      Senga (shoulder/triceps) took part in light-to-moderate throwing on the field Saturday, Pat Ragazzo of SI.com reports.

      Advice: Mets manager Carlos Mendoza characterized Senga's throwing as being mechanical in nature, but the activity nonetheless represents a step in the right direction after the Mets shut down the right-hander in late May, when he received a cortisone injection to address inflammation in his triceps. Senga initially opened the season on the injured list with a right posterior shoulder capsule strain before he experienced tightness in his triceps in May. Even though he's resumed his throwing program, Senga is without a clear timeline for a return. Given the multiple checkpoints he'll need to hit in his rehab prior to being activated from the 60-day IL, Senga looks unlikely to be activated until at least July. Rotowire.com Sunday, 5:04 pm

    • Luis Castillo dominates in victory over Angels
      Luis Castillo delivered a dominant performance in Sunday afternoon’s victory over the Angels, allowing just two hits and three walks over seven shutout innings.

      Advice: Castillo piled up six strikeouts in the impressive outing. The only real threat against him came in the fourth inning as the Angels used a pair of walks to put two men on with two outs for Jo Adell — who Castillo got to fly out harmlessly to center field. The 31-year-old hurler generated a staggering 21 swings and misses on 102 pitches in the contest — 13 of them on his fastball alone — while posting a strong CSW of 30 percent. Now 5-6 on the season, Castillo will carry a tidy 2.99 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and an 81/22 K/BB ratio (78 1/3 innings) into Saturday’s showdown against the Royals in Kansas City.       Castillo (5-6) allowed two hits and three walks while striking out six over seven scoreless innings to earn the win over the Angels on Sunday.

      Advice: Castillo's gone seven innings in three of his 13 starts this season, and he's kept runs off the board in the each of those outings. He allowed four runs in each of his first three starts of the season, but he hasn't given up more than three runs in any of his last 10 appearances, nine of which went down as quality starts.       Ryan (4-4) took the loss against Houston on Saturday, allowing five runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out four batters over five innings.

      Advice: Ryan was stung by the long ball in the loss, giving up a season-high four homers. He has allowed at least that many home runs in a start four times in his career, though he came into Saturday on pace for a career-best 0.9 HR/9.     • Joe Ryan gives up four homers in loss to Astros
      Joe Ryan gave up five runs over five innings while picking up a loss to the Astros on Saturday.

      Advice: Ryan gave up eight hits, which is not great, and five of those hits left the park, which is worse. The 27-year-old was coming off an outstanding start against the Royals on Monday. This was anything but. He also walked two and struck out four in one of the worst outings of the season for Ryan. Expect better things for the right-hander against Pittsburgh next week.       Mets manager Carlos Mendoza told reporters Saturday that Kodai Senga (shoulder) has yet to progress to a bullpen session.

      Advice: Mendoza adds that Senga is still playing light catch and there is no plan yet for him to advance to throwing off a mound.     • Luke Weaver gets final five outs against Giants
      Luke Weaver threw 1 2/3 scoreless frames in a relief appearance Friday against the Giants.

      Advice: Weaver allowed just one hit with one strikeout. The right-hander has become a big part of the New York bullpen with a 2.78 ERA and sparkling 0.73 WHIP while composing a K/BB of 39/7. It’s a little surprising to see how good he’s been, but credit to the Yankees and Weaver into turning him into a legitimate high-leverage option. Rotoworld Friday, 9:57 pm

      Assad didn't factor into the decision Friday against the Reds, allowing two runs on five hits and three walks over 5.1 innings. He struck out seven.

      Advice: Both of the runs charged to Assad came in the fourth inning when the Reds strung together three straight singles. Still, it was a positive effort for Assad overall after he'd given up seven runs (six earned) over 9.2 innings in his previous two outings, though he now has seven or more strikeouts in three of his last four starts. Overall, the 26-year-old right-hander is 4-1 with a 2.27 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 61:26 K:BB through 63.1 innings this season.       Javier Assad wasn’t involved in the decision after allowing two runs over 5 2/3 innings Friday against the Reds.

      Advice: Assad struck out seven and kept the ball in the yard today after allowing two homers in each of his previous two starts. He left with a one-run lead in the sixth, but that disappeared in the seventh. He’ll face the Reds again in his next start, though it will be in Cincinnati this time.
