• Mason Miller silences Pirates in non-save spot
Mason Miller fired a perfect ninth inning on Wednesday in a non-save situation against the Pirates.

Advice: Miller got the call to protect a four-run lead in the final frame after needing 16 pitches to close out Tuesday’s victory less than 24 hours ago. He got Jack Suwinski to ground out and fanned Henry Davis before coaxing a game-ending ground out from Ke’Bryan Hayes. He averaged 100.8 mph on his fastball and needed just 10 pitches to spin a perfect frame. The hard-throwing 25-year-old righty has reeled off 12 consecutive scoreless appearances and has converted eight saves to go along with a microscopic 1.26 ERA, 0.77 WHIP and 29/4 K/BB ratio across 14 1/3 innings of work this season. • Ross Stripling spins six shutout frames vs. Pirates
Ross Stripling fired six shutout innings on Wednesday in a win over the Pirates.

Advice: Stripling certainly wasn’t overpowering, mustering only a pair of strikeouts, but he managed to keep Pittsburgh’s lineup off balance with his five-pitch mix. He also consistently filled up the zone, throwing 58 of 79 pitches for strikes, and didn’t hand out a free pass in one of his better outings of the year. He’s allowed three earned runs or fewer in four consecutive starts since April 15, but the lack of strikeouts limits his streaming appeal almost exclusively to deeper mixed leagues. He’ll take a serviceable 4.24 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 27/8 K/BB ratio across 40 1/3 innings (seven starts) into a challenging home matchup on Tuesday against the Rangers. Rotoworld 11 minutes ago

  • Quinn Priester tosses six frames in loss to A’s
Quinn Priester struck out three and was charged with three runs (two earned) over six innings on Wednesday in a loss to the Athletics.

Advice: Priester managed to avoid a blow-up frame, limiting Oakland’s lackluster lineup to single runs in the second, third and fifth innings, respectively, despite giving up five hits and also handing out four free passes. He struggled to find the zone, throwing just 59 of 97 pitches for strikes, and was burned by a pair of solo shots from Abraham Toro and Tyler Nevin, which was enough to saddled him with a loss. He’s pitched well in a handful of starts this season and will bring a respectable 3.31 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 11/6 K/BB ratio across 16 1/3 innings (three starts) into another favorable matchup on Tuesday at home against the Angels. • Shohei Ohtani gets breather on Wednesday
Shohei Ohtani is not in the Dodgers’ starting lineup for Wednesday evening’s showdown against the Diamondbacks.

Advice: It’s a rare and well-deserved day off for the superstar slugger. Will Smith will function as the Dodgers designated hitter on Wednesday while Austin Barnes does the catching against Jordan Montgomery and the D’Backs. Rotoworld 24 minutes ago

  • Receiving first day off
Ohtani is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Advice: It hasn't been reported that Ohtani is dealing with any type of injury, so he's presumably just receiving his first rest day of the season. Ohtani still has a 1.017 OPS on the campaign but has gone 5-for-26 over the past six games, and Thursday's team off day will provide a chance for two straight days to reset. Will Smith will rest his legs as the designated hitter while Austin Barnes starts behind the plate. Rotowire.com 25 minutes ago

  • Seth Lugo holds Jays to one run, earns fifth win
Seth Lugo pitched seven innings of one-run ball in defeating the Blue Jays on Wednesday.

Advice: Lugo fanned eight today, giving him 17 strikeouts in his last two outings. He totaled just 14 in his first five starts of the year, so this is a big improvement. That he opened up 3-0 with a 1.05 ERA looked like a fluke, given where his stuff was at, but these last two wins have seemed quite a bit more legitimate. Rotoworld 28 minutes ago

  • Chris Bassitt gives up three-run homer in ldefeat
Chris Bassitt surrendered three runs in six innings Wednesday in a loss to the Royals.

Advice: Bassitt actually had a no-hitter going until the sixth, when the Royals mustered two singles and two doubles to take a 3-0 lead. The results will likely be there eventually, but the loss today leaves him 2-5 with a 5.45 ERA. Rotoworld 28 minutes ago

  • Jose Urquidy (forearm) throws live bullpen session
Jose Urquidy (forearm) threw a live bullpen session on Wednesday without any issues.

Advice: The right-handed threw around 30 pitches during the session which went very well according to Astros’ skipper Joe Espada. He’ll repeat the process again in a few days and then progress to a minor league rehab assignment. Rotoworld 34 minutes ago

  • Diamondbacks recall Blake Walston from Triple-A
Diamondbacks recalled LHP Blake Walston from Triple-A Reno.

Advice: It’s the first trip to the big leagues for the 22-year-old southpaw. He’ll add depth and length to a Diamondbacks’ bullpen in need of both at the moment. Andrew Saalfrank was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move. Rotoworld 46 minutes ago
