      Advice: The steal was his first of the year, after he'd swiped 30 over the prior two seasons combined. Hayes missed most of May with back trouble, which could help explain his lack of activity on the basepaths, and Friday's single was his first hit of any kind since May 5. The third baseman has a disappointing .237/.318/.311 slash line through 36 games with one homer and 12 RBI, but if he can stay healthy he's capable of heating up over the summer.       Luis Robert Jr. (hip) went 0-for-5 with two strikeouts on Friday in a minor league rehab contest for Triple-A Charlotte.

      Advice: Robert has gone 1-for-12 with a home run in three games for Triple-A Charlotte on his rehab assignment. There’s optimism that he’ll be ready to return early next week, but he’s going to get a couple more minor-league games under his belt this weekend to continue knocking off the rust.       Marte went 2-for-4 with a triple, four RBI, a run scored and a walk in Friday's win over the Diamondbacks.

      Advice: Marte ripped a bases-clearing triple in the first inning and followed it up with an RBI single in the fourth. After a 3-for-19 slump over nine games, he closed out May with three straight multi-hit performances.       Montgomery (3-3) yielded eight runs (six earned) on nine hits and three walks over four innings Friday, striking out four and taking a loss against the Mets.

      Advice: Montgomery had a 3-0 lead before taking the mound Friday but quickly squandered it by coughing up four runs in the bottom of the first inning. He allowed another run in the second and three more in the fourth. After producing a pair of quality starts in his first two outings with Arizona, Montgomery has registered a rough 6.61 ERA over his last six starts.       Yelich went 5-for-6 with a stolen base, two doubles, five RBI and one run scored in Friday's win against the White Sox.

      Advice: Yelich collected his first five-hit game of 2024 and fifth of his career, achieving the feat for the first time since Aug. 17, 2019. The former MVP has been resurgent since returning from a back injury May 8, hitting .321 (25-for-78) with one homer, six stolen bases, 16 RBI and 14 runs scored.       Wacha was wearing a walking boot on his left foot following Friday's loss to the Padres, Pete Grathoff of The Kansas City Star reports.

      Advice: Wacha took a 90-mph line drive off his left foot during the first at-bat of Friday's contest. He was able to remain in the game and pitch 5.1 innings of two-run ball while logging two strikeouts, but it's obvious his shot to the foot has bothered him. The 32-year-old right-hander said after the game that he will undergo imaging Saturday, at which point he and the Royals will have a better idea as to how severe the damage is.     • William Contreras picks up three hits in easy win
      William Contreras picked up three hits and drove in a run in a win Friday over the White Sox.

      Advice: Contreras, 26, also scored twice. The Brewers were able to reach 23 times via hit and six times on walks, and somewhat amazingly none of those hits went over the fence.
