    • James McArthur gives up four runs in blowing save
James McArthur gave up four runs without retiring a batter in the eighth to take a blown save Friday against the Padres.

Advice: Josh Schreiber, McArthur and Will Klein combined to give up nine runs in the eighth after the Royals entered the inning with a 3-2 lead. The good news for McArthur was that Schreiber, the Royals’ best alternative in the closer’s role, was pretty much equally ineffective tonight. Schrieber still has a big ERA lead on McArthur (3.00 to 5.32) and McArthur is up to four blown saves, so a change might be considered. Rotoworld Today, 9:00 pm
    • Secures save Tuesday
Estevez pitched a perfect ninth inning to earn the save in Tuesday's 4-3 win over the Yankees.

Advice: The Angels rallied ahead in the bottom of the eighth inning, and Estevez made the lead stand. The closer has allowed four runs (three earned) over 8.1 innings in May while adding three saves, one blown save and two losses. He's at a 4.76 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 17:3 K:BB over 17 innings this season, but he continues to operate in the closer role despite his shaky pitching. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 10:45 pm
    • Carlos Estévez notches eighth save against Yankees
Carlos Estévez recorded his eighth save with a flawless ninth Tuesday against the Yankees.

Advice: The rare perfect inning from Estévez pulled his ERA back down to 4.76. He did go without a strikeout for a third straight appearance, but it’s unlikely that anyone with the Angels noticed. Rotoworld Tuesday, 10:28 pm
    • Converts 17th save
Clase allowed a hit in a scoreless inning and earned a save over the Angels on Sunday.

Advice: Clase worked around a two-out single to close out the 5-4 victory and pick up his 17th save of the year. He's gone 20.1 straight innings without allowing an earned run and he's converted 13 of his last 14 save chances. Clase's ERA is down to a ridiculous 0.33 with a 26:2 K:BB through 27.1 frames. • Clase slams the door for 17th save
Emmanuel Clase pitched a scoreless ninth inning to close out a 5-4 win over the Angels.

Advice: Clase allowed a two-out single but no other damage as he earned his 17th save of the season. The right-hander now has a 0.33 ERA and has been far-and-away the best closer in baseball so far in 2024. Rotoworld Sunday, 4:57 pm

    • Fans two in save
Clase picked up the save over the Angels on Saturday, allowing one hit over one inning while striking out two.

Advice: Clase entered the game with a one-run lead in the bottom of the ninth and surrendered a leadoff single to Logan O'Hoppe before retiring the next three batters in succession, with two of them going down on strikes. It marked Clase's third appearance this month in which he's registered multiple strikeouts and he's now converted each of his last three save opportunities. The right-hander currently sits at 16 saves on the season, which ties him for the major league lead with Ryan Helsley. Rotowire.com Sunday, 6:06 am

    • Clase picks up 16th save Saturday
Emmanuel Clase tossed a scoreless ninth inning and picked up his 16th save of the season against the Angels on Saturday.

Advice: Clase allowed one hit and struck out two batters. He lowered his ERA to 0.34 with another scoreless appearance. Clase continues to show he’s one of the league’s elite closers. Rotoworld Saturday, 9:34 pm

    • Snags win Saturday
McArthur (2-2) allowed an unearned run on one hit over two innings, earning the extra-innings win over the Rays on Saturday.

Advice: McArthur gave up a two-out RBI double in the 10th inning that tied the game at 4-4, but the Royals took the lead for good in the 11th. May hasn't been an easy month for McArthur, who has given up eight runs (six earned) over 10 innings while converting four of his six save chances. He's at a 3.80 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 23:3 K:BB over 23.2 innings while adding 11 saves in 14 chances and one hold. McArthur's role as the Royals' primary closer isn't in doubt yet, but it's possible Carlos Hernandez will be a factor in the late innings eventually after recovering from a shoulder injury that kept him out for the first two months of the campaign. • Takes loss in 10th
Estevez (0-3) took the loss against the Astros on Tuesday after allowing an unearned run on a hit and a walk while managing to record one out.

Advice: Estevez had no room for error after the Angels failed to score in the top of the 10th and was stuck with facing the heart of the Astros lineup. Yordan Alvarez was intentionally walked to start the inning, and then Alex Bregman was retired before giving up the game-winning hit to Jeremy Pena. Estevez has now pitched on back-to-back days and in three of the last four and likely will have the day off Wednesday. He now owns a 5.06 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 17:3 K:BB in 16 innings.
