• Sean Manaea surrenders six runs in loss
Sean Manaea surrendered six runs -- five earned -- with ten strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings in a loss to the Diamondbacks on Saturday.

Advice: After two scoreless frames, Manaea loaded the bases with a base hit and two walks in the third. Christian Walker would clear them all with a grand slam to put the Diamondbacks ahead. A double and a base hit in the sixth would drive in a run and knock Manaea from the game with two outs at 105 pitches. He struck out a season-high ten batters. The 32-year-old left-hander will take a 3.63 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, and a 57/24 K/BB ratio across 57 innings into a start against the Phillies in New York next Saturday. Rotoworld Today, 4:26 pm

  • Emmanuel Clase locks down 18th save
Emmanuel Clase tossed a perfect ninth inning to earn the save against the Nationals on Saturday.

Advice: Clase was summoned in the ninth inning to close it out with a one-run lead over the Nationals. He slammed the door quickly, needing only eight pitches to secure the win and lock down his 18th save of the season. The 26-year-old right-hander has allowed just one run with a 29/2 K/BB ratio across 29 1/3 innings. Rotoworld Today, 3:47 pm
  • Ben Lively earns fifth win Saturday vs. Nats
Ben Lively allowed two runs with four strikeouts across 5 2/3 innings in a win over the Nationals on Saturday.

Advice: Lively worked through three scoreless inning before the Nationals brought two runs in to score in the fourth. After walking a batter with one out, Tyler Freeman misplayed a routine fly ball to put runners on second and third with one out instead of two outs and a runner on first. A groundout and a base hit would bring the two runs in to score. Lively would work a clean fifth and gave up a base hit with two outs in the sixth. That would end his day at 86 pitches -- 62 for strikes. He struck out four. The 32-year-old right-hander will take a 2.84 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, and a 47/15 K/BB ratio across 50 2/3 innings into a start against the Marlins in Miami on Friday. Rotoworld Today, 3:46 pm

  • Cooper Criswell holds Detroit to one run in win
Cooper Criswell allowed one run with five strikeouts over five innings in a win over the Tigers on Saturday.

Advice: A double and a base hit in the first inning put the Tigers on the board with one run. Criswell would settle in to give the Red Sox four more scoreless frames, scattering two more hits and a walk while striking out five batters. The 27-year-old right-hander ends the day with a 3.92 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, and a 41/10 K/BB ratio across 43 2/3 innings. He’s in line for a start against the White Sox on Friday. Rotoworld Today, 3:38 pm

  • Struck by comebacker
Ginkel was hit in the left leg by a comebacker during Saturday's game against the Mets and was removed from the game, Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com reports. He threw one perfect inning before the incident.

Advice: Ginkel was the first arm out of the bullpen for the Diamondbacks on Saturday, replacing Slade Cecconi late in the fifth inning. The 30-year-old retired the first two batters he faced before getting hit by a 98 MPH comebacker from Brandon Nimmo, who was still thrown out at first. Bryce Jarvis replaced Ginkel on the mound. • Trevor Megill (elbow) returns to action Saturday
Trevor Megill (elbow) returned to action on Saturday and looked no worse for the wear, striking out all three batters that he faced in a scoreless inning against the White Sox.

Advice: It wasn’t a save chance, as it was the seventh inning of a game where the Brewers trailed 3-1, but it was nice to see Megill look as dominant as ever after taking a scary line drive off of his arm during Monday’s game. He needed just 14 pitches (nine strikes) to dispatch of Zach Remillard, Tommy Pham and Korey Lee in order. Rotoworld Today, 3:15 pm

  • Luis Ortiz snags first career save on Saturday
Luis Ortiz picked up the first save of his big league career on Saturday, working three scoreless innings to close out the Blue Jays.

Advice: Ortiz came on in the seventh with the Pirates holding a comfortable 6-1 lead, and all he had to do was steer the ship home. He allowed just one hit over his three scoreless frames while striking out three batters along the way. He’s not going to suddenly challenge David Bednar for save chances, but it’s probably a nice confidence boost for him to be able to close one out. Rotoworld Today, 3:06 pm

  • Seeking second opinion
Middleton (forearm) will get a second opinion from a specialist Monday, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Middleton underwent an MRI on Friday after being checked out by team doctors and it appears he may be dealing with a significant injury to his throwing arm. Season-ending surgery has yet to be ruled out, though even if he avoids surgery, Middleton could have to start over after being close to returning from the 15-day IL just days before reporting the injury. Regardless, there should be more clarity regarding Middleton's status in the coming days. Rotowire.com Today, 2:24 pm

  • Out through All-Star break
Manager Craig Counsell said Saturday that Merryweather (ribs) will not return until after the All-Star break, Tony Andracki of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Advice: Merryweather has been on the IL since early April due to a rib stress fracture in his back. He's only a couple weeks into his throwing program, but the Cubs have already determined that it will take at least another month-and-a-half to get the 32-year-old reliever ready for game action. As Merryweather continues to check off boxes in his rehab process, a more exact return date should emerge. Rotowire.com Today, 2:19 pm
