• Scratched from start due to illness
Singer has been scratched from Thursday's scheduled start against the Twins due to illness.

Advice: Daniel Lynch was recalled from Triple-A Omaha and will start Thursday in Singer's place. It's possible Singer will be ready to make a start in the coming days, though it will be depend on how he bounces back from the illness. Consider him day-to-day for the time being. • Resumes throwing
Springs (elbow/lat) threw long toss from 90 feet Thursday, Kristie Ackert of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Advice: Springs was removed from his second rehab start in the rookie-level Florida Complex League this past Saturday due to lat soreness, but it's a good sign that he was able to resume throwing five days later. According to Ackert, Springs made about 45 throws Thursday with no apparent issues. It's not clear when the left-hander will be ready to resume a rehab assignment. Springs is working his way back from Tommy John surgery, which he underwent last April. Rotowire.com Today, 7:46 am

  • Jeffrey Springs long tosses on Thursday
Jeffrey Springs (lat) was able to long toss on Thursday, five days after being removed from his rehab start with shoulder tightness.

Advice: Springs made 45 throws from up to 90 feet on Thursday, which is a good sign so closely removed from leaving his start rehab start with an injury. The left-hander should continue to build back up towards getting back on the mound, but the Rays will not rush him. Given that Springs is recovering from Tommy John surgery and has a history as a reliever, it wouldn’t be a surprise for the Rays to bring him back in a multi-inning role or as a “follower” behind an opener. The uncertainty makes him a tough player to stash in shallower formats. Rotoworld Today, 7:26 am

  • Kris Bubic solid in Triple-A start
Kris Bubic threw 3 2/3 scoreless innings for Triple-A Omaha on Wednesday.

Advice: The lefty allowed just one hit and walked one while striking out seven batters on 63 pitches. Bubic had made two starts at Double-A before this one and is building towards his return to the big league roster. It’s possible he will make another start or two in Triple-A since there is no immediate spot open in the Royals’ rotation, but Bubic looked sharp in this start. Rotoworld Today, 7:21 am

  • Athletics recalled Hogan Harris from AAA
Athletics recalled LHP Hogan Harris from Triple-A Las Vegas

Advice: Despite Harris taking the place of reliever Kyle Muller on the roster, Harris will get a start for the Athletics on Thursday against the Rays. The left-hander has made two long-relief appearances so far this season, allowing four runs on eight hits in 8 2/3 innings. He’s also recorded eight strikeouts and walked three. He will operate in long relief as long as Kyle Muller is out. Rotoworld Today, 7:18 am

  • Called up, starting Thursday
The Athletics recalled Harris from Triple-A Las Vegas on Thursday. He'll start the Athletics' series finale in Tampa Bay.

Advice: Harris is back up with the Athletics for the third time this season, but he'll be starting for the first time after his prior two appearances with Oakland came in long relief. The southpaw has been a full-time member of the rotation at Las Vegas for most of this season, logging a 7.67 ERA, 1.79 WHIP and 29:24 K:BB over 29.1 innings in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League. Harris' numbers over parts of two seasons in the majors (6.78 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 64:31 K:BB in 71.2 innings) aren't much better, so he won't make for a dependable streaming option Thursday. • Kyle Muller lands on IL with shoulder injury
Athletics placed LHP Kyle Muller on the 15-day IL with left shoulder tendinitis.

Advice: Muller has been solid in his first season as a reliever, pitching to a 3.48 ERA and 1.19 WHIP but also does have just 24 strikeouts in 33 2/3 innings. There’s no indication yet of how long Muller will be out. The team recalled LHP Hogan Harris from Triple-A Las Vegas in a corresponding move. Rotoworld Today, 7:14 am

  • Allows one run in no-decision
Verlander did not factor into the decision in Wednesday's loss to the Mariners, allowing one run on three hits and one walk over seven innings while striking out nine.

Advice: Verlander got off to a great start, hurling 1-2-3 innings in three of the first four frames before surrendering a solo homer to Dominic Canzone in the fifth. The veteran right-hander would only allow a walk from that point on and managed to go seven innings for the third time in his last six starts. Verlander also matched his season high with nine strikeouts, which he had just recorded in his previous start against the Athletics. Rotowire.com Today, 7:12 am
  • Shut down with shoulder injury
The Athletics placed Muller on the 15-day injured list Thursday with left shoulder tendinitis.

Advice: Muller looked to be a potential candidate to fill the opening in the Oakland rotation Thursday in Tampa Bay, but his shoulder injury will end up thwarting those plans. The Athletics called up lefty Hogan Harris from Triple-A Las Vegas in a corresponding move, and he could factor into the team's pitching plans for Thursday's series finale.
