• Houck allows two earned runs as Red Sox top Jays
Tanner Houck allowed two earned runs over 5 2/3 innings in Tuesday’s win over the Blue Jays.

Advice: Houck gave up two runs in the second after Ernie Clement laced a double to right to give the Blue Jays their first runs of the night. He would be pulled in the sixth after an RBI single by Isiah Kine-Falefa, but things could’ve been much worse for Houck, who allowed nine baserunners on the evening while throwing 103 pitches. He’s allowed three earned runs or less in 14 of his 15 starts on the season and is scheduled to face the Jays in his next start, which comes on Monday. Rotoworld Today, 7:32 pm

  • Bryce Miller survives in win over Guardians
Bryce Miller allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits in 5 2/3 innings in a win over the Guardians on Tuesday.

Advice: Miller walked two and struck out two on the day. He had just six whiffs on 43 swings on the day, leading to a 14 percent whiff rate and 22 percent CSW on the day. The only pitch Miller recorded a whiff on all day was his fastball with his other pitches getting zero whiffs on 16 combined swings. The 25-year-old has a solid 3.46 ERA on the year, but the secondaries have yet to develop in a way that gives us confidence in his swing-and-miss upside this season. He remains a solid fantasy option and should be in for a good start against the Marlins this weekend, but it may take a pitch mix change to unlock the strikeouts that will give him a higher fantasy ceiling. • McKenzie can’t escape third inning in loss
Triston McKenzie allowed four runs on three hits in 2 1/3 while walking four and striking out nobody in a loss to the Mariners.

Advice: This is now the fifth straight subpar start for McKenzie, who had an uptick in velocity tonight but saw no benefit from it. We know he’s pitching through an injury, and he’s just clearly not healthy when he’s out there on the mound right now. He didn’t throw a single slider in the strike zone tonight and had just a 40 percent zone rate overall. With Gavin Williams on the way back, you have to wonder if McKenzie might be in jeopardy of losing his spot in the rotation. He’ll take a 4.48 ERA into an okay matchup against the Blue Jays this weekend, but he’s simply tough to trust right now. Rotoworld Today, 7:20 pm

  • Albert Suárez struggles in loss to Yankees
Albert Suárez allowed three earned runs over 3 2/3 innings while striking out three in Tuesday’s loss to the Yankees.

Advice: Suárez got through the first inning unscathed but ran into trouble in the second inning after a one-out walk to Gleyber Torres. Austin Wells would double in the following at-bat and was eventually driven in by an Anthony Volpe double. He would get out of the jam with just the one run allowed but kicked off the third inning by hitting Aaron Judge with a pitch and allowing a long single to Alex Verdugo. Giancarlo Stanton would then single to drive home Judge. Suárez wouldn’t make it out of the fourth inning after being pulled with two outs following a walk to Stanton. Suárez walked a season-high five batters in this one. He’ll look to bounce back in his next start, which is set for Sunday against the Astros. Rotoworld Today, 7:18 pm

  • Nestor Cortes blanks O’s for six innings in win
Nestor Cortes pitched six scoreless innings while striking out six to earn the win on Tuesday against the Orioles.

Advice: Cortes needed 25 pitches to get through the first inning, thanks in part to back-to-back singles by Adley Rutschman and Ryan Mountcastle. He would eventually settle in to pitch six scoreless innings without walking a batter. The five hits Cortes allowed all came on singles as he did everything within reason to hold a powerful Orioles lineup in check. Cortes has been feisty at home all season and draws another home start on Sunday against the Braves. Rotoworld Today, 7:16 pm

  • Nick Lodolo tremendous in win over PIT
Nick Lodolo allowed one run on four hits in seven innings in a win over the Pirates on Tuesday.

Advice: The left-hander struck out eight and didn’t walk a single batter on the day. He got 18 whiffs on 50 swings for a 36 percent whiff rate and 32 percent CSW on the day. He did a good job keeping his fastball upstairs and the curve low in the zone, which led to a 57 percent whiff rate on the curve alone. Lodolo has always showcased high upside but injuries have gotten in his way; yet, he now has a 2.76 ERA on the year with a good start against these same Pirates next week. • Falter takes tough luck loss on Tuesday
Bailey Falter allowed two runs on seven hits in seven innings in a loss to the Reds on Tuesday.

Advice: Falter’s only real mistake was a two-run home run to Santiago Espinal in the fifth inning. He didn’t miss many bats with just three strikeouts on a 16 percent whiff rate, but he pounded the strike zone with all four pitches to post a 29 percent CSW. Falter is not an overpowering pitcher, but he can mix and match his pitch mix well, which has led to a 3.74 ERA on the season. He’ll see these same Reds next week but in Cincinnati, which makes it tough to recommend starting him. Rotoworld Today, 7:02 pm

  • Schwellenbach strikes out 7 in win over Tigers
Spencer Schwellenbach allowed one earned run over six innings while picking up the win on Tuesday’s against the Tigers.

Advice: Schwellenbach turned in his best performance of the season on Tuesday to earn his first career win. In addition to striking out a season-high seven batters, Schwellenbach also allowed just one run on three hits — both season-bests. The rookie has now allowed three earned runs in his last 12 innings pitched and has a 10:4 strikeout-to-walk ratio over that span. Schwellenbach is scheduled to make his next start on Monday against the Cardinals. Rotoworld Today, 6:55 pm
  • Mize allows two runs, hit with loss vs. Braves
Casey Mize pitched four innings while allowing two runs on five hits in the Tigers’ loss to the Braves on Tuesday.

Advice: Mize surrendered two runs in the first inning, with the first coming on an RBI triple by Ozzie Albies. It would be the only two runs he’d surrender in the outing, but some long innings resulted in 87 pitches over four frames despite him not walking a batter. Still in search of his first win since April, Mize will look to secure his second win in his next start, which comes on Monday against a stout Phillies lineup. Rotoworld Today, 6:47 pm
