  • Eduardo Rodriguez heading for follow-up MRI
Eduardo Rodriguez (lat) will undergo another follow-up MRI exam on July 6.

Advice: If all goes well with that exam, it sounds like the 31-year-old southpaw will finally be cleared to resume throwing off of a mound. Once that’s done, he’ll need several sessions off the mound before facing live hitters and then several minor league rehab starts before he’s ready to join the Diamondbacks’ rotation. It seems optimistic to expect him back anytime before the beginning of August. Rotoworld 27 minutes ago
  • MRI set for July 6
Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Friday that Rodriguez (shoulder) is scheduled for a follow-up MRI on July 6, Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com reports.

Advice: Rodriguez extended his throwing program out to 105 feet earlier in June, and Lovullo noted that the southpaw could start throwing off the mound depending on the results of the MRI. Rodriguez has been out all season after straining his left shoulder in spring training, and his initial throwing program was shut down in April due to shoulder tightness. Rotowire.com 36 minutes ago
  • Still not throwing
Williams (elbow) has yet to start a throwing program, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

Advice: Williams was placed on the 15-day IL on June 4 with a right flexor strain but remains shut down from throwing. It's safe to assume Williams won't be able to return until after the All-Star break. DJ Herz should continue to make starts in place of Williams. Rotowire.com 54 minutes ago
  • Alex Cobb (shoulder) to make rehab start on Sunday
Alex Cobb (shoulder) will make his first minor league rehab start at Single-A San Jose on Sunday.

Advice: The 36-year-old hurler has missed the entire season thus far while recovering from a shoulder injury. He’s going to need several minor league rehab starts to build back up before he’s an option to join the Giants’ rotation, but it’s nice to see him finally taking strides in that direction. • Pirates activate Martin Pérez for Friday return
Pirates activated LHP Martin Pérez from the 15-day injured list.

Advice: The 33-year-old southpaw will return to the Pirates’ rotation on Friday night against the Braves. Prior to landing on the injured list at the end of May with a left groin strain, Pérez had registered an underwhelming 4.71 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and a 46/19 K/BB ratio across 57 1/3 innings through his first 11 starts. He’s certainly not a recommended streaming option against a powerful Braves’ offense in his first start back off the injured list. Rotoworld Today, 1:45 pm
  • Officially activated
Perez (groin) was reinstated from the 15-day injured list and will start Friday's game against Atlanta.

Advice: Perez has been shelved since May 28 due to a strained left groin and after making one rehab start, he'll rejoin the big-league club and start Friday's game. In his lone minor-league appearance, Perez threw 63 pitches, so he'll likely be on a pitch count Friday. Prior to the injury, Perez owned a 4.71 ERA across 57.1 innings with Pittsburgh. • Padres transfer Joe Musgrove to 60-day IL
Padres transferred RHP Joe Musgrove to the 60-day injured list.

Advice: Nothing has changed in the prognosis for the 31-year-old hurler, this was done as a procedural move to free up a spot on the team’s 40-man roster for Austin Davis to join the bullpen on Friday. Musgrove continues to recover from a bone spur in his right elbow and has been throwing off of flat ground in recent days. Rotoworld Today, 1:15 pm
  • Moved to 60-day IL
Musgrove (elbow) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Friday.

Advice: Transferring Musgrove to the 60-day IL opens up a spot on the 40-man roster for Austin Davis, who'll join the big-league roster. Though Musgrove began playing catch Monday, he still has plenty of checkpoints to hi before being cleared and likely won't be back in action until after the All-Star break. • Shifted to 60-day IL
Matz (back) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Friday.

Advice: The Cardinals had to clear up a spot on the 40-man roster for Gordon Graceffo to be called up and opted to push Matz to the 60-day IL to create the opening. Considering Matz was put on the injured list May 3, his move to the 60-day injured list won't impact his timeline for return. The 33-year-old was shut down from throwing for two weeks June 22.
