• Optioned to Triple-A
The Giants optioned Black to Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Black was recalled from Sacramento ahead of Tuesday's contest, but he will now return to the minors without appearing in a game. The 24-year-old right-hander owns an 8.79 ERA and 1.95 WHIP in 14.1 innings with the Giants this season but the lack of depth in San Francisco's rotation could allow him to return to the majors if needed for a spot start. Hayden Birdsong was selected from Triple-A in a corresponding move. Rotowire.com 3 minutes ago

  • Poor control in loss
Gibson (5-3) allowed four runs on four hits and five walks while striking out four over four innings to take the loss versus Atlanta in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader.

Advice: Gibson made his first start since June 14 -- a stint on the bereavement list, a bout of back tightness and a rainout combined to keep him out of game action for 12 days. He wasn't sharp, throwing 50 of 87 pitches for strikes Wednesday, with the five walks being a season high. This was his first loss since April 13 and the first time he's given up more than three runs since May 17. Gibson has a 3.70 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 77:36 K:BB over 87.2 innings across 15 starts this season. He's projected to make his next start at Pittsburgh. Rotowire.com 7 minutes ago

  • Jarred Kelenic goes 3-for-5, homers in Braves’ win
Jarred Kelenic went 3-for-5 with a homer, three RBI and a steal in the Braves’ 6-2 victory over the Cardinals in the first game of Wednesday’s doubleheader.

Advice: We’re still not all in on the Kelenaissance here, but the 24-year-old should continue to offer mixed-league value while leading off regularly for the Braves. The homer today was his eighth in his last 38 games (and eighth in 64 games for the year). Rotoworld 16 minutes ago

  • Kyle Gibson walks five in loss to Braves
Kyle Gibson allowed four runs and walked five in four innings Wednesday in a loss to the Braves.

Advice: The control issues are rather unusual for Gibson — this is the first time in two years that he’s walked five in a game — and one wonders if they might have been related to the back issue that cost him his last start. He dropped to 5-3 with a 3.70 ERA. Rotoworld 16 minutes ago

  • Managing neck issue
Brewers manager Pat Murphy said Ortiz was removed from Wednesday's win over the Rangers due to a neck injury, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinelreports.

Advice: The injury apparently surfaced during last week's series against the Angels, and it prompted his removal from Wednesday's contest in the sixth inning after going 0-for-2. Ortiz's ability to play through the issue indicates it isn't a serious concern, so he could be back in action Friday versus the Cubs following Thursday's team off day. Rotowire.com 32 minutes ago

  • Freddy Fermin plates two in win over Marlins
Freddy Fermin went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI on Wednesday, lifting the Royals to a 5-1 comeback win over the Marlins.

Advice: Fermin capped off Kansas City’s five-run explosion in the eighth inning with a two-run single off Marlins reliever JT Chargois. The 29-year-old backstop has really turned it on lately, batting .341 (30-for-88) with three homers and 16 RBI over his last 30 games. Rotoworld 36 minutes ago

  • Nick Fortes plates lone run in loss to Royals
Nick Fortes delivered an RBI single on Wednesday in the Marlins’ loss to the Royals.

Advice: Fortes’ second-inning single off Royals starter Brady Singer accounted for their lone tally on Wednesday afternoon in a low-scoring showdown at Kauffman Stadium. The 27-year-old backstop boasts a .419 OPS with two homers in 157 plate appearances over 58 games this season. Rotoworld 36 minutes ago

  • Done for season
France will undergo season-ending surgery on his right shoulder Monday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Shoulder problems have kept France on the injured list at Triple-A Sugar Land since early May, and he suffered a setback in his recovery Sunday. Rather than pausing and restarting his throwing program, the 29-year-old right-hander will instead go under the knife to address the issue, putting an early end to his season. He'll finish with a 7.46 ERA and 1.70 WHIP through 25.1 innings over five major-league starts, and a timeline for his return will likely come following his procedure. Rotowire.com 40 minutes ago

  • Jake Bauers delivers grand slam in Brewers’ win
Jake Bauers hit a grand slam off Nathan Eovaldi as the Brewers edged the Rangers 6-5 in 10 innings Wednesday.

Advice: Midgame replacement Andruw Monasterio delivered the game-winning single in the bottom of the 10th. It was a little surprising to see Bauers start over Tyler Black today, but Pat Murphy seems to have made the right call. Bauers’ 444-foot slam was the first ever surrendered by Eovaldi. It was the second of his career, and his seventh homer in 192 plate appearances this season. Rotoworld 43 minutes ago
