• Rangers demote Ezequiel Duran to Triple-A
Rangers optioned INF/OF Ezequiel Duran to Triple-A Round Rock.

Advice: We thought this might happen when Josh Jung came off the IL, but the Rangers declined to wait that long. Duran was hitting .256/.294/.324 in 187 plate appearances this season, and with Josh Smith thriving, he wasn’t going to play much following Jung’s return. A stint in Triple-A shouldn’t hurt. • Rangers activate Justin Foscue, send him to AAA
Rangers activated INF Justin Foscue from the 60-day injured list and optioned him to Triple-A Round Rock.

Advice: Foscue played in just two games for the Rangers in April before suffering an oblique strain. There’s no room for him on the roster now, but if he excels in Triple-A, perhaps he’ll get a look at DH or maybe even first base later. Rotoworld 33 minutes ago

  • Activated and optioned
The Rangers activated Foscue (oblique) from the 60-day injured list Wednesday and optioned him to Triple-A Round Rock.

Advice: Foscue is fully recovered from the oblique strain that had kept him on the shelf since early April, but the Rangers will keep him at Round Rock, where he had been on a rehab assignment. The rookie infielder is 4-for-21 with one home run in seven games with Round Rock this season. Rotowire.com 35 minutes ago

  • Heading to Triple-A
The Rangers optioned Duran to Triple-A Round Rock on Wednesday.

Advice: Duran had a nice first full season with the Rangers in 2023, slashing .276/.324/.443 with 14 home runs and eight stolen bases. His follow-up in 2024 hasn't been as successful, as he sports just a .256/.294/.324 line with two home runs and one steal over 58 contests. Duran could still play a prominent role with the Rangers later this season, but for now he'll try to get back on track in a less-pressurized environment. Rotowire.com 41 minutes ago

  • Expects to swing bat soon
Jung (wrist) said Wednesday that he expects to resume swinging a bat in a few days, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Advice: Jung was examined Tuesday in Phoenix by the doctor that performed his right wrist surgery. While the third baseman has had his activation from the 60-day injured list pushed back a bit due to inflammation in the wrist, he's been told everything is sound structurally. Jung's return has effectively been ruled out through the weekend, but it's possible he's back shortly after that. More should be known regarding a potential timetable in the coming days. • Hitting bench after two straight starts
Alexander is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Marlins.

Advice: After being called up from Triple-A Omaha on Monday, Alexander started at third base in the first two games of the Royals' series with the Marlins, going 0-for-6 with a pair of strikeouts. He'll take a seat Wednesday while Nick Loftin occupies third base, and it's possible the two could be part of a timeshare at the hot corner until Michael Massey is cleared to play the infield again after he served as Kansas City's designated hitter in his first two games back from the injured list. • Battling knee tendinitis
Reds manager David Bell said Wednesday that Candelario is dealing with knee tendinitis that is "progressively not getting better" and "maybe a bit worse," Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Advice: Candelario -- who is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Pirates -- was removed from a game last week with the knee issue, and it has continued to nag at him. Bell noted that Candelario is still able to play but added that the infielder will be re-evaluated later Wednesday as the club decides how to best handle the situation. With Noelvi Marte looking likely to return from an 80-game suspension Thursday to provide the club another option at third base, it's possible the Reds will choose to put Candelario on the injured list if they determine his knee would improve with some extended rest. • Receiving rest Wednesday
Candelario is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Pirates.

Advice: Candelario will get a routine day off after he had been in the lineup for each of the previous five contests. Spencer Steer and Santiago Espinal will occupy the corner-infield spots for the Reds on Wednesday. Rotowire.com Today, 7:40 am

  • Brett Baty hits sixth homer since Triple-A demotion
Brett Baty hit his sixth homer in 15 games for Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday.

Advice: Baty is hitting .333/.388/.700 with more homers (six to four), more doubles (four to three) and more RBI (18 to 16) in 15 games for Syracuse than he had in 50 games in the majors. The Mets could have recalled him yesterday in place of Starling Marte, but with Mark Vientos having earned regular playing time, they decided against it. A Pete Alonso or J.D. Martinez trade next month could create another opportunity for Baty. Rotoworld Today, 7:32 am
