    • Hunter Greene strikes out six, walks five in loss
Hunter Greene surrendered three runs in five innings with six strikeouts in a no-decision Thursday versus the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Greene allowed four hits, but he also issued five walks with 40-of-84 pitches landing outside of the strike zone. The right-hander had his swing-and-miss stuff, and he was able to work around those free passes with a scoreless second-through-fifth inning. The free passes hurt the WHIP, but this start coulda been a lot worse. Greene gets a rematch with Arizona next week. Rotoworld Today, 1:28 pm

    • Stellar in non-save scenario
Miller fired two perfect innings during which he recorded four strikeouts in the first game of a doubleheader against the Rangers on Wednesday.

Advice: Miller had last taken the hill May 1, so manager Mark Kotsay opted to give his closer some much-needed work with the Athletics up by five runs. The extended layoff didn't seem to faze Miller in the least, as he located 24 of 32 pitches for strikes in a relatively efficient showing. The hard-throwing right-hander lowered his ERA and WHIP to 1.10 and 0.67, respectively, in the process, and with the Athletics much more competitive than expected thus far, Miller's prospects for save opportunities over the long term are brighter than when the season began, despite the recent stretch of inactivity. • Solid in second win
Montgomery (2-2) picked up the win Wednesday, allowing two runs on seven hits and two walks over seven innings in a 4-3 victory over the Reds. He struck out two.

Advice: While he again wasn't dominant, Montgomery worked seven frames for the second time in four starts since joining the Arizona rotation and delivered his third quality start. The veteran southpaw will take a 4.70 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 10:6 K:BB through 23 innings into his next outing, which lines up for a home rematch with Cincinnati early next week. • Lifts fourth homer Wednesday
Garver went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in a loss to the Twins on Wednesday.

Advice: Garver's fourth-inning solo shot to right field put the Mariners on the board and served as his third time leaving the yard in the last 11 contests. Garver has also reached safely in six consecutive games, perhaps a sign he's finally beginning to work out of the extended slump that's defined the first month-plus of his tenure in Seattle. • Mitch Garver slugs solo homer in loss to Twins
Mitch Garver went 2-for-3 with a solo homer and a walk against the Twins on Wednesday.

Advice: After drawing a walk in the second inning, Garver put the Mariners on the board in the fourth with a solo homer off Chris Paddack, extending his hitting streak to five games. He added a base hit in the sixth for his second hit of the day. The 33-year-old slugger is slashing .181/.290/.352 with four homers and 10 RBI across 124 plate appearances. • Montgomery goes seven strong in victory over Reds
Jordan Montgomery delivered a strong performance in Wednesday night’s victory over the Reds, allowing just two runs on seven hits over his seven frames.

Advice: The 31-year-old southpaw walked two and struck out two batters on the evening. The Reds pushed a run across in the second inning on a run-scoring single by Stuart Fairchild, then added another on an RBI double by Jeimer Candelario in the fourth. That was the extent of the damage. Montgomery got 10 swings and misses on 95 pitches on the night, registering a CSW of 29 percent. Now 2-2 on the season, he’ll look to further improve upon his 4.70 ERA and 1.30 WHIP when he takes on these same Reds at home on Monday. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:38 pm
    • Throws off mound Wednesday
Rodriguez (shoulder) threw 15 pitches off the mound Wednesday, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports.

Advice: It's the first time Rodriguez has thrown off a mound since he landed on the 15-day injured list a week ago with right shoulder inflammation. The hope is that the right-hander will be ready to go when his 15 days are up, but he still has some hurdles to clear in order to make that a reality. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:26 pm

    • Alex Bregman dropped to sixth in Astros lineup
Alex Bregman has been dropped to sixth in the Astros’ starting lineup for Wednesday night’s battle against Carlos Rodon and the Yankees.

Advice: It’s the first time all season that the slumping third baseman has hit lower than fourth in the Astros’ lineup. That’s what happens when you hit .195/.275/.260 with just one homer and 11 RBI through your first 138 plate appearances. Jeremy Pena will move up into the cleanup spot in the order with Jon Singleton batting fifth for the Astros on Wednesday evening. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:14 pm

    • Mets-Cardinals postponed Wednesday
Quintana and the Mets won't face the Cardinals on Wednesday after the game was postponed due to inclement weather in St. Louis, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The two teams will make up the game Aug. 5. Assuming Quintana wasn't too overtaxed from his warmup prior to Wednesday's game being postponed, he could have his next start pushed back to Friday's series opener versus Atlanta following Thursday's team off day.
