple-A but has been solid in his limited appearances for the Pirates, registering a 1.93 ERA across 4 2/3 innings. This figures to just be a short-term move for bullpen depth. Rotoworld 29 minutes ago
    • Jack Suwinski sent down the minor leagues
Pirates optioned OF Jack Suwinski to Triple-A Indianapolis.

Advice: It’s a surprising turn of events for the 25-year-old who posted 26 home runs and 13 steals in 144 games in 2023. Suwinski was attempting to make clear changes to his approach in 2024, being more aggressive in the zone as he tried to combat his high called-strike rate from 2023. Unfortunately, that aggressive approach also led to Suwinski swinging more at pitches outside the strike zone, so while his swinging strike rate and strikeout rate went down, his quality of contact also suffered. He had just a .174/.268/.297 slash line with a 6.1 percent barrel rate that was way down from his 15.7 percent mark last year. Perhaps an approach change in the minor leagues will unlock a strong second half for Suwinski as it did for Ke’Bryan Hayes last year. Only, that coach no longer works for the Pirates. • Rejoining rotation
Irvin will re-enter the Orioles' rotation following the injury to John Means (forearm), Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports.

Advice: Each of Irvin's last two appearances have come in relief, but he's been terrific in seven starts this season, collecting a 2.90 ERA and 28:8 K:BB over 40.1 innings of work. Means' next turn comes up Monday in Baltimore against the Red Sox and Irvin would be on regular rest that day after throwing 3.1 relief innings in Wednesday's loss to the Cardinals.
