• Yankees outright Colby White to Double-A
Yankees sent RHP Colby White outright to Double-A Somerset.

Advice: White passed through waivers unclaimed after being designated for assignment earlier this week and will remain with New York as a project reliever. The 25-year-old has yet to ascend to the big leagues and was claimed off waivers earlier this month from Tampa Bay. Rotoworld Today, 1:41 pm

  • Jeff Hoffman locks down fourth save against Texas
Jeff Hoffman was able to throw a scoreless ninth to procure a save Thursday against the Rangers.

Advice: It’s the fourth save of the season for Hoffman. The 31-year-old has been outstanding in his relief role with the Phillies, as the scoreless frame lowers his ERA to 1.25. It’s never been a question about stuff with Hoffman, and he’s been able to apply his arsenal in the bullpen quite nicely. The only issue from a fantasy perspective is a lack of save chances. • Andrew Heaney allows nine hits, three earned
Andrew Heaney gave up four runs — three earned — over 3 2/3 innings in a loss to the Phillies on Thursday.

Advice: Heaney allowed nine hits in the contest, and he also allowed two walks with just one strikeout. The southpaw has not been able to complete four innings in his last two starts, and he’s seen his ERA increase to 4.69 over his 10 starts. Heaney would be in danger of losing his rotation spot if the Rangers rotation was remotely healthy, but it’s not, so he’ll remain a shaky fantasy option for the next few turns. • Joey Bart hits grand slam in loss to Giants
Joey Bart hit a grand slam Thursday in a loss to the Giants.

Advice: Bart was ejected late in this game, but before that dismissal, he did some damage against the team that drafted him with the second-overall pick in the 2017 MLB Draft. The backstop took Mason Black deep with the bases loaded to give Pittsburgh a 5-1 lead, but the Giants would end up coming back to win the contest. Bart also doubled, and appears to be having a breakout season with a .267/.362/.517 triple slash. Rotoworld Today, 12:44 pm

  • AJ Smith-Shawver promoted for start on Thursday
Braves recalled RHP AJ Smith-Shawver from Triple-A Gwinnett on Thursday.

Advice: This move was rumored yesterday and is now official. With Bryce Elder disappointing in his five starts, the 21-year-old Smith-Shawver will get a chance to stake his claim to a spot in the rotation. Daysbel Hernández was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett in a corresponding move. Smith-Shawver has improved his velocity and overall stuff+ grades this year in the minors, but his command has been an issue, leading to a decent amount of hard contact. In May, he has a 5.40 ERA and 1.47 WHIP with 19 strikeouts and nine walks in 18 1/3 innings. The potential is clearly there, but he needs to show more consistency before we feel confident about his ability to stick in the rotation this year. Rotoworld Today, 8:38 am
  • Recalled ahead of Thursday's start
Atlanta recalled Smith-Shawver from Triple-A Gwinnett on Thursday.

Advice: Manager Brian Snitker previously confirmed after Wednesday's 9-2 win that Smith-Shawver would start Thursday's game against the Cubs at Wrigley Field. The young right-hander holds a 6.10 ERA and 1.52 WHIP this season with Gwinnett and has posted a 7.43 ERA and allowed six home runs over his last three starts. Given those results, fantasy managers would be wise to take a wait-and-see approach with Smith-Shawver, but the 21-year-old should have an opportunity to make additional starts for Atlanta if he pitches well Thursday. • Drawing start Thursday
Cubs manager Craig Counsell said that Brown will start Thursday's game against Atlanta at Wrigley Field, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Brown will pick up his fifth start of the season, filling the spot in the rotation that belonged to Kyle Hendricks before the veteran right-hander was moved to the bullpen earlier this week. Because he hasn't started since May 2 and will be pitching on three days' rest after covering two frames in relief Sunday, Brown may not be asked to give the Cubs more than three or four innings as he re-enters the rotation. Hendricks hasn't been used since his last start Friday and could be called upon to piggyback Brown, but Counsell hasn't outlined his plans for when Brown exits the contest. Brown may not be in line for a lengthy stay in the rotation, as the Cubs could get Jordan Wicks (forearm) back from the injured list next week to take over as their No. 5 starter. • Starting Thursday
Smith-Shawver will be recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett to start Thursday's game against the Cubs, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Advice: Smith-Shawver will be making his first big-league start of 2024 on Thursday after logging a 6.10 ERA and 1.52 WHIP through 31 innings across eight starts in Triple-A. He appeared in six games for Atlanta last season with mixed results, though he could find some success against a Cubs offense that ranks 10th in the National League with a .683 OPS. • AJ Smith-Shawver to start for Braves Thursday
AJ Smith-Shawver will start for the Braves on Thursday in their series finale against the Cubs at Wrigley Field.

Advice: The 21-year-old hurler made six appearances (five starts) for the Braves during the 2023 campaign, posting a 4.26 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and a 20/11 K/BB ratio across 25 1/3 innings of work. He makes for a decent streaming option on Thursday’s slate, especially with the mighty Braves’ offense backing him. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:15 pm
