    • Decent in no-decision
      Cortes allowed two runs on five hits and struck out four without walking a batter over 5.1 innings in a no-decision versus the Angels on Tuesday.

      Advice: Cortes allowed multiple runs for the first time in three starts, but it was still a passable outing for the southpaw. He allowed a total of nine runs (eight earned) over 29 innings across five starts in May while adding a 30:8 K:BB in that span. Cortes is at a 3.30 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 67:15 K:BB through 71 innings over 12 starts this season. He's projected to make his next start on the road in San Francisco.     • Nestor Cortes holds Angels to two runs over 5 1/3
      Nestor Cortes was uninvolved in the decision Tuesday after allowing two runs in 5 1/3 innings against the Angels.

      Advice: The key for Cortes this season is simply to allow zero earned runs. He’s 3-0 when that happens and 0-4 the rest of the time. It’s something he’ll just have to work on prior to his start against the Giants on Sunday. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:28 pm
       
    • Matt Waldron knuckles his way to third win
      Matt Waldron struck out eight over seven innings Tuesday in the Padres’ 4-0 shutout of the Marlins.

      Advice: He moved to 3-5 with a 4.26 ERA. Waldron threw his knuckleball 27% of the time last season and was at 36% percent this season coming into the night. Against the Marlins, though, he used it a career-high 55% of the time and induced 11 of his 15 missed swings on the night. We’re still not overly impressed by the pitch, but the league is awfully unfamiliar at dealing with knuckleballs these days.     • Jurickson Profar homers, knocks in three runs
      Jurickson Profar had a two-run homer and an RBI single to drive in three of the Padres’ four runs Tuesday against the Marlins.

      Advice: We’re still not sure what’s gotten into Profar, but he’s hitting the ball harder than ever and he’s currently boasting a .354 BABIP that’s nearly 90 points better than his career mark.     • Jake Cronenworth goes 0-for-4 versus Marlins
      Jake Cronenworth went 0-for-4 on Tuesday, leaving him 12-for-56 in his last 15 games.

      Advice: Given his obvious decline in 2022 and ’23, Cronenworth was a very nice surprise to begin this year, batting .285/.349/.503 in his first 39 games. He’s slumped the last two weeks, but his exit velocity numbers are still encouraging enough to suggest that he’ll snap out of this and remain rather productive. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:13 pm

      Seager went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run and a walk in Tuesday's 4-2 win over the Diamondbacks.

      Advice: Seager's hitting streak is up to 11 games, during which he's gone 14-for-40 (.350). He's also homered seven times over his last seven contests, with Tuesday's blast being enough to secure the win for the Rangers. The shortstop is up to 12 long balls, 27 RBI, 26 runs scored and a .259/.351/.461 slash line through 50 games, though he's been particularly impressive with his recent power surge after a slow start to the campaign.     • Falls to St. Louis
      Abbott (3-5) took the loss Tuesday against the Cardinals, allowing six runs on seven hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out three.

      Advice: Abbott held St. Louis to three runs through six innings, as he pitched into the seventh for a third straight start. However, Abbott would allow the first three batters to reach in the frame, punctuated by a Nolan Gorman homer, en route to an eventual 7-1 loss. The 24-year-old left-hander had held opponents to two earned runs or fewer in nine of his 10 starts prior to Tuesday. Abbott's ERA rose to 3.29 with a 1.13 WHIP and 46:17 K:BB over 63 innings this year. He'll look to get back on track in his next outing, currently scheduled for early next week in Colorado.       Corey Seager went 1-for-3 with a home run and three RBI in Tuesday’s win over the Diamondbacks.

      Advice: Seager sent his 12th homer of the season 407 feet into the right field stands to give the Rangers a 4-2 lead. It was a three-run homer for Seager, who upped his RBI total to 27 on the season, with 11 of those RBI coming in his last seven games.     • Mason Miller shuts door on Rays for 11th save
      Mason Miller earned a save by preserving a 3-0 win over the Rays on Tuesday.

      Advice: Miller, who hadn’t pitched in two days, didn’t make it easy on himself. After getting the first two batters out, he allowed a single to Yandy Diaz and walked Brandon Lowe to bring the tying run to the plate before striking out Isaac Paredes to end the game. It was his 11th save of the year to go along with a 1.88 ERA. He has emerged as one of the most dominant relievers in baseball and with the A’s proving to be more competitive than many expected, Miller should easily eclipse the 20-save mark this year if he can stay healthy.
