• Breaks RBI drought
Carroll went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored in Sunday's 11-4 win over San Diego.

Advice: Carroll delivered a two-run single as part of Arizona's four-run first inning, snapping a 16-game drought without an RBI. He's hit in five of the last six games (6-for-22), which is a positive sign for the slumping outfielder, but Carroll's bat still lacks impact. Through 33 games, he has seven RBI, four extra-base hits and a .250 slugging percentage. Rotowire.com Today, 5:32 am
  • In line for return this week
Thomas (hamstring) served as the designated hitter and went 1-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a run scored for Triple-A Reno on Sunday.

Advice: Thomas, who played in the field Saturday and DH on Friday, has appeared in the three consecutive games. He hit safely in all three and driven in five runs. If there are no setbacks, he's expected to meet up with the Diamondbacks in Cincinnati for a three-game series beginning Tuesday, according to Alex Weiner of Arizona Sports. The Reds have right-hander Frankie Montas scheduled to throw Tuesday, so the lefty-hitting Thomas could be in the lineup for the series opener. Rotowire.com Today, 5:03 am

  • Goes deep in loss
Merrill went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in Sunday's 11-4 loss to the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Merrill took Ryne Nelson deep to right center in the second to open up the scoring for the Padres and later notched a single off the bat at 102.4 mph. He's now tallied a hit in each of his last three games and has five RBI over that span after going on a mini slump to end the month of April. The 21-year-old rookie has put together some solid numbers at the plate early on, slashing .284/.333/.388 with two homers, 16 RBI, 16 runs, four steals and a 9:20 BB:K in 127 plate appearances. • MRI coming Monday
Ruiz, who was removed from Saturday's win over the Marlins with a wrist injury and was out of the lineup Sunday, is slated to undergo an MRI on Monday, per A's beat reporter Jessica Kleinschmidt.

Advice: Manager Mark Kotsay hadn't ruled out Ruiz making an in-game appearance Sunday, but that situation never arose in an ugly 12-3 loss for the Athletics. Ruiz is now headed for further evaluation Monday, after which the severity of injury he suffered making a diving catch in Saturday's game will become clearer. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:09 pm

  • Dealing with shoulder issue
Soler was out of the lineup Sunday versus the Phillies due to a shoulder issue, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Soler is considered day-to-day, which suggests the injury isn't too severe. Wilmer Flores got the start at designated hitter Sunday and could continue to play there if Soler isn't available for Monday's series finale in Philadelphia. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:22 pm

  • Goes yard in win
McKenna went 1-for-3 with a solo home run, a walk and two total runs scored in Sunday's 11-1 win over the Reds.

Advice: McKenna has gotten into the lineup against the last three southpaws the Orioles have faced -- twice in center field and once in left. The outfielder has three hits this season, two of which have left the yard. He's still unlikely to see much more than a short-side platoon role, and McKenna's stay on the major-league roster is likely to end once Austin Hays (calf) is activated from the injured list. • Jake McCarthy has three hits in win over SD
Jake McCarthy went 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBI in an 11-4 win over the Padres.

Advice: McCarthy had a double and two singles on the night and is now slashing .311/.366/.392. The 26-year-old has been hitting leadoff consistently for the Diamondbacks but with Alek Thomas set to return from the IL this week, it’s unclear how the Diamondbacks will split playing time between him and McCarthy. It’s unlikely you can get anything in a trade for McCarthy, so you may just have to ride the wave and hope he can earn enough starts to remain productive. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:40 pm
  • Jackson Merrill homers in loss to Arizona
Jackson Merrill went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in a loss to the Diamondbacks.

Advice: The rookie launched a 394-foot home run in the second inning and also had a 102.4 mph single later in the game. Merrill is more of a contact-oriented hitter, so the exit velocities are nice to see as we dream on his power upside. The 21-year-old is slashing .284/.333/.388 with two home runs and 16 RBI on the year. He’s a better real-life player than a fantasy player, but he has enough tools to be a high-floor fantasy asset, especially if you need batting average. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:35 pm
  • Ozuna has two hits, HR in loss to Dodgers
Marcell Ozuna went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in a loss to the Dodgers on Sunday.

Advice: Ozuna’s home run was a 373-foot shot at 104.3 mph off the bat. It was the Braves’ only extra-base hit of the night. Ozuna now has 10 home runs and 33 RBI on the season while slashing .306/.382/.603 and has been the team’s best hitter this season. Rotoworld Yesterday, 5:24 pm
