    Advice: Megill's appeared in the Brewers' last two save chances -- he set down the four, five and six batters in the Cubs' order Friday after Joel Payamps faced the top of the lineup in the eighth. Megill and Payamps both figure to see their share of ninth-inning work with Devin Williams (back) likely out until the All-Star break.     Advice: Middleton has been on the 15-day IL since the start of the season after sustaining a right forearm strain in mid-March. He recently extended his throwing distance to 110 feet with no setback, and the right-hander has progressed enough to take the next step in his rehab program.     Trevor Megill worked a perfect ninth with a two-run lead for a save against the Cubs on Friday.

    Hayden Wesneski shut out the Brewers for 6 1/3 innings and struck out eight in a no-decision Friday.

    Advice: He allowed three hits and walked two. Wesneski gave up five balls hit at least 100 mph today, yet they all turned into outs. He has a 0.54 ERA after two starts and two relief appearances, but with Justin Steele returning and Kyle Hendricks probably right behind him, it’s unclear if he’ll get another start.   • Adbert Alzolay gives up three runs to take loss
    After coming in with a 1-0 lead in the eighth, Adbert Alzolay gave up three runs on four hits to take a loss to the Brewers on Friday.

    Advice: All four hits were singles, and three of them were soft, coming in at 80 mph or less. Two were grounders perfectly placed in between Dansby Swanson and Nico Hoerner up the middle. To be fair, Alzolay was missing his spots, and he hurt his cause by paying no attention to the baserunners and giving up three steals. Obviously, this won’t help his chances of seeing saves again anytime soon.     Beck (arm) has been cleared to begin a throwing program, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
