• Collects eighth save
Helsley struck out two in a perfect ninth inning Friday to record his eighth save of the season in a 4-2 win over the Mets.

Advice: The right-hander needed only nine pitches (seven strikes) to convert his eighth straight chance after blowing a save March 30. Helsley hasn't allowed an earned run in seven straight appearances, and he sports a 1.93 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and 16:1 K:BB through 14 innings on the season. The 29-year-old's career high is 19 saves, but he's tracking to blow past that mark by the All-Star break. Rotowire.com Today, 6:13 am
  • Picks up first win
Flexen (1-3) earned the win Friday against the Rays after throwing five scoreless innings while giving up two hits and three walks while striking out two batters.

Advice: Flexen's day got off to a questionable start after Yandy Diaz drove a double into center field to begin the game, but the 29-year-old pitcher then turned in his best performance of the year to secure his first win of the young season. Flexen still carries a gaudy 5.11 ERA and 1.34 WHIP on the year, but he's given up just one earned run across 11.1 frames over his last three outings. He'll have plenty of momentum on his side during his next start -- tentatively scheduled for Wednesday against the Twins. Rotowire.com Today, 6:11 am

  • Enters for injured starter
McGough allowed three runs on two hits and two walks over one inning in Friday's 6-1 loss to the Mariners.

Advice: McGough entered the game on short notice in the sixth inning, inheriting one runner after starter Zac Gallen was removed with a hamstring injury. The reliever allowed a single, walk then a grand slam to Mitch Haniger, the second consecutive appearance in which McGough has ceded a home run. It was the fourth time in the last six outings he's allowed earned runs, and his ERA spiked to 7.30 following Friday's effort. Rotowire.com Today, 6:05 am
  • Bullpen scheduled
Sewald (oblique) will throw a bullpen session Saturday, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Sewald threw 21 pitches (14 strikes) in a rehab appearance earlier in the week and felt the right kind of soreness a day later. Following Saturday's session and presuming all goes well, the reliever is likely to head out for a second rehab outing. Rotowire.com Today, 5:43 am

  • Chase Silseth (elbow) resumes throwing Friday
Chase Silseth (elbow) resumed a throwing program on Friday.

Advice: Silseth is aiming to rejoin Los Angeles’ starting rotation in early May after landing on the injured list with right elbow inflammation. The 23-year-old righty might wind up requiring a rehab outing, or two, before he’s ready to return, but is tracking towards being ready at some point in May. Rotoworld Today, 4:39 am

  • Falters in San Francisco
Bednar (1-2) took the loss Friday against the Giants after he allowed three runs on two hits and a walk without recording an out.

Advice: Pirates manager Derek Shelton turned to his closer in the bottom of the ninth of a scoreless tie, but Bednar gave up a walk and a single before serving up a walk-off, three-run homer to Patrick Bailey. Bednar entered the contest with three straight scoreless appearances, but he has now allowed at least three runs in three separate outings and has a 12.00 ERA across nine innings overall. The right-hander is 4-for-7 in save opportunities and has seen his job security decline significantly after beginning the campaign as one of the top closers in MLB with 58 saves and a 2.27 ERA in the previous two seasons. • Kirby Yates throws perfect ninth for save
Kirby Yates struck out two in a perfect ninth Friday for a save against the Reds.

Advice: It was Yates’ first appearance since his save Sunday. He threw 14 pitches tonight, so he should be available again Saturday. David Robertson could also be a threat for a save then, but Yates is the clear favorite in Texas right now. Rotoworld Yesterday, 11:22 pm

  • David Bednar struggles again, allows walk-off HR
David Bednar didn’t record an out while giving up a three-run homer and picking up a loss to the Giants on Friday.

Advice: Oof. Bednar walked Michael Conforto to open the ninth, and after walking Matt Chapman, the 29-year-old gave up a three-run homer to Patrick Bailey to turn a 0-0 game into a 3-0 win for the Giants. This is already the third appearance of the year where Bednar has allowed three or more runs, and that helps explain why his ERA is now 12.00. There’s lots of reasons to expect Bednar to bounce back in the summer months, but fantasy managers have the right to be frustrated with how he’s pitched in April. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:51 pm
  • Ryan Helsley needs nine pitches for eighth save
Ryan Helsley struck out two in a perfect ninth for his eighth save Friday against the Mets.

Advice: Helsley threw just nine pitches tonight. His velocity was down some this spring and during the first week of the regular season, but he’s been right around 100 mph with his fastball these last couple of weeks. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:45 pm
