    • Shane Baz continues to improve in rehab starts
Shane Baz allowed one run on three hits in four innings for Triple-A Durham on Wednesday night.

Advice: More importantly, Baz was up to 76 pitches and induced 14 whiffs in just four innings on the day. He had a 66 percent strike right but his overall command still needs some work, walking three batters and hitting one. His stuff has graded out above-average but command is often the last thing to come back after Tommy John surgery, so we’ll hope that he can iron that out in his next starts. He may have one more rehab start before being activated off his rehab assignment, but we shouldn’t expect more than five innings in his few first outings. Rotoworld 9 minutes ago

    • Earns first career save
Fernandez allowed a run on two hits over one inning to earn the save in Wednesday's 5-4 win over the Orioles. He did not walk or strike out a batter.

Advice: Fernandez allowed a run on a sacrifice fly in the ninth inning, but a baserunning blunder by the Orioles' Cedric Mullins took the tying run off base. The save was Fernandez's first of his career, and he got the opportunity because most of the Cardinals' high-leverage relievers pitched earlier Wednesday to finish off Tuesday's suspended game. The rookie right-hander has done alright in a low-leverage role with a 3.48 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 24:7 K:BB over 20.2 innings while adding one hold and an 0-1 record. He's struggled a little lately with four runs allowed over his last 3.1 innings. Rotowire.com 14 minutes ago
    • Takes first loss Wednesday
Muller (0-1) took the loss in an extra-innings defeat at the hands of the Rockies on Wednesday, allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits over one inning.

Advice: Muller was entrusted with preserving a 2-2 tie when he entered in the 12th inning, but he faltered almost immediately by giving up a go-ahead two-run home run to Ryan McMahon with inning-opening runner Jake Cave aboard. Oakland would halve its two-run deficit in the home half of the frame but fall short of knotting the score back up, saddling Muller with his first loss. The southpaw sports a respectable 3.94 ERA and 1.18 WHIP, but he's allowed at least one run in nine of his 12 appearances. Rotowire.com 17 minutes ago

    • Goes four innings Wednesday
Gibson allowed three unearned runs on five hits and struck out three without walking a batter over four innings in a no-decision versus the Orioles on Wednesday.

Advice: Gibson exited the contest after a rain delay, and the Cardinals got him off the hook for the loss once play resumed. This was the first time in 10 starts he didn't walk a batter, though he was a little shaky with just 50 of 84 pitches thrown for strikes and one wild pitch in the contest. He's at a 3.81 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 46:23 K:BB over 59 innings this season, and he's allowed more than three runs just three times. Gibson is lined up to make his next start at Cincinnati. • Back up from Triple-A
The Pirates recalled Hernandez from Triple-A Indianapolis on Thursday, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Advice: Hernandez has been effective during his time in the Pirates bullpen this season, allowing one run with a 4:3 K:BB over 4.2 innings. The 26-year-old will provide manager Derek Shelton with another left-handed relief option. Rotowire.com 20 minutes ago
    • Pirates call-up LHP Jose Hernandez from AAA
Pirates recalled reliever Jose Hernandez from Triple-A Indianapolis.

Advice: he Pirates need more depth in their bullpen right now, so Hernandez will take the place of Jack Suwinski, who was optioned on Thursday. The 26-year-old left-hander has a 7.62 ERA across 12 games in Triple-A but has been solid in his limited appearances for the Pirates, registering a 1.93 ERA across 4 2/3 innings. This figures to just be a short-term move for bullpen depth. Rotoworld 22 minutes ago
    • Rejoining rotation
Irvin will re-enter the Orioles' rotation following the injury to John Means (forearm), Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports.

Advice: Each of Irvin's last two appearances have come in relief, but he's been terrific in seven starts this season, collecting a 2.90 ERA and 28:8 K:BB over 40.1 innings of work. Means' next turn comes up Monday in Baltimore against the Red Sox and Irvin would be on regular rest that day after throwing 3.1 relief innings in Wednesday's loss to the Cardinals. • Orioles call up reliever Heasley from minors
Orioles recalled reliever Jonathan Heasley from Triple-A Norfolk.

Advice: With John Means landing on the 15-day IL, the Orioles are calling up Heasley to add depth to their bullpen. The 27-year-old has thrown 4 1/3 innings with the Orioles this year and has an unsightly 12.46 ERA; however, he’s been much more effective in Triple-A with a 0.45 ERA and 0.70 WHIP in 20 innings, striking out 18 and walking just four. With Cole Irvin likely to take Means’ place in the rotation, Heasley could give the Orioles length out of the bullpen. Rotoworld 34 minutes ago
    • John Means placed on IL with forearm strain
Orioles placed John Means (forearm strain) on the 15-day IL.

Advice: It’s a sad turn of events for the 31-year-old who seems to be working his way back from arm injuries continuously. He made just four starts this season and left his last one with elbow discomfort. The Orioles have not yet announced the extent of the injury but given that Means has only thrown a combined 31 2/3 innings since 2021, it may be time to make other plans for fantasy leagues. Cole Irvin should move back into the rotation and Jonathan Heasley was called up in a corresponding move. Rotoworld 37 minutes ago
