• Early exit in Saturday's loss
Pallante (2-3) took the loss Saturday, giving up two runs (one earned) on five hits over 3.1 innings as the Cardinals were downed 5-1 by the Cubs. He struck out four without walking a batter.

Advice: The right-hander didn't pitch badly, blanking Chicago through three innings, but Pallante got lifted after 59 pitches (40 strikes) with two runners on base in the fourth and had to watch Chris Roycroft let them both come around to score. Pallante has been effective in three of four outings since moving into the rotation, posting a 3.64 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 15:7 K:BB through 17.1 innings over that stretch. He lines up to make his next start at home next week against the Giants. Rotowire.com 6 minutes ago

  • Could resume throwing soon
Padres manager Mike Shildt said Friday that Musgrove (elbow) is getting closer to picking up a ball and starting a throwing program, per MLB.com.

Advice: Musgrove was diagnosed with a bone spur in his right elbow in early June and consequently received PRP and cortisone injections. While Shildt said Friday that the veteran pitcher could resume throwing soon, he didn't give specifics on a timeline. Given that Musgrove dealt with a similar injury in May, the Padres are unlikely to rush him back, and he's probably at least a month away from a return. Rotowire.com 19 minutes ago

  • Two rehab starts required
Clevinger (elbow) is expected to make two starts at Triple-A Charlotte before returning to the White Sox during a seven-game homestand that begins June 24, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Clevinger is lined up for starts with Charlotte on Tuesday and June 23 and is expected to join the White Sox in the days after his June 23 outing. The 33-year-old was placed on the IL with right elbow inflammation May 28 but has been facing batters since June 7. Once healthy, Clevinger is expected to knock Jonathan Cannon or Drew Thorpe out of the rotation. Rotowire.com 23 minutes ago

  • Flaherty pitches well through back injury
Jack Flaherty threw five scoreless innings in a win over the Astros on Saturday, allowing three hits and striking out six.

Advice: Flaherty received an anti-inflammatory injection on Monday and had a few extra days of rest to combat a back injury, but he looked good overall on Saturday. His four-seam velocity was down 1.5 mph, so that’s something to keep an eye on, but he induced eight whiffs on 31 swings for a 26 percent whiff rate and 32 percent CSW. He needed just 73 pitches to get through five innings and sets up for a great spot next week against the White Sox. Rotoworld 24 minutes ago

  • Tosses bullpen session
Darvish (groin) threw a bullpen session Friday, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Advice: Darvish simulated three innings in the session, tossing 60 pitches. The veteran hurler said before throwing the bullpen that he expects the session to be sufficient ramp-up to allow him to return to the Padres' rotation without a rehab assignment. Per Acee, Darvish could start a game during San Diego's homestand against Milwaukee that begins next Thursday. Rotowire.com 26 minutes ago

  • Spencer Arrighetti roughed up by Tigers
Spencer Arrighetti allowed seven runs on five hits in 1 1/3 innings in a loss to the Tigers on Saturday.

Advice: The Astros moved Arrighetti’s start up a day when Justin Verlander was scratched with an injury and that may have been the wrong move. The 24-year-old had allowed just two earned runs over 14 2/3 innings in his last three starts and had a 15.3 percent K-BB rate and 11.4 percent swinging strike rate over his last four starts. Yet, nothing worked for him on Saturday. He couldn’t find the plate with anything other than his cutter and induced just three whiffs on 20 swings for a 15 percent whiff rate and 23 percent CSW. It’s possible the late change in schedule threw him off, but whatever it was, he remains off the streaming radar next week against the Orioles. Rotoworld 28 minutes ago
  • Approaching rehab assignment
Yankees manager Aaron Boone stated early this week that Brubaker (elbow) is "getting ready to go out on an assignment," per MLB.com.

Advice: Brubaker is over 14 months removed from Tommy John surgery and has been throwing to live hitters for about five weeks. The 30-year-old hasn't pitched in a game since the 2022 season, so he'll presumably need a rehab assignment consisting of several starts. Brubaker could be ready to join the big-league club around the All-Star break, but given the success of the team's starting staff thus far and the impending return of Gerrit Cole (elbow), there doesn't appear to be room in the rotation for Brubaker at the moment. • Patrick Sandoval gives up three runs in no-decision
Patrick Sandoval allowed three runs with five strikeouts over five innings in a no-decision against the Giants on Saturday.

Advice: Sandoval served up a two-run homer to Heliot Ramos in the first inning. He settled in to toss three scoreless frames before Ramos got to him in the fifth, bringing a run home to score on a double. Sandoval would be done after five innings at 98 pitches, striking out five. The 27-year-old left-hander will take a 5.24 ERA, 1.50 WHIP, and an 80/33 K/BB ratio across 77 1/3 innings into a road start against the Dodgers on Friday. Rotoworld Today, 3:51 pm
  • Keaton Winn strikes out six in no-decision vs. Angels
Keaton Winn allowed three runs with six strikeouts over six innings in a no-decision against the Angels on Saturday.

Advice: Winn worked around a double in the first inning, then gave up a solo homer to Mickey Moniak in the second. Winn was hurt by the long ball again in the sixth, serving up a two-run homer to Logan O’Hoppe that tied the game. He’d be done after six with six strikeouts. The 26-year-old right-hander will take a 6.66 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, and a 46/19 K/BB ratio across 52 2/3 innings into a start against the Cardinals in St. Louis on Thursday. Rotoworld Today, 3:50 pm
