    • Clarke Schmidt fires eight-inning gem vs. Twins
Clarke Schmidt matched a career-high with eight strikeouts over eight scoreless innings on Thursday in a win over the the Twins.

Advice: Schmidt authored the strongest start of his career during Thursday afternoon’s matinee at Target Field, completing seven innings for the first time in his career, while also scattering three hits and needing just 103 pitches (69 strikes) to navigate eight nearly-flawless frames. He generated 16 swinging strikes, including 10 on his cutter alone, finishing with a robust 34 percent CSW. The 28-year-old righty has been a revelation this season for fantasy managers as a late-round steal in deeper mixed leagues. He’ll carry a sparkling 2.49 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 55/15 K/BB ratio across 50 2/3 innings (nine starts) into a home outing on Tuesday against the Mariners. Rotoworld Today, 12:30 pm

    • Pete Alonso hitting 2nd for Mets
Pete Alonso will hit second for the Mets on Thursday against the Phillies

Advice: This is the second straight start for Alonso in the second spot in the order, while Starling Marte moves down the sixth. Carlos Mendoza is clearly trying to jumpstart this Mets offense, and he was with the Yankees as a coach when they hit Aaron Judge second in the lineup, so perhaps he’s trying to recapture some of that magic. Alonso has just a .306 on-base percentage this year, which is the lowest of his career and his RBI opportunities will take a hit with the move out of the cleanup spot, so it’s unclear if this is a great decision. However, the big first baseman needs improve on his .756 OPS before we can worry about the impact of his spot in the lineup. Rotoworld Today, 12:06 pm

    • Homers in win
De La Cruz went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 2-0 win over the Tigers.

Advice: De La Cruz crushed a two-run, 422-foot homer off Casey Mize in the first inning Wednesday for the only runs scored in the Marlins' shutout victory. De La Cruz has gone just 4-for-24 in his last six games, though he's already up to nine home runs on the season, nearly halfway to the career-high 19 he hit last year. Overall, the 27-year-old outfielder is slashing .256/.304/.456 with 25 runs scored and 24 RBI, both team highs, through his first 194 plate appearances in 2024. Rotowire.com Today, 7:32 am

    • Resting Thursday
Jeffers is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Yankees.

Advice: Jeffers will get some maintenance in Thursday's day game after he caught all nine innings of the Twins' 4-0 loss Wednesday night. Christian Vazquez will check in for Jeffers behind the dish. Rotowire.com Today, 7:14 am

    • Blasts leadoff homer
Westburg went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Wednesday's 3-2 win over the Blue Jays.

Advice: Westburg made manager Brandon Hyde look smart -- this was Westburg's first big-league game at leadoff, and he hit a homer in his first at-bat. The infielder is 11-for-32 (.344) over his last eight games, adding six extra-base hits and seven RBI in that span. For the season, he's slashing .301/.354/.534 with seven homers, 28 RBI, 22 runs scored and five stolen bases through 159 plate appearances. Westburg may get more looks at leadoff versus southpaws, but he should be expected to bat lower in the lineup versus right-handers, as he has yet to above sixth in the order against same-handed pitchers this season. • Fans six in victory
Bradley (1-1) earned the win over Boston on Wednesday, allowing two runs on four hits and one walk while striking out six batters over five innings.

Advice: Bradley wasn't quite as sharp as he was in his season debut Friday versus the Yankees, when he gave up just one run and struck out seven batters over six innings, but a big difference Wednesday was that he went home with a win. The promising 23-year-old got a late start to the season after injuring his pectoral in spring training and subsequently landing on the injured list, but he's impressed in two starts since his return as he attempts to solidify the back of Tampa Bay's rotation. Bradley's next start is tentatively projected to be a rematch against Boston, this time at home. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:02 pm
    • Taj Bradley strikes out six, earns first win
Taj Bradley battled Tanner Houck to earn the win in Fenway Park on Wednesday. He struck out six while allowing two earned runs, four hits, and one walk in a 4-3 victory.

Advice: Bradley had an uneasy start to the game before settling in and defeating the Red Sox. His fastball command was spotty in this one leaving far too many up and out of the zone, but he leaned on his splitter against a lefty-heavy Red Sox lineup. This was an encouraging second start of the season for Bradley who tentatively lines up for a two-start week against the Red Sox and Royals. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:28 pm
    • Bobby Witt Jr. plates both runs in loss to Mariners
Bobby Witt Jr. went 0-for-3 and drove in both of the Royals’ runs in Wednesday afternoon’s loss to the Mariners.

Advice: The 23-year-old superstar finally got the Royals on the board with a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning, pulling them to within a run at 2-1. He also plated a run with a ground ball in the eighth inning. On the season, he’s now slashing .293/.359/.500 with five homers, 23 RBI and 15 stolen bases. Rotoworld Yesterday, 4:50 pm
    • Jurickson Profar swipes base in loss on Wednesday
Jurickson Profar singled and stole a base on Wednesday afternoon as the Padres were shut out by the Rockies.

Advice: Profar smacked a leadoff single off of Austin Gomber in the fourth inning and swiped second base, but the Padres couldn’t cash him in from there. He finished the afternoon 1-for-4 with a strikeout. On the season, he’s still slashing a robust .322/.412/.513 with seven homers, 29 RBI and three stolen bases. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:52 pm
