      Irvin (6-4) took the loss against the Guardians on Tuesday, allowing eight runs (four earned) on 10 hits with no walks and one strikeout over four innings.

      Advice: Irvin allowed three runs in the first two innings and then five runs in a disastrous fifth frame that included a three-run home run by Jose Ramirez. An error in the fifth resulted in four of the runs being unearned, but the lefty allowed 10 hard-hit balls and only generated five swinging strikes in his second consecutive rough outing. Irvin has yielded 13 runs (nine earned) in those two outings and now owns a 3.74 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 74:15 K:BB in 77 innings this season.       Cole Irvin was lit up for eight runs (four earned) over four innings on Tuesday in a loss to the Guardians.

    • Blows second save
      Munoz was charged with a blown save Monday against Tampa Bay, allowing one hit and one walk with one strikeout in one-third of an inning.

      Advice: Munoz entered the game in the bottom of the eighth inning with two outs and runners on second and third. He walked Jose Caballero before allowing a two-run single to Yandy Diaz, giving the Rays a 4-3 lead. While Munoz blew the save, it is encouraging that he was called upon for the high-leverage situation over fellow closer Ryne Stanek, who pitched a scoreless seventh inning. The Mariners closer situation should still be considered a committee moving forward, with Munoz offering the most upside. Despite blowing the save, the 25-year-old has been dominant this season, compiling a 1.41 ERA, a 1.00 WHIP and a 43:11 K:BB over 32 innings, converting 13-of-15 save opportunities with six holds.       Lively (7-3) allowed two runs on three hits and two walks while striking out four over 5.2 innings to earn the win over the Blue Jays on Saturday.

      Advice: Lively bounced back from his shortest start of the year by getting back into the win column. He hasn't struck out more than five batters in any of his last five outings, but he's generally been good at limiting damage, as he's given up two or fewer runs in nine of his 12 starts. The right-hander is at a 3.03 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 56:20 K:BB through 65.1 innings this season, though he's also been tagged for 10 home runs, including two in Saturday's start.       Ben Lively allowed two runs in 5 2/3 innings and got the win in the Guardians’ 6-3 victory over the Blue Jays on Saturday.



      Advice: Lively gave up three hits, walked two and struck out four. He’s now won five of his last seven starts and has seven wins overall on the season. His ERA is 3.03. Not bad for a waiver wire pickup. The 32-year-old right-hander is set to face the Royals on the road next weekend.

      Irvin did not factor into the decision in a win over the Yankees on Thursday, allowing five runs on five hits and two walks over 4.2 innings while striking out two.

      Advice: Irvin had a hard time with the Yankees' lineup for much of the afternoon, allowing runs in three of the five innings in which he appeared before being relieved by Bryan Baker. Irvin surrendered two home runs in the contest, something he hadn't done in any of his previous 13 outings, while he also matched his season high with five runs allowed. Irvin had gone at least five innings in four consecutive starts prior to Thursday's game and will look to bounce back next week when the Orioles take on the Guardians in Baltimore.       Advice: The Mariners turned to Munoz after Trent Thornton loaded the bases in the eighth. Munoz would proceed to coax a pair of groundouts to get out of the inning before turning in a scoreless ninth, earning his 13th save of the campaign and his third of four or more outs.       Andrés Muñoz pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings to lock down the Mariners’ 8-5 win over the Guardians on Tuesday.

      Advice: The Mariners brought Muñoz in with the bases loaded with one out in the eighth inning and the Mariners up by four runs. He got a groundout which allowed one run to score but then induced another groundout to end the threat. The 25-year-old has battled through back injuries all season but still has a 1.47 ERA and now has 13 saves. The biggest threat to his value appears to simply be that the Mariners have no problem bringing him in before the ninth inning which will sometimes prevent him from earning saves.
