    • Sitting against lefty
Stott isn't in the Phillies' lineup for Thursday's game against the Mets.

Advice: The lefty-hitting Stott will take a seat as southpaw Jose Quintana prepares to start on the mound for New York. Whit Merrifield will fill the void at second base and bat seventh. Rotowire.com 7 minutes ago

    • Undergoes Tommy John surgery
Waldichuk underwent Tommy John surgery on his left elbow Wednesday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Waldichuk was initially diagnosed with a UCL tear last October. He opted for a minor procedure on his elbow last fall in hopes of avoiding the surgery he eventually had Wednesday. The left-hander figures to be sidelined until around midseason of 2025. Rotowire.com 9 minutes ago

    • Resting Thursday
Bader isn't in the Mets' lineup for Thursday's game against the Phillies.

Advice: Bader tallied a base hit in both of the games he played during New York's current series against Philadelphia, and he'll get a day off during Thursday's finale. His absence will allow Tyrone Taylor to start in center field, batting fifth. Rotowire.com 10 minutes ago

    • Not starting Thursday
Nido isn't in the Mets' lineup Thursday versus Philadelphia.

Advice: Nido will catch a breather after going 2-for-4 with an RBI during Wednesday's loss. Omar Narvaez will fill in at catcher while batting ninth. Rotowire.com 15 minutes ago

    • Idle Thursday
Wong isn't in the Red Sox's lineup for Thursday's game against Tampa Bay, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.

Advice: Wong will take a seat for Thursday's series finale after going 3-for-11 with an RBI through the first three games against the Rays. Reese McGuire will start instead behind the plate and bat seventh. Rotowire.com 31 minutes ago
    • Tyler O’Neill not in the Red Sox lineup on Thursday
Tyler O’Neill is not in the lineup on Thursday as the Red Sox take on the Rays.

Advice: After getting off to a torrid start, O’Neill has struggled of late. Since his collision with Rafael Devers in the outfield on April 15th which landed O’Neill on the concussion IL, the outfielder has hit just .219 with three home runs and a 41.5 percent strikeout rate. He was hitting .313 with seven home runs and a 21 percent strikeout rate prior. While the early season sample size is small, it’s worth noting that concussion symptoms can linger, as we saw with Anthony Rizzo last year. Perhaps it’s just a cold stretch, but maybe O’Neill is still feeling some effects of the head injury. Rob Refsnyder will be in left field and hitting third on Thursday while Garrett Cooper will DH and bat sixth. Rotoworld 32 minutes ago
    • Gets Thursday off
O'Neill isn't in the Red Sox's lineup for Thursday's game against the Rays, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.

Advice: O'Neill will get a chance to regroup Thursday after striking out seven times across his last two games. Rob Refsnyder will take his place in left field and bat third. Rotowire.com 33 minutes ago
    • Angels trade for Roansy Contreras
Pirates traded RHP Roansy Contreras to the Angels

Advice: Contreras was designated for assignment by the Pirates on Saturday to make room for Paul Skenes. The 24-year-old was moved to the bullpen this season and had posted a 4.41 ERA, 1.65 WHIP, and 16/8 K/BB ratio across 16 1/3 innings. However, Contreras was a top-100 prospect just a couple of years ago, ranking as MLB Pipeline’s 67th overall prospect prior to the 2022 season. Entering 2024, Contreras had a 3.67 ERA in 98 MLB innings with a 9.5 percent walk rate and 21.4 percent strikeout rate while limiting opposing batters to a .225 batting average. However, he had seen a troubling decline in fastball velocity and his command wasn’t good enough to hide his diminishing raw stuff. Still, at just 24 years old, there could easily be a solid MLB pitcher lurking in there somewhere; he just didn’t necessarily land in the best place for that pitcher to be unearthed. • Dealt to Anaheim
The Pirates traded Contreras to the Angels on Thursday in exchange for cash, Alex Stumpf of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Contreras was DFA'd by Pittsburgh on Saturday after posting a 4.41 ERA and 1.65 WHIP across 16.1 innings. The 24-year-old right-hander will replace Davis Daniel in the Angels' bullpen, though Contreras could also be moved into the starting rotation if necessary. Rotowire.com 45 minutes ago
