• Sent back to minors
The Royals optioned Klein to Triple-A Omaha on Monday.

Advice: Klein struck out two in a scoreless inning Sunday versus the Tigers in what was his major-league debut. He eventually has a chance to play an important role in the Royals' bullpen this season, but for now Klein will head back to Omaha to make room for Monday's starter, Jonathan Bowlan. • Called up for Monday's start
The Royals recalled Bowlan from Triple-A Omaha ahead of his scheduled start Monday in Toronto.

Advice: Kansas City optioned right-handed reliever Will Klein to Triple-A to clear a spot on the 26-man active roster for Bowlan, who will be joining the rotation as a replacement for the injured Alec Marsh (elbow). Bowlan had covered at least five innings in each of his last three starts with Omaha and owns a 2.57 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 21:5 K:BB across 21 frames at the Triple-A level for the season. • Cooper activated to Red Sox roster
Red Sox activated 1B Garrett Cooper to their active roster.

Advice: Cooper was acquired from the Cubs for cash over the weekend and looks likely to make his Red Sox debut on Tuesday. The Red Sox were interested in signing Cooper as a free agent in the offseason and then after Triston Casas went down with an injury, their interest became even more intense. Cooper was having a solid start to the regular season in Chicago, slashing .270/.341/.432 with a homer and six RBI. There’s a good chance that he is the everyday first baseman in Boston until Casas returns in two or more months. Pablo Reyes was designated for assignment to make room for Cooper. • Pablo Reyes designated for assignment
Red Sox have designated INF Pablo Reyes for assignment.

Advice: The Red Sox needed to make a move to the active roster in order to make room for recently acquired Garrett Cooper. With Ceddanne Rafaela now a full-time infielder and Vaughn Grissom on his way back from the injured list, Reyes was less needed in Boston. The 30-year-old is hitting .183/.234/.217 in 64 plate appearances with five RBI and one steal. There is a chance that he latches on with somebody else as versatile infield depth. • Exits 40-man roster
The Red Sox designated Reyes for assignment Monday.

Advice: Boston needed to clear a spot on their 26-man active roster and 40-man roster for first baseman/designated hitter Garrett Cooper, and Reyes ended up being the casualty. Reyes slashed a solid .287/.339/.377 for Boston last season but has managed just a .183/.234/.217 batting line over 61 plate appearances in 2024. Teams are always looking for versatile players, so even with his poor start, Reyes could draw some interest via trade or waivers. Rotowire.com 43 minutes ago

  • Steals home Sunday
Vargas went 2-for-5 with a double, a run scored and a stolen base in Sunday's win over the Marlins.

Advice: With one out in the sixth inning, Vargas cracked a double off Bruch Smith, advanced to third on a single, then raced home as part of a double steal with Trey Lipscomb. Vargas got the start at second base Sunday with lefty Ryan Weathers on the mound for Miami, and a short-side platoon role at the keystone might be all that's available for the 32-year-old utility player right now with Lipscomb, Nick Senzel and Luis Garcia all producing at the plate. Vargas has been making an impact of his own when he gets the chance though, slashing .304/.396/.413 through 53 plate appearances with two steals, four RBI and five runs. Rotowire.com 51 minutes ago

  • Three runs in comeback win
Lipscomb went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and a stolen base in Sunday's win over the Marlins.

Advice: Getting the start at third base and batting sixth, Lipscomb played a big role as the Nationals made a stunning comeback from an early 7-0 deficit, eventually winning 12-9. The rookie has been getting consistent playing time since returning to the majors April 24, and he's responded with three straight multi-hit performances to boost his slash line on the season to .292/.356/.354 with one homer, five steals, four RBI and 13 runs in 73 plate appearances. Lipscomb has started all three of those games at third base, while Nick Senzel handles DH duties and Jesse Winker moves to left field. Expect the Nats to continue finding room for Lipscomb in the lineup as long as he's swinging a hot bat. Rotowire.com 58 minutes ago
  • Records win Sunday
Law (2-1) picked up the win in Sunday's comeback victory over the Marlins, pitching two scoreless innings and allowing two hits. He struck out three without walking a batter.

Advice: Patrick Corbin got chased after coughing up seven runs (four earned) in four innings, but Law steadied the ship in the fifth and sixth and watched the Nationals offense come to life, erasing a 7-0 deficit. The 33-year-old right-hander remains in a low-leverage role, but he's pitched reasonable well to begin the season with a 3.00 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 19:6 K:BB through 18 innings. • Reaches 200 career homers
Alonso went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Saturday's loss to the Cardinals.

Advice: His blast in the fifth inning off Sonny Gray capped the scoring for the Mets in an eventual 7-4 loss. It was Alonso's 200th career homer, putting him in very select company -- only Darryl Strawberry, David Wright and Mike Piazza have also reached that milestone in a Mets uniform. Alonso has played in every game this season for New York, slashing .248/.336/.505 over 27 contests with eight home runs, 14 RBI and 20 runs scored. Rotowire.com Today, 7:50 am
