    • Matt Waldron works into seventh in no-decision
      Matt Waldron went without a decision while allowing one run and two hits in 6 1/3 innings Monday against the Angels.

      Advice: Waldron was back down to 33% usage of the knuckler tonight after utilizing the pitch a career-high 55% of the time last time out. He was plenty effective, but he might have been even more so with more knuckler usage, considering that all seven hard-hit balls he allowed came on other pitches.       Waldron gave up a run on two hits over 6.1 innings in a no-decision Monday. He struck out four during the loss to the Angels.

      Advice: Waldron turned in a second straight quality start Monday, allowing only one run in the fourth inning. He's given up two or fewer runs in five consecutive outings but has finished at least six innings just twice in that span. Still, his ERA has fallen from 5.82 to 3.98 during this run. Waldron has produced a 64:19 K:BB through 63.1 innings and hasn't allowed a long ball since May 11. He's currently in line to face Arizona at home this weekend.       Manager Rob Thomson said Monday that Suarez (hand) will play catch Tuesday and throw a bullpen session Wednesday before the Phillies decide on the left-hander's next step, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.

      Advice: Suarez was forced out after just two innings in his most recent start against the Cardinals on Saturday, when he took a 106.1 mile-per-hour line drive off his pitching hand. X-rays cleared Suarez of any structural damage, but he's still dealing with some bruising and swelling that could present some difficulty for the southpaw in commanding his full arsenal. The upcoming bullpen session will represent an important test for Suarez in showing the Phillies' coaching and training staffs that the injury won't affect his pitching. At this stage, Thomson said that Suarez remains in play for his next turn through the rotation, which falls during the Phillies' two-game series with the Mets in London this weekend.       Advice: On the plus side for fantasy managers, Cortes did manage to record seven punchouts in the ballgame and didn’t walk a batter. Most of the damage done against him came via the long ball, with Heliot Ramos launching a solo homer in the third inning and Casey Schmitt following suit in the fourth.       Yankees’ manager Aaron Boone told reporters on Sunday that Gerrit Cole (elbow) will need at least a couple of minor league rehab starts before he’s ready to make his 2024 debut.

      Advice: Cole will make his first minor league rehab start at Double-A Somerset on Tuesday. His next turn will come five days after that. If he needs just two starts, his regular season debut would likely come against the Red Sox at some point during their series starting on June 14. If he needs a third tune-up in the minor leagues, it’s likely that his debut would come the following week against the Braves. As long as he avoids any setbacks, his return appears to be imminent.       Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Sunday that Cole (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment Tuesday with Double-A Somerset, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

      Advice: The 33-year-old has thrown multiple sessions of live batting practice over the past couple weeks and has now been cleared to pitch in minor-league games.
