      Jake Cronenworth hit a walkoff homer off Joel Payamps as the Padres edged the Brewers 7-6 on Thursday.

      Advice: Payamps couldn’t possibly have made a worse 3-2 pitch, and Cronenworth deposited the breaking ball 355 feet down the right field line for his 11th homer of the year.     • Allows five earned runs in loss
      Castillo (6-8) suffered the loss Thursday, allowing five runs on eight hits and two walks over five innings against the Guardians. He struck out four.

      Advice: Castillo entered the fifth with a 3-2 lead but with two outs, a walk preceded a home run by Andres Gimenez, then another walk paved the way for a Josh Naylor double that saddled Castillo with five runs allowed and left him on the hook for the loss. Following Castillo's start on June 2, he was on a 10-game stretch of allowing no more than two earned runs. However, his last three starts have been more of a mixed bag, having allowed 12 earned runs over his last 16 innings (6.75 ERA) including five runs allowed in two of his last three starts.     • Luis Castillo struggles in start vs. Guardians
      Luis Castillo gave up five runs in five innings against the Guardians on Thursday while picking up a loss.

      Advice: Castillo allowed eight hits and two walks while striking out four. He gave up two homers in the outing; a solo blast by Will Brennan, and a two-run shot to Andres Gimenez in the fifth. It’s a disappointing outing for the right-hander, and it’s the second time in three outings he’s given up five runs in as many frames.       Advice: For the first time since April 15, Castro will head to the bench, ending a streak of 59 consecutive starts. Though he opened the season in a utility role, Castro has solidified an everyday role thanks to his positional versatility and solid production at the plate. Austin Martin will enter the lineup at second base in place of Castro, who has been dialed in of late with a .368/.429/.605 slash line to go with one home run, six doubles, one stolen base, nine runs and four RBI over his last nine starts.       Finnegan struck out two in a perfect ninth inning Wednesday to record his 21st save of the season in a 3-1 win over Arizona.

      Advice: The right-hander breezed through the Diamondbacks' 5-6-7 hitters on 14 pitches (11 strikes) en route to his eighth straight successful conversion. Finnegan has put together the best first half of his career with a 1.72 ERA, 0.83 WHIP and 33:10 K:BB through 31.1 innings, but if the Nats fall out of the wild-card picture, he figures to become one of the team's biggest trade chips given that he has just one more year of arbitration eligibility in 2025 before reaching free agency.       Ramirez went 2-for-4 with one RBI, one stolen base and one run scored in Wednesday's 8-0 win over the Mariners.

      Advice: Ramirez has picked up right where he left off following a brief stint on the paternity list. He's gone 4-for-9 with two RBI and two runs scored over two games since he returned. The third baseman continues to do a little bit of everything for the Guardians with a .275/.333/.531 slash line, 18 home runs, 12 steals, 64 RBI and 53 runs scored through 68 contests this season.       Advice: Duran hit a solo home run off Kevin Gausman in the fifth inning then added an RBI single and a steal in the sixth. He later stole another base after reaching on a fielder's choice in the eighth. Duran extended his hitting streak to 10 games and has hit .356 with three homers and eight steals in June.       Bello (7-4) earned the win against the Blue Jays on Wednesday, allowing two runs on seven hits and two walks with six strikeouts over six innings.

      Advice: Bello threw three scoreless innings before loading the bases in the fourth, but he managed to limit the damage to two runs and responded with two more scoreless frames before leaving the game with a 5-2 lead. This was Bello's first quality start since May 22 and his best performance in June, as he surrendered 14 total runs over his first three June outings.       Advice: Naylor opened the scoring with an RBI single in the first inning. He then added a two-run home run in the fifth and a solo homer in the seventh. Naylor has hit safely in six of his last seven games, going 10-for-26 with three homers and seven RBI. While Naylor's current .237 average is well below last year's .308 mark, he has a .272 expected batting average and is just one homer shy of tying his career high of 20 in 2022.
