• Red Sox place Masataka Yoshida on 10-day IL
Red Sox placed OF Masataka Yoshida on the 10-day injured list with a left hand injury.

Advice: The 30-year-old was held out of Tuesday’s lineup with the injury and is going to miss at least a couple of weeks while recovering. No word yet on the corresponding move, but it sounds like Dominic Smith’s deal could be finalized before first pitch on Wednesday and he could jump right onto the active roster. • Astros recall Trey Cabbage from Triple-A
Astros recalled OF Trey Cabbage from Triple-A Sugar Land.

Advice: As anticipated, Cabbage will take the roster spot vacated by the recently-demoted Jose Abreu. The 26-year-old outfielder was off to a nice start at Triple-A Sugar Land — slashing .271/.440/.486 with three homers, nine RBI, seven stolen bases and a 29/21 K/BB ratio over 91 plate appearances. He could be an interesting fantasy option in AL-only and deeper mixed leagues if he works his way into regular playing time with the Astros. Rotoworld 13 minutes ago

  • Begins serving suspension Wednesday
Siri's (thigh) had his three-game suspension reduced to two games following an appeal and began serving the ban in Wednesday's 7-1 loss to the Brewers, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Advice: Siri was handed the suspension as a result of his role in Tuesday's bench-clearing brawl with the Brewers. He ended up being held out of the lineup Wednesday with a sore left thigh, and that game will count toward his time served for the suspension. He'll serve the final game of his suspension Friday against the Mets, but he should be ready to play Saturday, assuming the thigh issue isn't still presenting complications for him. • Matt Vierling homers, knocks in three runs
Matt Vierling went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer and a sac fly against the Cardinals on Wednesday.

Advice: The homer was on a truly awful curveball from Miles Mikolas. That was the third hardest-hit ball of the game. His first-inning single was the second hardest at 109.9 mph, trailing only a Willson Contreras homer. Vierling has always shown ample power, but he’s lifting the ball more often this year and he’s off to a nice start at .282/.311/.447. The Tigers will likely want to keep him in the lineup regularly after Gio Urshela returns. Rotoworld 25 minutes ago

  • Filling in for Trout in CF
Moniak will start in center field and bat eighth in Wednesday's game against the Phillies, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Advice: Moniak will get a second straight start in center field after going 1-for-4 with an RBI in Tuesday's 7-5 loss. Despite entering Wednesday's contest with a .150/.203/.217 slash line through 64 plate appearances on the season, Moniak could have a fairly long leash in center field while Mike Trout (knee) is likely headed for an extended absence as he recovers from meniscus surgery. • Dealing with knee injury
Buxton's removal from Wednesday's game against the White Sox was due to right knee soreness, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Buxton tweaked his knee on a stolen base attempt in the second inning of Wednesday's contest. It's the same knee that he's had surgery on twice, with the most recent operation occurring last October. It's not clear at this point how big of a setback this could be, but the Twins could offer more detail on Buxton's condition after the game. Rotowire.com 50 minutes ago

  • Byron Buxton dealing with right knee soreness
Twins announced Byron Buxton is dealing with right knee soreness after he exited Wednesday’s game.

Advice: Phew. It appears Buxton avoided any significant injury after he attempted to steal second base and came off the field in pain. Buxton can be considered day-to-day for the time being. Rotoworld 55 minutes ago

  • Heads to bench Wednesday
Santander is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Yankees.

Advice: Santander will get a breather after he had started each of Baltimore's last 13 games while posting an .886 OPS. The 29-year-old isn't at any risk of losing hold of an everyday role, but he'll cede his spot in the lineup Wednesday to rookie Heston Kjerstad, who has played sparingly since being called up from Triple-A Norfolk on April 23. • Cleared for season debut
Triple-A Columbus reinstated Valera (hamstring) from its 7-day injured list Wednesday.

Advice: Valera looks set to make his season debut Wednesday against Toledo after missing the first month of the campaign due to a hamstring strain. The 23-year-old outfielder didn't conduct a rehab assignment with one of the Guardians' lower-level affiliates prior to being activated, but he was presumably able to prepare for his 2024 Columbus debut by ramping up through simulated games at extended spring training in Arizona.
