    • Cracks 17th homer in win
Alvarez went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer and a walk in Monday's 3-1 victory over the Blue Jays.

Advice: The Houston designated hitter provided two insurance runs by launching a 397-foot homer off Zach Pop in the ninth inning to extend the Astros' lead to 3-0. Alvarez has opened July nicely on the tails of a scorching June in which he hit .349 (30-for-86) with seven homers, 19 RBI and 20 runs scored. The 27-year-old's been the heart and soul of the Houston lineup this season, as expected, slashing .294/.372/.528 in 352 total plate appearances. Rotowire.com 36 minutes ago

    • Goes six scoreless for sixth win
Brown (6-5) earned the win Monday against Toronto, allowing two hits and three walks over six scoreless innings. He struck out five.

Advice: The Houston right-hander continued his torrid hot streak, tossing an eighth consecutive quality start. Over those eight outings, Brown has gone 5-1 with a 1.29 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 53:14 K:BB across 49 innings. Despite sporting a 9.78 ERA after his first 23 innings, the 25-year-old has now lowered his overall ERA to 4.07 in 86.1 total innings. Brown is currently scheduled to make his next start against the Twins in Minnesota this weekend. Rotowire.com 48 minutes ago
    • Hunter Brown goes six scoreless to defeat Jays
Hunter Brown tossed six scoreless frames, allowing only two hits, Monday as the Astros defeated the Blue Jays 3-1.

Advice: The Jays had a chance in the second, when Brown gave up a single and walked two to load the bases with one out, but Ernie Clement and Kevin Kiermaier failed to bring home any runners. Other than that, Brown kept the Toronto bats very quiet on Canada Day. He’s won five straight starts, allowing a total of one run in the process. Having a particularly great stretch of schedule has certainly helped there, but he’d probably be doing just fine against better teams, too. Rotoworld 54 minutes ago
    • Brandon Nimmo absent due to cut on forehead
Brandon Nimmo is out of Monday’s lineup after suffering a cut on his forehead when he fell in his hotel room last night.

Advice: Fortunately, it doesn’t sound like Nimmo hurt his head beyond he cut. His absence means the Mets have Jeff McNeil in the outfield and José Iglesias at second tonight. Rotoworld Today, 1:48 pm

    • Nursing forehead laceration
Nimmo is absent from Monday's lineup against the Nationals due to a laceration on his forehead, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

Advice: Nimmo suffered the cut when he slipped and fell in his hotel room Sunday night in Washington, D.C. He passed concussion tests and is expected to be fine, but the injury will cost him a start. It's not clear whether Nimmo might be available off the bench Monday. Rotowire.com Today, 1:45 pm

    • Getting rest Monday
Nimmo is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Nationals.

Advice: With a tough lefty (MacKenzie Gore) on the hill for the Nationals and with the lefty-hitting Nimmo having started in each of the Mets' last 15 games, New York manager Carlos Mendoza likely viewed the series opener with Washington as an optimal time to give the 31-year-old outfielder the day off. Jeff McNeil will pick up a start in left field in place of Nimmo, who concluded June with a blistering .382/.485/.782 slash line over his final 14 games of the month. Rotowire.com Today, 12:50 pm

    • Three hits in win
Walker went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI in Sunday's 5-1 win over the Athletics.

Advice: Walker ignited the scoring in the fourth with an RBI base knock and later extended Arizona's lead with another RBI single in the seventh. It was his seventh game in June with multiple hits and his fifth game of the year with a trio of base knocks. Walker has been a steady source of run production for the Diamondbacks this season, slashing .256/.330/.472 with 17 homers, 53 RBI, 49 runs and a 33:88 BB:K in 358 plate appearances. • Fans 10 Sunday
Ryan allowed two runs (one earned) on six hits and no walks while striking out 10 over 5.2 innings Sunday against the Mariners. He did not factor into the decision.

Advice: Ryan got through four innings unscathed while racking up eight of his 10 strikeouts over that span. He found himself in some immediate trouble in the fifth after allowing a leadoff triple and wound up surrendering two runs in the inning following a pair of base knocks and a fielding error. Sunday was Ryan's second double-digit strikeout performance this season and his second straight outing without walking a batter. He's given up two runs or less in four of his last five starts, though that's only amounted to one win. The 28-year-old will carry an excellent 3.21 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 110:15 K:BB (103.2 innings) into a meeting with the ascending Astros over the weekend. Rotowire.com Today, 2:32 am

    • Tallies 11th homer
Arozarena went 2-for-4 with a solo home run Sunday against the Nationals.

Advice: Arozarena went deep in the seventh inning to record his 11th homer of the season and third of June. The performance wrapped up a solid month, as he hit .291 with nine RBI, 10 runs scored and three stolen bases in 25 games. Arozarena is still hitting just .196 for the season, though there should be optimism his performance will improve across the second half of the campaign. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:45 pm
