      Advice: Toglia was hitless in his first three at-bats but saved his stat line in the ninth inning by taking Josh Hader yard on a solo homer. The first baseman has homered on back-to-back nights and has belted four long balls in his last 10 games, batting 10-for-39 (.256) with nine runs and nine RBI during that stretch.       Advice: Alvarez was excellent in his first career start, clubbing a double in his first at-bat before being driven in by JJ Bleday and then plating Shea Langeliers on an infield single in the eighth. The 29-year-old had his contract selected Saturday, marking his first big league stint since entering the minors in 2016.       Advice: At age 29, Alvarez is no long-term regular for the A’s, but he might well prove to be an upgrade over Abraham Toro at third base.       Brett Wisely went 2-for-4 with a run scored from the leadoff spot in the Giants’ 5-1 defeat of the Cubs on Tuesday.

      Advice: Wisely’s second hit, a 403-foot double to left-center, would have been a homer in 29 of 30 ballparks and really a no-doubter in most of them. Oracle Park isn’t built that way, though.       France went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI in Tuesday's 11-3 loss to the Rays.

      Advice: France singled in the third inning and hit a 427-foot two-run home run in the fifth. He had been mired in a 1-for-20 slump since returning from the IL with a heel injury June 18, and the homer was his first since May 31.       Advice: Palacios doubled and scored in the second inning and then walked and scored in the sixth. Palacios has tallied three multi-hit efforts and two steals in his past four games and is now hitting .249 with four home runs, 16 RBI and 12 stolen bases over 197 at-bats in 2024.       Yankees manager Aaron Boone said after Tuesday’s game that Gleyber Torres’s failure to run hard to first base in the eighth was a product of his groin issue.
