• Homers, drives in two
Varsho went 1-for-5 with a home run and two RBI Monday against the Orioles.

Advice: Varsho's seventh-inning home run tied the game and opened the door for his 10th-inning RBI ground out that provided the winning run for the Blue Jays. Prior to Monday's blast, Varsho had not homered since April 22, hitting just .173 with four RBI over 52 at-bats during that 15 game stretch. Rotowire.com 12 minutes ago

  • Otto Lopez smacks two-run homer in Marlins’ loss
Otto Lopez belted a two-run homer on Monday in the Marlins’ loss to the Tigers.

Advice: Lopez put the Marlins ahead briefly with an eighth-inning blast off Tigers reliever Alex Faedo with two outs in the frame. It was his third long ball in just 17 games since being called up last month from Triple-A Jacksonville. The 25-year-old should continue getting a shot to prove himself with Miami and is off to a nice start, batting .313/.371/.656 with three homers and one steal in 35 plate appearances. • Matt Manning allows three runs in no-decision
Matt Manning gave up three runs over 5 2/3 innings on Monday in a no-decision against the Marlins.

Advice: Manning was tagged for nine hits, but none of them wound up leaving the yard. He finished with five strikeouts and only issued one walk. The 26-year-old righty has absolutely held his own in four starts this season at the highest level, but he’ll likely only get one additional turn in Detroit’s starting rotation on Sunday against the Diamondbacks until veteran Kenta Maeda (illness) is ready to return. • Sixto Sánchez tosses 4 2/3 frames in no-decision
Sixto Sánchez was charged with three runs (zero earned) over 4 2/3 innings on Monday in a no-decision against the Tigers.

Advice: Sánchez struck out two and also issued a pair of walks in his longest outing since joining Miami’s starting rotation back on April 24. The 25-year-old former top prospect simply doesn’t offer enough strikeout upside to merit consideration for a roster spot in fantasy formats. He’ll bring an inflated 5.96 ERA, 1.63 WHIP and 13/9 K/BB ratio across 22 2/3 innings (11 appearances, four starts) into a home outing against the Mets on Sunday. Rotoworld 24 minutes ago

  • Demoted to Triple-A
Black was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento on Monday, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Advice: Black will head down to the minors after making his second start of the season Saturday against the Reds. He fared well, allowing one run on four hits and two walks while striking out two over 4.1 frames. Nick Avila was recalled in a corresponding move. Rotowire.com 49 minutes ago

  • Promoted to big leagues
Avila was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento on Monday, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Advice: Avila will be available out of the bullpen for Monday's game against the Dodgers. He hasn't been able to settle in so far this season with the big-league club, surrendering at least one run in five of his six relief appearances. Rotowire.com 54 minutes ago
  • Lacks control in second rehab start
Baz (elbow/oblique) worked 1.2 innings and struck out one while allowing three earned runs on one hit and five walks Friday in his second rehab start with Triple-A Durham.

Advice: Perhaps unsurprisingly, Baz's control has been spotty in his first two rehab starts in his first game action since July 2022 following a prolonged recovery from Tommy John surgery and two minor setbacks with his oblique. After working three innings and spotting 22 of his 39 pitches for strikes in his start with Durham on May 4, Baz found the strike zone on just 29 of his 59 pitches Friday and also hit a batter in addition to issuing five free passes. The fact that Baz was able to increase his pitch count was a positive takeaway, but he'll still need to improve his efficiency as he continues his buildup process in the minors. Baz will presumably need at least two more rehab starts before he returns from the 15-day injured list and makes his 2024 debut with the Rays. Rotowire.com Today, 5:44 pm

  • Out indefinitely with wrist sprain
Meckler has resided on Triple-A Sacramento's 7-day injured list all season with a sprained wrist and is likely weeks away from a return to game action, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Meckler sustained the injury at some point during the Cactus League before the Giants optioned him to minor-league camp March 13. He hasn't been able to swing the bat much since being shut down, and because his absence has now hit the two-month mark, Meckler will presumably need to go through his own version of spring training all over again before being ready to take on an everyday role in the Sacramento outfield. • Rhys Hoskins exits game with leg injury
Rhys Hoskins left Monday’s game in the second inning with an apparent leg injury.

Advice: Hoskins was hurt running to first base on a single. He was able to walk off the field without much trouble, so hopefully that’s a good sign. Hoskins missed all of last year with a torn ACL in his left knee. Rotoworld Today, 5:23 pm
