  • Chris Sale shuts down Guardians in notching win
    Chris Sale held the Guardians to one run and two hits in seven innings Friday in the Braves’ 6-2 victory.

    Advice: Sale gave up a leadoff homer to Steven Kwan in the first and pretty much nothing else. The other hit was a single, and he walked just one. He’s 3-1 with a 3.69 ERA in five starts, all of which have come on at least five days’ rest. Rotoworld 9 minutes ago

  • Logan Allen gives up four runs in loss to Braves
    Logan Allen surrendered four runs in 4 2/3 innings Friday in a loss to the Braves.

    Advice: It’s the third time in six starts that Allen has given up four runs, though this is the first time he’s taken a loss, leaving him 3-1 with a 5.46 ERA. It’s perfectly understandable to give up four runs to the Braves, but Allen’s stuff is definitely a little worse this year than it was as a rookie.   • Ramón Laureano goes 0-for-4 against Braves
    Ramón Laureano, who didn’t start any of the previous three games, went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in the loss to the Braves on Friday.

    Advice: If the Guardians knew how the outfield market was going to play out this winter, they probably would have non-tendered Laureano and taken their chances with someone else. As it was, they opted to keep him around for $5.15 million, and he’s since hit .160/.311/.220 while falling into a part-time role.     Gallen was removed from Friday's game against the Mariners with an apparent injury, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports.

    Advice: It's not immediately apparent what was bothering Gallen enough to call for his removal in the sixth inning, but the Diamondbacks should offer more information relatively soon. The 28-year-old right-hander was able to get through five frames Friday while surrendering two earned runs on three hits and a walk while striking out three batters. Rotowire.com 10 minutes ago
     
  • Zac Gallen exits start in sixth inning with injury
    Zac Gallen was removed from Friday night’s start against the Mariners in the sixth inning due to an apparent injury.

    Advice: It’s unclear exactly what occurred, but Gallen clearly didn’t feel right after delivering a pitch in the sixth inning, prompting a visit from the training staff and his eventual removal from the game. He had allowed two runs on three hits and a walk over his five-plus innings of work before departing.     Burnes did not factor into the decision Friday against Oakland, allowing one run on three hits and three walks over six innings. He struck out six.

    Advice: Burnes was solid Friday, holding the A's to a lone run on a Shea Langeliers homer in the first inning. He'd depart with a one-run lead, though Oakland would tie the game off Craig Kimbrel in the ninth before beating the Orioles in extras, leaving Burnes with a no-decision. It's the first quality start in three outings for the 29-year-old right-hander -- Burnes failed to make it through six innings in his previous two starts. Overall, he's 3-0 with a 2.55 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 35:8 K:BB through six starts (35.1 innings) this season. Burnes is currently lined up for a home matchup with the Yankees next week.   • Alex Burleson hits first homer in Cardinals’ win
    Alec Burleson’s first homer of the year was a three-run shot off José Buttó in the Cardinals’ 4-2 win over the Mets on Friday.

    Advice: The Cardinals could have sent down Burleson instead of Jordan Walker this week, and they still might later once they get Matt Carpenter back. It’d be better, though, if Burleson could start to produce and make himself a candidate to start regularly against righties in left field.   • Ryan Helsley needs nine pitches for eighth save
    Ryan Helsley struck out two in a perfect ninth for his eighth save Friday against the Mets.

    Advice: Helsley threw just nine pitches tonight. His velocity was down some this spring and during the first week of the regular season, but he’s been right around 100 mph with his fastball these last couple of weeks. Rotoworld 27 minutes ago
     
  • José Buttó gives up two homers in loss to Cards
    José Buttó took his first loss after giving up four runs in 5 2/3 innings Friday against the Cardinals.

    Advice: Buttó allowed just four hits, but two of them were long homers that accounted for all of the runs. The three-run homer from Alec Burleson in the second scored baserunners who had reached on a HBP and a walk. Control was the concern with Butto going in. There’s still a lot to like here, but that he’s walked 12 and hit three batters in 22 innings is rather discouraging. Rotoworld 28 minutes ago
