  • Duda homers, drives in two against Padres
Lucas Duda went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in Thursday's loss to the Padres.

Advice: Duda was the only Mets hitter capable of doing much of anything against rookie starter Dinelson Lamet and company, homering off the right-hander in the second inning and adding an RBI single in the eighth. The home run was his fifth of the season. Overall, the first baseman is hitting .244/.392/.500 in 25 games. Rotoworld.com 42 minutes ago

  • Tigers to call up C/OF John Hicks on Friday
John Wagner of the Toledo Blade reports John Hicks will be called up from Triple-A Toledo for Friday's doubleheader against the White Sox.

Advice: Teams are allowed to carry an extra player for doubleheaders but the Tigers are already bringing up Buck Farmer to start Game 1. That means a roster move must be coming. James McCann left Thursday night's game with a hand laceration and could be headed to the disabled list. This will be Hicks' third stint with the Tigers this year. Rotoworld.com Today, 7:00 pm

  • Tommy Joseph leads Phillies to win
Tommy Joseph had a homer in the seventh and a walkoff single in the 11th to give the Phillies a 2-1 victory over the Rockies on Thursday.

Advice: Aaron Altherr has been the Phillies' best hitter this year, but Joseph has been the best his month; he's hitting .329 with six homer in May. It makes one wonder why he was hitting sixth today behind three hitters with OPSs in the .600s. Rotoworld.com Today, 2:18 pm

  • Travis Shaw sitting Thursday against D'Backs
Travis Shaw is not in the Brewers' lineup Thursday against the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Eric Thames is the only lefty starting against D'Backs southpaw Robbie Ray. Hernan Perez will handle the hot corner and bat cleanup on Thursday night. Shaw has gotten off to an impressive start this year (.282, 9 HR, 34 RBI) but has struck out in eight of his last 11 at-bats. Daily Slant: The Brewers are going almost completely right-handed against Robbie Ray, with Eric Thames being the lone lefty in the lineup. Ray has been absolutely dominant on the road this season, as he's allowed just three earned runs in 26.1 IP with 34 Ks, good for a 32.4 K%. Against only RHs on the road, Ray has been surprisingly effective, holding strong numbers across the board (29.1 K%, 2.85 FIP, 0.42 HR/9). With Jacob deGrom scratched, Ray is arguably the top arm on the board. Rotoworld.com Today, 2:15 pm

  • Mark Reynolds goes hitless against Phillies
Mark Reynolds, who was out of the lineup the last two games, went 0-for-4 before being removed from Thursday's game against the Phillies.

Advice: No injuries were reported for Reynolds, but the Rockies used Gerardo Parra over him in back-to-back games before returning him to the lineup today. Reynolds is without an extra-base hit in his last 10 games, though he's still driven in eight runs with nine hits during that span. His OPS, which was as high as 1.092 on May 10, is down to .948 now. • Luis Valbuena goes 0-for-4 in loss
Luis Valbuena went 0-for-4 in the loss to the Rays on Thursday, dropping his average to .167.

Advice: Valbuena did just fine in his first 10 games back from the disabled list, but he's 2-for-35 with no extra-base hits since. The Angels also aren't getting anything from Jefry Marte, so perhaps C.J. Cron will rejoin the team soon. Rotoworld.com Today, 1:31 pm
  • Bruce (back) returns to Mets' lineup Thurs.
Jay Bruce (back) is in the Mets' starting lineup on Thursday night against the Padres.

Advice: Bruce sat out Wednesday after making an early exit Tuesday with stiffness in his back. It clearly wasn't anything serious. The veteran outfielder is hitting .250/.331/.513 with 11 home runs and 30 RBI in 41 games this season. Rotoworld.com Today, 12:58 pm

  • Hoskins keeps hitting
Phillies prospect Rhys Hoskins went 3-for-3 with a homer on Wednesday for Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Advice: One of those hits was a homer -- his 13th of the season -- and Hoskins also doubled and scored four runs. Not a bad afternoon. He's been one of the best performers in minor-league baseball, and with the Phillies way out of contention, you have to think they'll give him a chance to play sooner or later. It should be sooner. • Jedd Gyorko goes 3-for-4 in win
Jedd Gyorko finished 3-for-4 with a walk and two runs scored Wednesday against the Dodgers.

Advice: Gyorko's surprising 30-homer season last year came with just a .243 average. This year, though, he's at .331 over 136 at-bats. There's no way he keeps that up, but he probably will make another run at 30 homers now that he's a regular. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 10:09 pm

Carlos Santana went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in Wednesday's loss to the Reds.

Advice: He hit a two-run dinger off starter Lisalverto Bonilla in the third inning, then ripped an RBI double in the fifth. As usual for the veteran, Santana sports a low batting average but is solid in all the other measurements. He is slashing .230/.332/.410 with five homers, 25 runs scored and 26 RBI. • Pujols muscles two-run homer vs Rays
Albert Pujols whacked a two-run bomb in a loss to the Rays on Wednesday.

Advice: He hit the home run off Erasmo Ramirez with Mike Trout aboard in the first inning. It was his only hit on the night but he did chip in with a walk as well. Pujols owns a .244 batting average with six home runs and 34 RBI. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 7:36 pm
  • Jose Abreu homers, doubles, drives in three
Jose Abreu went 4-for-5 with a two-run home run and three total RBI in Wednesday's 8-6 loss to the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Abreu fell a triple short of the cycle in this monster showing. He drove in his runs with a no-doubt two-run homer to right which traveled an estimated 441 feet in the sixth inning and an RBI single in the seventh. Through 44 games played, the slugger is working to a .291/.347/.531 triple-slash with 10 homers and 27 RBI. Five of those 10 home runs have come in his last 10 games. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 3:57 pm

Albert Pujols (hamstring) is not in the Angels' lineup Friday.

  • Mark Reynolds not starting second game of DH
Mark Reynolds is not in the Rockies' lineup Thursday for the second game of their doubleheader against the Twins.

Advice: Reynolds served as the DH in the first game of the double dip, going 1-for-2 with a single and two walks in the Rockies' 5-1 victory. Carlos Gonzalez will DH the nightcap with Ian Desmond manning first base. Reynolds sports a masterful .319 average with 12 homers and a team-leading 35 RBI this year. Rotoworld.com Thursday, 3:51 pm

Kennys Vargas went 0-for-4 in the first game of Thursday's doubleheader and is 5-for-37 with 13 strikeouts and no walks in his last 10 games.

Advice: Robbie Grossman and Vargas both got off to fast starts, but neither has contributed in the DH spot of late. It would seem to open the door for ByungHo Park if he can get hot in Triple-A. Rotoworld.com Thursday, 1:14 pm

Rays placed 2B Brad Miller on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to May 16, with a lower abdominal strain.

  • Ryan Healy rocks home run No. 7 in victory
Ryon Healy went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's win over the Mariners.

Advice: Healy connected on a Chase De Jong pitch for a no-doubt two-run shot in the second inning, one which traveled an estimated 443 feet. It was his seventh home run of the campaign. Three of those seven home runs have come in his last 10 games. Not all was golden in this one, though, as Healy committed a costly error in the seventh inning, one which opened the door for the Mariners to tie matters up at 4-4. A five-run ninth inning by the A's would ultimately make that error something of a moot point. Rotoworld.com Tuesday, 10:49 pm

Advice: Rizzo hadn't homered since April 29 or had a multihit game since April 27. His batting average, which peaked at .299 on April 22, was at .213 coming into this one tonight. Still, the numbers should be there in the end. Rotoworld.com Tuesday, 8:59 pm
